Early lead fails to nail a win for Kerry FC V UCD!

Kerry FC welcomed UCD AFC to Mounthawk Park for the first time on Friday evening in scorching temperatures reaching twenty-three degrees. Kerry FC entered the match on a four-game losing streak, with their latest defeat being a 2-1 loss to Longford Town. Key players Sean O’Connell, Ryan Kelliher, Steven Healy, Daniel Okwute, and Kennedy Amechi returned to the lineup. UCD, second in the league, came

off a 2-1 defeat to Cobh Ramblers, ending their ten-game unbeaten streak. The game began with UCD dominating possession, but Kerry took the lead through Sean McGrath, who scored from a Steven Healy pass. However, UCD quickly responded with a stunning 30-yard strike from Micheal McCullagh. McCullagh struck again to put UCD ahead, scoring off a cross from Luke O’Regan.

Zyber Theatre present “The Game” by John Fraher at Siamsa Tire

on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 22nd,23rd and 24th of May. “The Game” is an emotional drama set within the confines of a dysfunctional family and their associates where life becomes a game, a reason to go on.

The cast includes regulars Mags Slattery, Rory O Mahony and George Lowe and this production sees Sorcha Uí Shúilleabháin and Eoghain Sheehy join Zyber for the first time. “The Game “is suitable for over 18s . Curtain is at 8.00 p.m. sharp. Admission €21/€19 / Booking at 066 7123055...

In the second half, Kerry made several changes, including replacing Kennedy Amechi with Nathan Gleeson due to injury. Sean McGrath had a goal disallowed for a foul, a decision some considered soft. Kerry put up a stronger fight in the second half, with McGrath narrowly missing a long-range shot. Several players received yellow cards, including Daniel Okwute, who missed a couple of chances to equalize.

In added time, UCD’s Harry Curtis was shown a straight red card for a confrontation, but Kerry couldn’t capitalize on the advantage. The match ended 2-1 in favor of UCD, marking Kerry’s fifth consecutive loss. Kerry FC will next face Wexford FC at Ferrycarrig Park.

‘Picture This and Imagine That’ Exhibition now on at Siamsa

’An exhibition titled ‘Picture This and Imagine That: The Voyages of St. Brendan the Navigator’ is now on display at Siamsa Tíre, Tralee, Co. Kerry until May 31, 2024, as part of the St. Brendan The Navigator Festival. It features two distinct artists: Daniel De’Angeli and Nora Donnelly, showcasing watercolor paintings and an art installation of sound and projection, respectively. De’Angeli’s watercolors, inspired by St. Brendan’s Navigatio, were last exhibited over 20 years ago. They evoke simplicity and harmony, reflecting the artist’s deep connection to the Navigator’s

journey. Donnelly, moved by De’Angeli’s work, intertwines sound with imagery to create an immersive experience, capturing the essence of the sea, monastic chants, and contemporary life.

Both artists aim to deepen the viewer’s understanding of St. Brendan through visual and interactive means. Donnelly’s installation, particularly, immerses spectators in the voyage, evoking Brendan’s emotions amid stormy seas and calm doldrums.

Supported by Garveys and Muckross House Trustees, the exhibition is open to the public free

GOOD NEWS ONLY!

Based in Kerry

Keith Malee, Sales Manager with Green Energy Ireland, answers some of the most common questions asked about installing a Solar Energy System

Q; How long do solar panels last?

Q: How many solar panels do I need?

Keith says: "The amount of energy that a homeowner wants to generate will generally determine the number of solar panels needed. There are a number of factors to be considered, such as historic usage, future expectation and available space, to name just three. Ultimately, the easiest and best way to determine how many solar panels you will need, is to consult a professional installer. Experts can help you assess your energy usage, the size of your home, and other factors, to determine the best solar system size for for your needs and your budget."

Keith says: "As with virtually all hardware there is going to be some degradation over time, however the efficiency of a solar panel actually only degrades by about 0.5% per year. What that means, is that even after 20 years the panels still output 80% of their rated power, and they will continue to provide electricity efficiently and effectively for many years. On average, solar panels can last anywhere from 25 to 35 years, the key is to ensure that your installer is using a high end, high quality panel, as some cheaper panels may not be

Q: Do I need to install a battery?

Keith says: "In terms of frequently asked questions, this is definitely one of the big ones that we hear every day. And the answer is no, you don't specifically "need" a battery, your Solar PV system will work perfectly effectively without a battery storage system. Solar battery storage allows you to store excess energy generated by your solar panels during the day and use it during times when your panels aren’t producing enough electricity, such as at night, which is a really great idea. But there are a lot of things to be considered before making the decision to install one eg. cost versus benefit (the cost can be significant) and household energy usage patterns to name just two. The best thing to do before making the decision to include a battery in your Solar PV installation is to speak with an expert. Everybody's requirements are different and discussing them with a professional will best position you to make the most informed and educated decision.

Want to see your energy bills going down and your energy savings going up? Make the switch to solar power this summer and make the most of the sunshine!

Now has never been a better time to switch with SEAI grants to help with the costs AND for a limited time only Green Energy Ireland are also offering a 10 Panel Solar PV System installation from €4,950*!

As a parent I love that they are safe, well cared for and are actually looking forward to spending time doing physical activity and away from technology”.

New Nazareth Home sculpture honours children’s voices of the past

Saturday last, May 11th, was one of the most poignant days in the life of Tralee woman Miriam Moriarty Owens, as a very special memorial was unveiled - 25 years to the day after the Irish State’s apology. Up to one hundred people attended the event to mark the anniversary on the grounds of Nazareth Home in Tralee, formerly known as the Pembroke Alms Industrial School. On May 11th 1999, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern stood on the steps of Dáil Éireann and offered a heartfelt apology on behalf of the State and Church for the unimaginable cruelty inflicted upon children in Industrial and Reformatory Schools across Ireland. On Saturday Education Minister and Tralee woman, Minister Norma Foley, spoke at the event before unveiling the sculpture in front of all gathered. credit Michelle Breen Crean Photography &Miriam Moriarty Owens
