After sixteen years serving passengers from Manor West Rathass, the Kerry Cancer Support Group has announced that its Tralee Healthlink Cork route bus stop will relocate from McDonald’s to Lidl on Castlemaine Road from Tuesday, June 2. The Healthlink transport service has been a vital support for thousands of people across Kerry, West Cork and West Limerick attending cancer-related and other essential medical appointments in Kerry, Cork and Limerick since the service began in 2010.
The decision to move the stop followed consultations with passengers, drivers and management, with increasing traffic levels and safety concerns at Manor West Rathass identified as key factors. Service Manager Breda Dyland said the service has evolved significantly over the years.
“Our service has grown enormously since its foundation in 2010 and so have our buses. We have gone from operating a small mini-bus to a 33-seat midi-coach. Manor West Rathass has become much busier over the years and, following discussions with service users

and our driver, we monitored the situation for several months. While mornings were generally manageable, afternoons became extremely busy when returning, so for everyone’s safety we decided it was the right time to relocate the stop,” she said.
Ms Dyland said the new Lidl
location on Castlemaine Road offers additional space and easier access for buses travelling out of town. She also thanked businesses and the wider Manor West Rathass community for their support over the past sixteen years.
Established in 2007, Kerry Cancer Support Group continues to
provide transport, information and support services to families across the region. Its welcoming centre on Maine Street in Tralee remains available to anyone seeking support or information. Further details are available on 066-7195560.
Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley will host an Informal Meeting of EU Ministers in Tralee this November as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The event will bring together Ministers responsible for Equality and Disability from across Europe, alongside representatives from the European Commission, EU agencies and civil society organisations.
The meeting will take place at Munster Technological University Kerry campus in Tralee and marks the first time in 22 years that an Irish EU Presidency event of this scale will be hosted in Co. Kerry.
Discussions during the gathering will focus on equality of opportunity for women and girls, as well as advancing the rights of people
with disabilities. The location also highlights MTU Kerry’s growing international reputation through its UNESCO Chair on Transforming the Lives of Persons with Disabilities.
A wider programme of events and visits around Kerry is also planned for Ministers and their delegations during their stay in the county.
Minister Foley said she was delighted to welcome European counterparts to Tralee for what she described as an important opportunity to shape a fairer Europe.
“We are in a time of enormous change and Europe is a key part of our future,” she said. “We will have important conversations on delivering real progress for women and girls, advancing disability rights and ensuring everyone can participate fully in society.”

The November meeting is expected to place Tralee and Kerry firmly in the European spotlight during Ireland’s EU Presidency.

Kerry FC officially unveiled its new state-of-the-art facilities at Mounthawk Park on Friday night in what marked another significant milestone for football development in Kerry.
The celebrations were made even sweeter as the Kingdom secured a dramatic home victory over Wexford on the newly installed Astro Turf surface.
Supported through Government grant funding, Kerry FC and the Kerry District League completed major upgrades at the famous north Tralee venue, including a brand-new all-weather pitch, modern LED floodlights and a new on-site gym facility. The gym is now used by all seven Kerry FC teams competing across League of Ireland competitions.
Guests attending the official ribbon-cutting ceremony included FAI President Paul Cooke, Minister for Sport Patrick O’Donovan, FAI
Director Caroline Rhatigan, League of Ireland Director Mark Scanlon, Munster FA Chairman Leslie Doyle and Michael Healy Rae TD, along with club officials, volunteers and supporters.
Minister O’Donovan praised the project and acknowledged the huge volunteer effort involved in delivering the development.
“Government support was important, but projects like this only happen because of volunteers, committees and local people willing to put in the work,” he said. “Kerry now has a League of Ireland facility that any club in the country could be proud of.”
FAI President Paul Cooke described the venue as “a great facility” and welcomed investment in sporting infrastructure that benefits players of all genders and abilities.

All classes in Scoil Eoin were asked to gather in the Sports Hall this morning for the announcement of the 2026 School Spirit Award Winner.
The Scoil Eoin School Spirit Award was devised by principal Mr. O’Toole along with the Student Council in 2016. This award is not academic award, rather an award in recognition of a pupil who promotes inclusiveness and fairness, is a good role model and displays exemplary behaviour. Each teacher nominates a pupil from their class. The nominations are read out by Mrs. O’Donoghue at a Student Council meeting. The identity of the nominees is anonymous in the interest of fairness. All nominees were presented with a medal in recognition of their nomination by Mr. O’Toole. Our 2026 winner was chosen by a unanimous vote!
Brógan Griffin from Mrs. Kennedy’s 3rd class was nominated because of her sense of fairness in how she interacts with her peers, always encouraging kindness, honesty and respect. Brógan approaches school life with positivity, responsibility and enthusiasm. She was shocked when Mr. O’Toole called out her name and presented her with the trophy. Brógan’s family were hidden away and came into the hall once the announcement was made. Her sister Charleigh who is in Senior Infants
academy structure now includes teams from Under-14 level right through to the Women’s Under-23 development squad.

