Michael says .. Mobile threats are on the rise, with 80% of phishing attacks targeting mobiles. Phishing used to be an email-only activity until smartphones came along. Now, as smartphones are used for both work and personal activity, you need to be aware of the di erent ways that cybercriminals target victims.
• An email opened on a mobile can make phishing harder to spot. Smaller screens make it more di cult to see who really sent the email. This, coupled with the fact that we often use our mobiles when multi-tasking, makes it easier to fall prey to a scam
• An SMS, WhatsApp or social media message is a common method of attack for mobile phishers, especially if the message appears – at rst glance – to be from a known brand or someone the victim expected to get a message from
• Malicious mobile apps downloaded from o cial app stores have impersonated software from well-known online services, displaying login screens that collect your personal account details. If this happens, you might never even realise you’ve been phished.
Remember that most of these scams work because the scammer creates a false sense of urgency or preys on a heightened emotional state. Pause before you rush to interact with any message that is threatening or urgent, especially if it is from an unknown sender and is on your mobile phone. Mobile Threat Defence (MTD) is a must have tool for protecting personal and business use. It gives you immediate visibility and analysis of mobile threats, while protecting your mobile device.

David and Carmel are planning on moving in together to a new home they have purchased jointly with an equal deposit and drawing down a large mortgage on which they are jointly liable. They are wondering are there any legal issues they should look out for in this situation.
It used to be that for cohabiting unmarried couples that there were no legal implications arising from that relationship. However, since the Civil Partnership and Certain rights and obligations of Cohabitants act 2010 it means that cohabitants have rights as against each other if they are two years living together in an intimate relationship where they have children and five years if no children. This act provides a redress scheme whereby either party to the couple can apply to court for a share of property, assets, pension, maintenance, and succession rights inter alia where the relationship breaks down or one of the parties dies without making a will providing for their cohabitee. As a result, if parties start to cohabit, they do need to consider legal implications at the time they commence the cohabitation and even more importantly if property is involved owned by one or both. In David and Carmel’s situation they would look at how they would hold the property either jointly (where if anything happened either of them it would go to the survivor) or as tenants in common (whereby they own a half share of the property, and it would go to their next of kin or by way of what they set out in a Will ). It would be important therefore that David and Carmel plan what might happen the property if the relationship breaks down or if either of them die. It would be a good idea to do a cohabitants or cohabitation agreement whereby they set out what they agree will happen in a variety of situations. It is a legal document for unmarried couples who live together setting out what they want in terms of arrangements between them for finances, property, and children while they are living together and if they split up become ill or die. The agreement must be at arm’s length with both parties being advised by separate solicitors and the best time to do these is before the parties move in together ideally. The agreement can if fair and reasonable take precedence over the provisions of the redress scheme set out above and would have to be considered by any judge deciding on provision for the parties under the scheme. All in all, David and Samantha should do one of these agreements and finalise wills and insurance policies in conjunction with the agreement.

Minister Foley welcomes confirmation of funding for Kerry Airport
Minister for Education and Kerry
T.D, Norma Foley has received confirmation of €1,423,000 in funding for Kerry Airport.
This Government funding under the Regional Airports Programme 20212025 provides targeted support for vital safety and security operations at the airports such as air traffic control, fire services and security, ensuring airports can continue to remain compliant with regulatory requirements in these areas.
Funding this year to regional airports (Kerry, Donegal, Ireland West and Shannon airports) will total over €11 million.
Minister Foley said that she welcomes this funding which will deliver further vital financial supports
to Kerry Airport.

Planning Granted for Astellas Facility in Tralee
‘I welcome confirmation that Kerry County Council has granted planning permission to Astellas Pharma for a new state-of-the-art facility at Kerry Technology Park, Tralee. This €330 million facility will bring with it highly specialised engineering, science and technology employment to Tralee, Kerry, and the southwest region. Astellas is already a significant and important employer in Kerry and this new development will enhance even more the employment potential in the county. Environmental Surveys Notice
Kerry County Council (KCC) in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) propose to develop a greenway between Tralee and Listowel. The Tralee to Listowel Greenway will be an important addition to the Kingdom of Kerry Greenways.
In order to inform a constraints assessment of the Study Area and to inform the development of potential route options, the Project Team will commence a suite of non-intrusive environmental surveys in January 2024. These surveys will continue throughout 2024.

St. Brendan’s Basketball Club donates
...proceeds of Christmas fundraising efforts to three very worthy charities St. Brendan’s Basketball Club celebrates 30 years since its foundation in 1994 this year and is busy planning a social event in early February and a number of tournaments scheduled for the months of February, March and April to mark this major milestone.
Over the Christmas break the club was busy fundraising with two bag packing days at Dunnes Stores, The Horan Centre and our thanks to all the staff there and particularly Melissa Nix for their help and support. In addition we had a very successful Christmas Draw with €3,000.00 of the funds raised going to three separate charity organisations.
We are very proud to make our annual donations again this year to our nominated charities and the three charities that will benefit from the fundraising efforts are Comfort For Chemo, Kerry Parents and Friends and The Lily Daly Foundation, each receiving €1,000.00.
Representatives from the respective charities came to the home of St. Brendan’s in Moyderwell School in Tralee on Friday to pick up their cheques and we were delighted to hand over the funds in support of three great and very worthy causes.

