The winner for the longest-running court cases is the United States
Mitchell v. United States is case involving a dispute over land rights that has been ongoing since the 1950s. The case involves claims related to Native American land and has involved multiple appeals, and hearings.
Also Cherokee Nation v. Georgia, which dates back to the early 19th century and has had lasting implications for Native American sovereignty and legal rights.
Brown v. Board of Education (1954–Present). While the initial decision was in 1954, the case and has continued through various related legal cases and implementation issues. This landmark US Supreme Court case declared racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional, resulting in consequent development of human rights law and social development
The winner for the shortest Jury trial is New Zealand where on 22 July 2004, Nicholas Clive McAllister was acquitted of cultivating cannabis plants at a hearing which lasted just one minute at Greymouth District Court, Greymouth, West Coast, New Zealand The jury left to consider the verdict at 3.28pm and returned at 3.29 pm.
Amongst the strangest law cases worldwide are: The Case of the Stolen Kidney
A man sued his ex-wife for the return of his kidney, which he had donated to her while they were still married. When their marriage ended bitterly, he demanded either his kidney back or compensation of $1.5 million. The court rejected his claim, citing the legal principle that human organs cannot be considered property in a divorce settlement.
Suing Satan
In 1971, a man named Gerald Mayo sued Satan and his minions for causing him distress trauma and challenging his life. The U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania dismissed the case eventually on the grounds that Satan, being a foreign prince, could not be served a lawsuit without an address.
The Fear of Pickles
In 1999, a woman in Albuquerque, New Mexico, attempted to sue a local TV station for $1.3 million because they showed a picture of a pickle on TV. She claimed to have a severe phobia of pickles and alleged that the sight of them caused her emotional distress. The case was dismissed as the court could not reasonably expect the TV station to know about her specific phobia.
Man Sues Himself
In a Virginia prison in 1995, an inmate made legal history by attempting to sue himself for $5 million. He claimed that he had violated his own civil rights by getting arrested. While he admitted that he couldn’t pay the sum due to being in prison, he suggested that the state should pay on his behalf. The case was quickly dismissed.
The Fear of the Number 666
In 2011, a man in Tennessee left his job after his W-2 tax form had the number “666” printed on it. He believed the number was a mark of the devil and sued the company for constructive dismissal. He won his case in court, and the jury awarded him $150,000 in damages.
The Case of the Dry Cleaning and the Lost Pants
A judge in Washington, D.C., sued a dry cleaner for losing his pair of pants and demanded $67 million for the loss, citing the city’s consumer protection act. The case dragged on for years, and the dry cleaner eventually won, but the legal battle forced them to close their business due to the hefty legal costs.

Tralee Chamber brings out a new resource for Kerry Businesses
Tralee Chamber Alliance has officially launched its Enterprise Supports Booklet — a one-stop guide connecting businesses and entrepreneurs across Kerry with the supports they need to start, grow, and succeed.
Launched at the RDI Hub and proudly supported by Pierse Fitzgibbon, this initiative is a strong example of what collaboration across the business community can achieve.
Originally developed by Dungarvan & West Waterford Chamber, the booklet has been tailored for Kerry — bringing together key funding opportunities, advisory supports, training programmes,

Reach National Space Final
Tralee is celebrating a major achievement in STEM education as students from Mercy Mounthawk have secured a place in the national final of the European Space Agencybacked CanSat competition.
Team ‘The ARC’, representing Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School, earned their spot after an impressive performance at the Kerry regional finals held in MTU Kerry. Their success now puts Tralee firmly on the national stage, showcasing the town’s growing reputation for innovation and academic excellence. The team will travel to Co. Laois on April 30 and May 1, where they will compete against the top six teams in Ireland. The challenge is far from simple — students must design and build a working mini-satellite, small enough to fit inside a drinks can, before launching it via rocket. During descent, their CanSat must gather and transmit real-time data, including air pressure and temperature, which is then analysed and presented to judges.
Ireland by ESERO, is regarded as one of the most advanced STEM programmes for secondary schools, combining engineering, coding, data analysis and teamwork. Reaching the national final is a
significant milestone for the Mercy Mounthawk students and highlights the strength of STEM education in Tralee. With the winning team progressing to represent Ireland at European level, hopes will be high
that ‘The ARC’ can go one step further.
For now, the focus is on the final — and Tralee will be watching closely.