Kia has received a major boost with the all-new fully electric Kia PV5 Passenger earning a five-star review from What Car? With reviewers praising its huge interior space, practicality and value for money. The PV5 marks Kia’s entry into the growing Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) market and is designed primarily as a spacious electric people carrier rather than a traditional SUV. While its boxy van-like shape may divide opinion, What Car? says the design allows for exceptional interior space and practicality, making it a strong option for larger Irish families, taxi operators and businesses. The PV5 Passenger arrives as a significantly more affordable rival to the Volkswagen ID Buzz, while still offering impressive electric range, modern technology and a vast luggage area. Initially launching as a five-seater, a seven-seat version is expected later in 2026. Irish buyers will be offered two battery options, including a Long Range version capable of up to 412km of WLTP driving range, which should comfortably suit most Irish driving needs. Reviewers praised the PV5’s comfortable ride, light steering and ease of driving despite its size. The spacious cabin, flat floor and huge boot were also highlighted as standout features, alongside Kia’s strong reputation for reliability and its excellent seven-year warranty. Fast charging of up to 150kW allows the PV5 to charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. While it may not have the performance of a Tesla Model Y or the style of the ID Buzz, What Car? described the PV5 as one of the most practical and best-value electric family vehicles currently entering the market.

Minister for Children, Disability, Equality and Kerry TD Norma Foley has confirmed that over €495,000 in funding has been allocated for marine infrastructure projects across Kerry, including significant investment in Fenit Pier.
The funding, announced under the Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme, will support five projects throughout the county, with Fenit Pier receiving €187,500 towards structural repair works. The overall Fenit project has a total value of €250,000.

In addition to Fenit Pier, projects are also being supported at Kilmakilloge Pier, Knightstown Breakwater, Brandon Pier and Portmagee. The total value of the Kerry projects is over €866,000, with Kerry County Council providing the remaining balance of funding required. A few weeks ago, I wrote about handing over a treasured collection of old VHS tapes to legendary Tralee wedding photographer and videographer Dan Devane on Rock Street, hoping he could somehow rescue years of forgotten family memories.
Well, the call finally came. Dan told me the digital transfer process was complete, and it was time to collect the files. Walking into his studio again was like stepping into a museum of photography and recording history, with shelves of analogue and digital equipment gathered over decades in business. Dan handed me a small white box
containing a green USB stick. On that tiny device were decades of family moments we thought might be lost forever.
He explained the painstaking process involved before any transfer even begins, including carefully cleaning the old tapes, checking for damage and removing any mould that may have built up over the years.
Later that evening at home, we plugged the USB into the television — and suddenly the past came alive. There were our children’s christenings, birthday parties in Jungle Jims, first family holidays in the sun and even footage from

our engagement back in 1992. We watched friends and relatives, many no longer with us, laughing and smiling on screen once again. Seeing young children — now adults themselves — brought an emotional reaction none of us expected. It truly was magical.
Fair play to Dan Devane for providing such a valuable service. Many families across Kerry probably have similar tapes hidden away in presses and attics. My advice is simple — go looking for them. Those memories are priceless. Dan can be contacted at his Rock Street studio or on 087-2681378.

Castlegregory native Shane
Donnellan has been elected to Fianna Fáil’s Ard Chomhairle (National Executive) following voting at the party’s Ard Fheis in Dublin last weekend.
The 24-year-old school teacher secured election after a closely contested vote at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre on May 16th, exactly 100 years after the founding of Fianna Fáil in 1926.
Donnellan, who has served as Cathaoirleach of Kerry Ógra Fianna Fáil since 2024, was one of 14 candidates contesting seats on the male panel. He said he hopes to use his new role to advocate for young people, the Irish language and a united Ireland.
A long-time member of Ógra Fianna Fáil, the party’s youth wing, Shane was one of four young candidates elected nationally.
Speaking after the result, Ógra Fianna Fáil President and Kerry native John Crowley described the outcome as “a huge victory for the participation of young people in Irish politics” and said it highlighted the party’s commitment to amplifying young voices.

Ireland BikeFest 2026 will celebrate a major milestone this year as organisers mark 20 years since the European H.O.G.™ Rally first brought thousands of Harley-Davidson riders to Killarney in 2006.
That landmark event sparked what would become one of Europe’s bestloved motorcycle festivals, creating a lasting connection between Killarney and the international biking community.
Ireland BikeFest 2026 takes place from May 29th to 31st and will honour the atmosphere, friendships and sense of community that have defined the festival over the past two decades.
Chairman Patrick O’Donoghue said the original rally left a lasting impression on the town.
“Twenty years ago, Killarney fell head-over-wheels in love with the
biking community,” he said. “There was something electric about that first rally in 2006. The sound, the atmosphere and the camaraderie created something very special, and Ireland BikeFest grew from that connection.”
Since launching in 2007, the festival has become Ireland’s largest free open motorcycle and music festival, attracting visitors from across Ireland, the UK, Europe and beyond. The event combines spectacular riding routes along the Wild Atlantic Way with live music, custom bike displays, ride-outs and entertainment throughout Killarney over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked for many favours, this time I ask you this special one (mention favour). Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Father sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. B.S.