MTU Campus win bid to host World Rally Championship!
Munster Technological University (MTU) is set to take a leading role in hosting the World Rally Championships (WRC) in Ireland starting from 2025. Following the confirmation of Kerry as one of the three chosen locations by Motor Sport Ireland and World Motor Sport at a press conference in Dublin, MTU’s North Campus in Tralee will play a pivotal role in the prestigious races, which boast a global viewership exceeding 240 million.
Key criteria for hosting the WRC include a 10,000 square meter solid footing site for the WRC service park, along with modern buildings and infrastructure to accommodate essential facilities such as the media center, administrative
functions, and a medical center. MTU North Campus, including the Kerry Sports Academy, met these criteria, making it one of the three preferred locations in Ireland.The major international sporting event could bring an estimated economic benefit of €100m per annum to the region as well as millions of TV viewers .
The last time Ireland hosted a WRC round was in 2009, and the specific location for the upcoming WRC event in Ireland has yet to be disclosed.
Ciara Looney, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at MTU, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating, “This is an incredible
opportunity to promote MTU, Kerry, and Ireland to a global audience. We have world-class facilities at MTU in Kerry, and it’s especially rewarding that the inspection teams recognized these, as well as the great effort everybody involved mounted for our bid.”

KERINS O RAHILLYS NOTES
The club has undergone notable changes in the off-season: Club President Appointment: Richard Walsh (Captain Dick) has been appointed as the club president, succeeding the late Mossie Kelly.
Executive Level Changes: Oliver Molloy is the new chairman, succeeding Haulie Kerins. Oliver has been actively assembling a new team following the departure of some long-serving club officers and executive members.
Executive Team:
Declan Quill will continue as vicechair.
Moira Lynch Horgan joins as the new secretary.
Johnny Keane will act as the assistant secretary.
Additional appointments are yet to be confirmed.
New Bainisteoir (Manager): Ray Walsh has been announced as the new club bainisteoir for
the upcoming year. Ray has a rich history with the club since 2000, contributing at juvenile, minor, U-21, and senior levels.
Significant Achievements: In 2006, he was the bainisteoir when the club won its first county minor championship.
Success continued with three successive minor county leagues in ‘07, ‘08 & ‘09. Joined the senior panel in 2010 for the senior club championship victory.
Notable achievements with the U-21s, winning the club championship in 2013 and a breakthrough moment in 2015 beating East Kerry. Ray is a worthy successor to John O’Connor and uniquely will serve as the manager with his father, Captain Dick, as the new president.
10K/5K Run:
The annual run will take place on Sunday, January 28th, commencing at 11:00 am from the clubhouse. The event is sponsored by FBD and held in association with the Kerry Cancer Support Service.
Last Man Standing:
The popular fundraiser returns with the national league commencement on January 27th. Participants pick the winner of one national league game each round, aiming to be the ‘Last Man Standing’ for a chance to win a cash prize of €500. Weekly updates will be published on the Facebook page.

The Austin Stack Club AGM (senior section) is scheduled for Sunday, January 21st, at 1 pm in the Clubrooms. All are welcome. The U7 boys returned to indoor football action in the Mounthawk School Hall last Sunday with an impressive turnout of 40 U7s. A very enjoyable session was had by players, coaches, and proud parents. Skills were practiced, exciting matches were played, and the determination of the young footballers was evident. The session will continue next Sunday (21st) at Mercy Mounthawk, starting at 10:00 am. Ireland Lights Up/Irish Life Every Step Counts: St. Pats Healthy Club Walking Challenges include the Ireland Lights Up 7-week walk, which began on January 9th at 6.30 pm. It’s not too late to join. Also, participate in the Irish Life Steps Challenge using the MyLife app and help St. Pats GAA climb the leaderboard for a chance to win cash prizes.

TRALEE PARNELLS CLUB NOTES
Hurling Workshop: Tralee Parnells is hosting a hurling and camogie workshop at Kerins O’Rahilly’s clubhouse (upstairs) on Friday, January 26th, at 7:30 pm. Facilitated by John Griffin, former Kerry hurling captain and ex-Kerry hurling GDA, the workshop invites anyone interested in developing hurling and camogie in Parnells and Tralee. Club membership is not required.
Every Step Counts Challenge: The Munster GAA Every Step Counts challenge, aligned with the Ireland Lights Up campaign, promotes health and wellbeing within GAA clubs and communities.
Tralee Parnells, a Healthy Club Gold member, supports the challenge. Clubs covering 4000km between January 8th and February 12th stand a chance to win €2,500. To participate, download the MyLife by Irish Life App, sign up, and select Tralee Parnells as your club.
Club Social - Save the Date:
The Tralee Parnells Hurling and Camogie Club social is scheduled for Saturday, February 24th, at The Rose Hotel.
The event will honor the Men’s Senior Hurling Team, presenting their Co. League and Intermediate Championship medals, and the U15 Camogie squad, winners of the All-Ireland Feile title in Roscommon last June.

Charity celebrates St Brigid’s Day with empowering fashion event Renowned Kerry fashion designers Don O’Neill and Colin Horgan are set to headline a spectacular fashion event on February 1st, launching St. Brigid’s Day celebrations in the Kingdom. This event, touted as the fashion highlight of 2024 in Kerry, will unfold at Killarney’s INEC Arena as part of Recovery Haven Kerry’s Designer Fashion Showcase, commemorating the 1500th anniversary of St. Brigid.
Colin Horgan, a key attraction, will showcase pieces from his extensive collection, while Don O’Neill, the newly appointed Patron of the charity, will present select pieces from his fashion archive. Don highlighted the significance of hosting the event on St. Brigid’s 1500th anniversary, celebrating the saint’s remarkable lifetime achievements and her inspirational qualities as a healer, teacher, and advocate for equality and environmental harmony.
The event, MC’d by RTE broadcaster Mary Kennedy, will feature an exclusive Q&A session with both designers. Event producer Norma O’Donoghue has secured participation from top designers and local boutiques, including Catriona Hanley, Marion Murphy Cooney, Tina Griffin, Frances Fogarty, Cathy Troth, Carol Kennelly, MacBees, Scarlet, the Strand House, and Jasmine.
