The eagerly awaited Trafford Leisure Newsletter is back! With Katie, the new editor firmly in place we can move forward again with a bimonthly newsletter.

I thoroughly enjoyed the annual staff awards that took place last month, over 160 people helped celebrate the achievements of our people – well done to everyone nominated and to our winners and I hope you have spotted yourself in one of the many photos’ taken by our kind photographer Matt Darke.

move Urmston’s facilities include a glass façade with seven metre clip and climb wall, a large fitness suite with the latest cardio and strength equipment, a functional training zone, modern changing village, three fitness and wellbeing studios, a 25-metre L-shaped swimming pool, a five-court sports hall, brand new café with seating for over 100 people, open throughout the day to members and non-members, two party rooms, a sensory room and a wellbeing assessment suite to help members benefit most from their physical activities.

What can I update you on??

Head of People and Culture We have had a fantastic response to the role with over 80 people applying. After a busy few weeks we have now completed stage one and we move forward to the final stage. This will take place on Monday 2nd March and we have three very strong candidates for the next stage.

I look forward to welcoming someone new to our team very soon.

Move Urmston I am looking forward to starting the training off at move Urmston on Saturday. The building is due to be handed over to Trafford Leisure next Friday afternoon and we then have two weeks of fit out and staff training ready to start opening the doors in a phased approach from Monday 16th March 2020.

Altrincham, Stretford and Sale Developments Plans are still progressing on all three by the Council. As you know, we are a small team and once we are able to step away from move Urmston our focus turns fully to move Altrincham.

GM Active Pre-hab for Cancer On the 1st April 2019, a two year trial commenced with our colleagues from GM Active and GM Cancer. There are 17 assessment clinics running right now across Greater Manchester, two of which are in Trafford. At these clinics patients can be referred to one front door and our teams right across GM are delivering together. The trial is for 2000 patients diagnosed with bowel/kidney, stomach or lung cancer and we are delivering our exercise programme for before and after surgery. In Trafford currently we have 64 patients taking part in the program and I honestly believe this will be the first of many referral programmes where we will work as one across GM, whilst ensuring it is right locally for Trafford and improving health outcomes for our people.

At a recent employee voice, a member of our team talked about the need for more Senior Leadership to work/shadow on the front line and at a peak busy time like a Monday night. At the moment, like many of our centre’s we have vacancies and gaps and that at times impact on what we can and can’t do, like so many at the centre’s or golf, you spend your time where the priorities are. That being said, I have reflected on this and thought about what I could commit to personally for 2020. So I am taking my first step in getting back into the operations of the business and on Monday 23rd March 2020 I will be turning up to shadow alongside a receptionist at Altrincham Leisure Centre. I won’t be trained to be of real help, but it will provide closer insight to the staff role and customer interaction that I am sure will help us as a business and team. Look out for the next newsletter, and if the feedback from Altrincham is positive I will commit to working in each of our centres and the golf course in different roles for 2020.

deal with people who are undergoing major changes in their lives due to a change in physical or mental wellbeing and as a result my first meeting with them is nothing more than a chat, health questionnaire and a show around the centre to make them feel more at ease and to gather information as to what we can offer them for support over the 8 weeks.

After consultations it’s up to the gym to work with patients who have signed up to the 8 weeks and are looking to get more active. Their workouts often consist of trying to improve quality of life and everyday movements that we all take for granted such as getting up the stairs, out of a chair or putting on a pair of socks.

How do I make a claim?

Evening time requires a change of gears to coach HIIT and Kettlebell classes where I get the joy of pushing a room full of people through a tough workout followed by Personal Training sessions with clients in the gym working with swimmers, runners and