Kerry GAA and Killarney Races Team Up for Ultimate Munster Final Preview
A star-studded afternoon of racing and football analysis will take place at Killarney Racecourse on Saturday, May 9, as Kerry GAA partners with Ireland’s most scenic racecourse for an exclusive preview event ahead of the Munster Senior Football Final. The panel discussion serves as the official curtain-raiser for a massive sporting weekend in the town, with old rivals Kerry and Cork set to clash on Sunday, May 10.
Excitement is reaching a fever pitch across the county as the Kingdom prepares for another high-stakes showdown with the Rebels. With the Munster title on the line, fans are eagerly anticipating whether Kerry can further cement their provincial dominance or if Cork will cause an upset on away soil.

New Recovery Haven support group for Multiple Myeloma patients
Cancer support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry, is inviting participants to join its new, free peer support group for those living with a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. Supported by Multiple Myeloma Ireland (MMI), the first get together takes place at Recovery Haven, 5 Haig’s Terrace, Tralee (V92TN35) on Tuesday, May 5th from 2.30pm - 4pm, offering people a chance to meet with others on the same journey, whether you are recently diagnosed or dealing with the condition for some time. Group leader, Pat Gately, who is a board member of MMI and a member of his local support group in The HOPE Centre in Enniscorthy, says that peer groups such as this can be hugely beneficial to people living with Myeloma.
“As a board member of MMI and a member of my local support group for the last 8 years, I have seen first-hand what a huge benefit a group like this brings to patients at all stages of their journey, from diagnosis through treatment and onto living with myeloma. MTU Kerry Campus Sports Awards Evening 2026
MTU Kerry Campus recently hosted its annual Sports Awards Evening, a celebration of the outstanding achievements, dedication, and commitment of its student athletes and club members.
The event was formally opened by Dr Brendan O Donnell, Director of Student Services, who welcomed students, staff, and guests. In his address, he congratulated all those in attendance on their accomplishments throughout the year, acknowledging both individual excellence and the collective effort that underpins MTU’s vibrant sporting community.
A key highlight of the evening was the presentation of citations to students who play a pivotal role in the running and development of MTU’s sports clubs. Their leadership and voluntary contributions
were recognised as essential to sustaining the university’s strong sporting culture. Club Person of the Year awards were also presented, with each club nominating one outstanding member in recognition of their dedication and impact. Two major awards marked the pinnacle of the evening. The Excellence in Sport Award was presented to para powerlifter, Niamh Buckley, in recognition of her exceptional achievements, in particular, her gold medal at the World Championships in Dubai.
The prestigious Sports Person of the Year award was presented to final year student and Kerry footballer, Keith Evans, honouring his performances and contribution to our university GAA Club over the past year. This award also recognised that throughout his time

Minister Foley Highlights Strong Growth in Kerry Childcare Services
Kerry TD and Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, has welcomed significant growth in early learning and childcare services across the county.
Speaking at a local consultation event in the Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee, as part of the National Conversation on Education, Minister Foley said participation in the Government’s Core Funding scheme continues to rise. She revealed that 163 early years services in Kerry are now receiving direct state support, up
from 142 when the scheme was introduced in 2022.
“Participation levels are very encouraging, with 96 per cent of services now signed up,” she said. “This shows Core Funding is working — supporting providers while helping families through fee freezes and caps.”
Funding for the sector in Kerry has also increased significantly, reaching €11 million for the 2025/2026 programme year — an uplift of nearly €4 million since the scheme began.

Tralee Art Group Unveils Inspiring May Collaborations Across Community and Science
Tralee Art Group (TAG) is set to make a meaningful impact this May with two standout collaborations that place Tralee at the heart of creativity, science and community support across County Kerry. The first initiative sees TAG partner with the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR) at Munster Technological University for the launch of the pioneering Science+Art Project. Opening on Wednesday, May 6 at 2pm in An Cuan, MTU North Campus, this exhibition marks a first for the university. TAG artists have worked closely with scientific imagery, transforming detailed cell biology research into striking visual artworks. The result is a unique and accessible interpretation of complex science, highlighting the powerful connection between creativity and research while showcasing Tralee’s artistic talent and innovation. TAG’s second collaboration reflects its strong community focus, with
the group donating a collection of original landscape paintings to the Irish Kidney Association (IKA) Kerry Branch. These works will be displayed in the Association’s holiday homes in Tralee and Killarney, which provide essential respite for kidney patients and their families in a calm and supportive environment.
Founded in 1984, the IKA Kerry Branch supports those living with kidney disease while promoting organ donation nationwide. Its Tralee and Killarney homes, made possible through local fundraising efforts, offer a vital space for rest and recovery. The addition of artwork is expected to further enhance these surroundings, bringing comfort, warmth and positivity to those who stay. Cara Credit Union and Clogher National School Grow Biodiversity Awareness
Pupils at Clogher National School have been getting hands-on with nature, thanks to a biodiversity initiative supported by Cara Credit Union. The school was one of five randomly selected to take part in the programme, now in its fourth year, which promotes environmental awareness and outdoor learning among primary school children. Delivered in partnership with Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park, the initiative provides students with practical experience in planting trees, growing fruit and understanding the importance of biodiversity. The project aims to instil a lifelong appreciation for nature while helping to enhance school environments.
School principal Sinéad Reidy said pupils were thrilled to get involved. She praised the initiative for combining education with hands-on learning, noting that the school is committed to promoting sustainability and ecological awareness. The addition of trees
and fruit bushes will also leave a lasting legacy for future students.

