St Johns Theatre in Listowel will play host to this event “Galway to Fiji, The music of Fr. Kelly” on Friday May 15th Growing up in East Galway, an area renowned for its unique style of traditional music, Máirín from Ballinakill and Patsy from Kilreekil have been playing music together since childhood. They were influenced by the music of Máirín’s aunt Aggie Whyte, her mam Bridie Whyte (Fahy), Eddie Moloney, the Broderick family and the many wonderful musicians of the surrounding area.Máirín and Patsy, as aspiring musicians, spent many Sunday afternoons in Aggie’s house listening to Fr. P.J. Kelly, a Columban missionary who on his return from a Mission term would join in the musical gatherings with local musicians in Cappycun, composing and playing many of his own charming melodious tunes.Whilst
living in Dublin, Máirín and Patsy joined in the vibrant traditional music session scene and were members of the all-female group ‘Macalla’. Máirín and Patsy were delighted to get back to their roots in East Galway, recording the wonderful compositions of Fr. P.J. Kelly which is a fitting tribute to a unique and very talented composer. His compositions have a sweet melodic charm and phrasing that is synonymous with East Galway. Patsy and Máirín will be joined in Listowel on May 15th by Harpist Eimear Coughlan and Concertina player Francis Cunningham , two of the finest components of the Clare musical tradition as well as Yvonne Fahy on percussion ,Bookings can be made on the website stjohnstheatre.ie / Ph; 06822566. A striking new art installation has been unveiled at the Island of Geese in Tralee, paying tribute to the area’s rich heritage and its important role in the town’s commercial and social history.
Titled Flight & Industry, the largescale laser-cut steel artwork by sculptor Graham Reid has been installed on the exterior wall of the amphitheatre, beside the iconic chimney of the former bacon factory. The piece reflects both the site’s historic significance and its transformation into a modern cultural and community space. The Island of Geese, or Oileán na

nGéanna, was once a thriving hub of trade and industry, particularly known as Tralee’s pork butchers’ quarter. Historical records, including an 1878 Ordnance Survey map, identify the area as a “pork shambles,” highlighting a long-standing tradition of meat production that predated Slattery’s Bacon Factory, established in 1922. The factory later became part of the Denny Company and then Kerry Group, which gifted the site to the people of Tralee in 2014, paving the way for its regeneration.
Reid’s artwork draws inspiration from this layered history, incorporating themes of industry, community and renewal. It also references the site’s unique name and identity, celebrating continuity, resilience and vibrancy.

Kerry TD and Minister for Children, Disability, Equality Norma Foley has welcomed the allocation of two additional Gardaí to Tralee, describing it as a further strengthening of policing resources in the county.
The announcement follows recent increases, with five Gardaí assigned to Tralee and three to Killarney over the past year. The latest additions come from a passing-out ceremony at the Garda College in Templemore, where 193 new recruits were deployed nationwide.
Minister Foley said she was pleased to see continued investment in frontline policing. “I am delighted to confirm that two new Gardaí are en route to Tralee. This will further support the excellent work already
being carried out by An Garda Síochána across Kerry,” she said. She also acknowledged the role of Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan in supporting Garda recruitment and strengthening community safety nationwide.

“How can massage and stretching together help my body recover, improve flexibility, and prepare me to return safely to regular exercise?”
"Massage and stretching work powerfully together to support muscle recovery, improve movement, and prepare the body for a safe return to regular exercise. Massage helps increase blood circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to tired or tight muscles while assisting in the removal of metabolic waste.

Aidan, Blennerville

This enhanced oxygenation promotes tissue repair, reduces soreness, and restores the natural glide between muscle fibers, fascia, and surrounding tissues. By releasing tension and breaking down adhesions, massage can improve flexibility and reduce restrictions that may limit movement.
Stretching complements massage by lengthening muscles, improving elasticity, and restoring balanced range of motion throughout the body. When muscles are gently stretched after being softened through massage, they respond more effectively, allowing deeper release and better functional mobility. Together, these therapies can reduce stiffness, improve posture, and lower the risk of injury when resuming physical activity.
For individuals returning to exercise after inactivity, injury, or fatigue, combining massage and stretching offers a holistic approach to rebuilding strength and mobility. This combination supports physical restoration, encourages body awareness, and creates a strong foundation for sustainable fitness." Kevin

The new Kia EV2 is already earning strong praise, and according to the AutoTrader UK review, it’s one of the most complete small electric cars on the market right now.
AutoTrader awarded the EV2 a perfect 5/5 rating, highlighting how Kia has once again delivered a wellbalanced, practical and user-friendly EV. It’s not about flashy performance — instead, the EV2 focuses on doing everyday driving exceptionally well,
making it ideal for Irish roads, town driving and family use.
From an Irish perspective, the numbers are just as impressive. Pricing starts from €28,660 for the entry-level Air model, rising through the range depending on battery size and trim levels.
What really strengthens the EV2’s appeal is Kia’s outstanding warranty package. Buyers get a full 7-year or 150,000km manufacturer warranty,

including coverage for the electric battery — something few rivals can match in Europe.
The AutoTrader review also highlights how the EV2 feels “rightsized” — compact enough for urban life, yet spacious and practical inside. It delivers comfort, ease of use and solid efficiency rather than outright speed, which is exactly what most buyers in this segment want. Add in fast charging, smart in-car

tech and a strong reputation for reliability, and the EV2 becomes a very compelling package. In short, the Kia EV2 is shaping up as one of the best-value electric cars in Ireland — combining affordability, practicality and peace of mind in one smart, well-executed package.

school. Open to all fitness levels, participants can compete for a personal best or simply enjoy the occasion.
Donal’s parents, Fionbarr and
Elma, will officially start the event at 11.30am. Registration opens at 10am on the day, with preregistration also available through the school.

