Manor West Sports Ambassador Program 2024

1. Joey , Why did you choose the sport you compete in? My Dad played football with Stacks and my mom was big into sports so I was brought up with sports. I played football rugby and hurling but football was by far the one I enjoyed the most. I grew up with the football in my hands !

2. To date, what is your greatest achievement in sport? My greatest achievement was probably beating Cork in the Munster minor semi final after extra time. That was a great one because there was such a big lead up into that game.Due to covid the championship was postponed by 9 months.

3. What is your ultimate goal that you have set for yourself? To be a starter for the Kerry seniors and win All -Irelands and also win championships with my club.

4. Who has been your biggest influence/mentor in sport? My parents, they’re always there for support when I need anything and they have a great passion for sport and football also.

5. What is your earliest memory of sport? Playing football in the garden with my dad.

6. If you were to play another sport, what would it be? Basketball, you’re sheltered inside from the rain and there’s a good crossover of skills between football and basketball.

7. Within the next year, what will be your main use of our facility here at Manor West Leisure Centre & Zero Gravity Gym ? (recovery, training, rehab etc?.) definitely recovery due to the amount of training I’m currently doing !

Thanks Joey !

Five tips for shopping for a newborn gift or baby shower present

1. Consider Practicality: New parents often appreciate practical gifts that they can use every day. Think about items like onesies, sleepers, and bodysuits in soft, comfortable fabrics. These are essentials that parents can never have too many of, especially in the early months when babies go through multiple outfit changes a day.

2. Opt for Quality: Invest in highquality items that will last. Look for clothes made from organic cotton e.g. from Name It or Babybol, which are gentle on a baby’s delicate skin and wash well. Quality blankets made from breathable materials are also great choices for keeping the baby cosy.

3. Choose Developmental Toys: Soft toys that stimulate a baby’s senses and encourage development are always a hit. Look for toys with contrasting colours, different textures, and gentle sounds. Soft animals, and sensory toys like Sophie la Giraffe are all great options that can help babies explore the world around them.

4. Include Milestone Cards: Milestone cards are a thoughtful addition to any baby gift. These cards feature