€100,000 Boost for Kerry Water Projects Welcomed by Cahill
Fianna Fáil TD for Kerry Michael Cahill has welcomed the allocation of almost €100,000 in funding for community-led water quality projects across the county. The funding, announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne and Minister of State Christopher O’Sullivan, will support a range of local initiatives aimed at protecting Kerry’s rivers, lakes and coastal areas.

Kerry College’s ‘WORK’ Exhibition Returns to Siamsa Tíre
Kerry College has announced the return of its much-anticipated annual Creative Arts Exhibition, WORK, which opens on Thursday, April 30th at 6pm in Siamsa Tíre, Tralee.
Now firmly established as a highlight on the local arts calendar, the exhibition celebrates the creativity and innovation of students across a wide range of disciplines. Visitors can expect an impressive mix of traditional and digital work, including painting, sculpture, print-making, animation, games design, graphic design and interactive media.
Opening night will feature a lively programme of performances from learners in Music Performance and Sound & Production, adding to the vibrant atmosphere and showcasing the depth of talent within Kerry College. The exhibition brings together work from students in Art, Craft & Design, Animation, Digital Design with Visual Communication and Games Design, along with contributions from Level 6 Digital Media Production learners and first-year students on the BA (Hons) Animation, Visual Effects and Motion Design degree, delivered in partnership with MTU.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Programme Co-ordinator Mary Kirby said the event is a proud moment for students and staff alike, highlighting both individual achievement and the strength of the creative community in Kerry. Running until Tuesday, May 12th, WORK offers a unique opportunity for the public, industry professionals and art enthusiasts to engage with emerging talent. Admission is free, and all are encouraged to attend this inspiring showcase at Siamsa Tíre.
Red Cross Volunteers Attend Safeguarding Training in Tralee
Eighteen members of the Irish Red Cross gathered at the Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee last Saturday (April 25th) to take part in Safeguarding Awareness Training.
Organised by the Tralee branch, the session was open to volunteers from across Kerry and Cork, including members of the Red Cross Youth section aged over 16. The training, which must be renewed every three years, is an essential part of ensuring volunteers are equipped to work safely with young people and vulnerable adults.
The course was led by Mary Watters, Chair of the National Safeguarding Committee, who outlined key child protection issues that volunteers may encounter in their roles. Participants also heard from Assistant Tutor Charlie Harnett, who provided guidance on the policies, procedures and best practices developed by the Irish Red Cross to safeguard those they support. The day included a mix of presentations, workshops and interactive breakout sessions, allowing volunteers to engage with real-life scenarios and strengthen their understanding.
Chair of Tralee Red Cross, Joe McDonnell, praised the commitment of those who attended. “I am quite sure that Donald P Murphy got inspiration from that great writer, Charles Kickham, who produced the classic novel, Knocknagow.. The protagonist was Matt The Thresher .. The book refers to Matt who did everything for the credit of the little village called Knocknagow..
At this period in time, there was great competition and rivalry between many British army officers and the local athletes Matt The Thresher. was competing with a famous British officer. The Englishman was better and was fitter, and in better condition to the task at hand however, Matt had a burning inside him to take the honours for the credit of the local village. This he achieved and was the flavour of the month in Knocknagow..
And by winning the contest, he created a long-awaited victory of the Gale of the Saxon .
There are several Pubs named Matt the Thresher in Tipperary , And indeed in every parish in Ireland in this present day , there are “Matt The Thresher “ characters. And and they're all great athletes and lead, head and shoulders over their fellow comrades. I wish the novel “Go West Young Man “ every success and happy to see some of the profits of the sale of this book to the Kerry / Cork / Limerick Cancer Bus Fund , a worthy cause .