“To make the Irish team (3x3 or 5x5) and win a cup with Tralee Warriors.”
How has your overall experience been since joining the leisure club? My experience has been great, I’ve been able to use the gym, the pool, the steam room and sauna. It’s been great for my recovery and my continued strength training.
Are there any areas of the facility which you particularly enjoy or find most valuable? I enjoy the gym the most. The racks upstairs are great and the space is really good. Never standing around waiting for things to do as there is plenty dumbbells.
Do you feel the equipment and amenities meet your needs during your visits? Yes definitely meets my needs. Sauna is always perfect.
Is there anything we could add or change that would make the club more valuable to you? Honestly don’t think there’s anything I can think of right now that could help. It has everything I need for my workouts don’t think there’s a machine I’m missing.

“I hope to continue to represent my country & county in both Basketball & Football respectively. Help my team mates around me and be a productive role model for the younger athletes”
BASKETBALL & LGFA TRALEE MAGIC & ABBEYDORNEY
How has your overall experience been since joining the leisure club?
My overall experience has been great since joining the leisure club. Knowing that I have somewhere to go to help with my overall fitness is a huge asset for me.
Are there any areas of the facility which you particularly enjoy or find most valuable?
For me, I think that the pool would be of most value you to me. My sporting life can get quite busy so, rest is super important for my muscles.
Do you feel the equipment and amenities meet your needs during your visits? The leisure club has great equipment and amenities and everything I need to help me.
Is there anything we could add or change that would make the club more valuable to you? Thank you for your contact and communication with me. Looking forward to using your facilities after my LC exams.

“To continue playing with Kerry and winning All-Irelands.”
GAELIC FOOTBALL KERRY SENIOR MEN’S & NA GAEIL
How has your overall experience been since joining the leisure club?
I have found access to the leisure club very beneficial and enjoyable.
Are there any areas of the facility which you particularly enjoy or find most valuable? I find the gym and sauna particularly useful with regards strength training as well as recovery post sessions.
Do you feel the equipment and amenities meet your needs during your visits? I definitely think the amenities meet the needs of me as an athlete.
Is there anything we could add or change that would make the club more valuable to you? One recommendation I would have is the addition of some form of cold water therapy such as an ice bath to maximise recovery.

“To play for Kerry as long as I can and win more All-Ireland titles.”
How has your overall experience been since joining the leisure club?
I am really enjoying the leisure club, all the staff are really nice and always greet everyone with a smile, a small thing but this goes such a long way. The place is always spotless, plenty of changing rooms and showers, never waiting for one to free up.
Are there any areas of the facility which you particularly enjoy or find most valuable?
I've mostly been using the swimming pool area, the sauna, pool, steamroom and the jacuzzi. Such a nice place to go to just switch off and all the other users are always very nice. With there being so much to choose from I have never found myself waiting to use one of the facilities, as there is always space in something else and I really like that there is so much space in the sauna, you don't feel like you're sitting on top of people.
Do you feel the equipment and amenities meet your needs during your visits?
100%, I have mainly been using the facility as a means of recovery. For this purpose the place is perfect, plenty to choose from and I can pop in and out of things as I please.
Is there anything we could add or change that would make the club more valuable to you?
In time I would love to see a cold plunge, this would obviously be a big undertaking, but I think lots of people would use it, especially having seen so many athletes using the place as it is. I stayed in a hotel up the country once for a match and they had one dug into the ground on the pool deck, it was small, fit about 4 people comfortably but I thought it was a really good idea and the water was kept at a much colder temperature than the pool water. Again, a big undertaking I know.

“My ambition is to become a consistent international competitor and represent Ireland regularly at European & World level.”
TAEKWON-DO CHOSUN TAEKWON-DO CLUB
How has your overall experience been since joining the leisure club?
My experience so far as an ambassador has been extremely positive. The team has been consistently welcoming and professional, and the gym has become a key part of my training setup.
Are there any areas of the facility which you particularly enjoy or find most valuable?
The studio, in particular, has delivered strong value for me. The space allows me to fully train my patterns while also focusing on flexibility and mobility work.
Do you feel the equipment and amenities meet your needs during your visits?
Across the board, the equipment and facilities are high quality and continue to meet my needs.
Is there anything we could add or change that would make the club more valuable to you?
One potential enhancement, while I appreciate it’s quite specific to my sport, would be the addition of a punching bag or sparring dummy. This would allow me to integrate both technical and contact-based elements of my training within the same environment. That said, I fully understand this may not align with broader member demand, so just offering it as a consideration rather than a priority.

KERRY FC - SSE AIRTRICITY MEN’S FIRST DIVISION
Kerry FC produced one of their finest performances of the season to defeat league leaders Cork City 1-0 at Mounthawk Park on Bank Holiday Monday in front of over 850 supporters. Niall Brookwell scored the only goal in the sixteenth minute after Cork’s defence failed to deal with a Cian Bargary ball. Kerry dominated for long periods and created several chances to extend the lead. The game turned dramatically in the seventy-third minute when Cian Bargary was controversially shown a second yellow card, leaving Kerry to defend with ten men. They did so heroically, with Cork striking the crossbar in the dying minutes. A famous derby victory. Next up: away to Finn Harps in Donegal on Friday.