Senior Men’s County League
Division 1: Another dramatic draw, this time away to Dingle, 1-15 to 1-15. Three black cards left KOR starting the second half with 13 men, but they showed immense character. Shane McElligott scored a crucial goal before the Blues were reduced to 14 men. Dingle levelled late on and deep in injury time a Darragh O’Connor free was flagged over by the umpire only for the referee to overrule it. Frustrating, but the resilience shown was hugely encouraging.
Senior Ladies County League Division 3: Four wins from four after an 11-point victory over Firies, 3-09 to 0-07. Next up: away to ISG, Sunday May 10th.
County Representation: Congratulations to Kerry Seniors on their Munster Championship Semi-Final win over Clare, with Tomás Kennedy on the panel. Well done to the Kerry U20s on a 2-20 to 0-07 win over Clare, setting up a Munster Final against Cork, with Tomás Kennedy playing the full game and scoring two points.
U16 Girls: Showed great fighting spirit against Listowel in the North Kerry League but fell short despite two second-half goals. Best wishes to Sophie Constable who injured her ankle.
U11 Boys: A brilliant day out in Clare with Doora Barefield GAA before watching Kerry’s Munster semi-final win from Cusack Park.

Kerry Minors: Best wishes to Tom Slattery and Danny Kingston who lined out for the Kerry minor boys in their Munster Championship opener against Waterford.
Senior Men’s County League Division 3: A narrow 1-15 to 1-13 defeat away to Listry after a flat first half proved costly. Na Gaeil fought back well but a last-gasp equalising free hit the upright. Next up: Duagh away, May 3rd.
Senior Men B: Drew with Austin Stacks C, 2-12 to 3-09.

U13 Girls: A great display away to Castleisland Desmonds, showing tremendous determination to fight back after a slow start.

Minor Girls: Winning streak continued with victory over Dingle, securing top spot in the group and a place in the final on Friday May 15th.

Primary Games: Congratulations to U14 player Conor Mangan who represented Kerry in the Primary Games at the Kerry v Clare Munster semi-final in Ennis.
U16 Girls - North Kerry League: A 4-16 to 5-05 win over Ballyduff with Ballymac dominant in the first half. Special mention to the U14 players who stepped up brilliantly.
U16 Boys - Central Region Division 2: An impressive 4-09 to 1-14 win over John Mitchels. Ballymac led at half time despite playing into the breeze, with Flynn Boyle outstanding. After Mitchels levelled in the second half, Ballymac responded with crucial goals to seal the win.
Minor Boys - Central Region
Division 1: Two wins from two after a 3-11 to 1-11 victory over Churchill. Next up: John Mitchels in Round 3.
Minor Ladies County League: A strong second-half display, with three goals after the restart, saw Ballymac overcome Spa. A resolute defensive display sealed the win.
U14 Boys County League Round 4: A frustrating 5-10 to 5-10 draw with Beale after leading by two points with two minutes remaining. Great character shown throughout.

Seniors: A 0-17 to 0-14 win over Ballyduff with Fergal O’Brien outstanding throughout. Next up: away to Kilgarvan, Saturday May 2nd at 7pm.
U14 Boys: A brilliant 5-12 to 5-11 win away to Spa Killarney, with a determined second-half display clinching a hard-fought victory. Next up: home to Ardfert, Tuesday April 28th.
U16 Boys: Dingle won 3-09 to 1-13 in Round 4 of the Central Region, though the second half showed much improvement. One group game remaining, away to Keel next Thursday.
U12 Boys: A great away trip to Castlegregory in glorious sunshine with both teams putting on an excellent display.

Senior Men’s County League Division 1: A dominant 3-18 to 0-03 win away to Rathmore, leading 1-07 to 0-00 at half time and never looking back.
Senior Men B: Hard luck to the B team who lost to Legion B, 5-13 to 1-07.
Senior Men C: A remarkable comeback saw the C team draw with Na Gaeil, 3-09 to 2-12, after trailing by nine points midway through the second half. Barry Shanahan was Man of the Match.
U15 Boys - Kerry Féile: Huge congratulations to the Austin Stacks
U15 boys who won the Kerry Féile and will represent Kerry at the national finals in Derry in late June. Minor Football: Next up: home to Milltown, Monday at 7pm in the Central League semi-final.

Kerry FC lost 1-0 away to Longford Town in Bishopsgate on Saturday. Aaron Doran’s twenty-fifth minute finish proved the only goal of the game. Harvey Mangan produced a fine late first-half save to keep Kerry within touching distance but clear chances were hard to come by throughout. Cian Bargary went closest to an equaliser in the second half. Kerry next travel to Athlone Town on Friday.

Kerry Senior Hurlers: Another Christy Ring Cup win away to Roscommon, with club players Diarmuid Quirke, Morgan Madden and Cillian Litchfield on the panel.
