ethically-made fashion line and because of women like you! For eight years, I (Gretchen) established and ran an orphanage in Haiti. During that time, mothers were giving up their babies to orphanages simply because they couldn’t afford to take care of them. Charity wasn’t ending poverty. We believe that giving jobs to mothers-in-need is the long-term solution to poverty. When they have dignified work, they can keep and provide for their children and are less vulnerable to human trafficking.

Preserving the ancient art of

BLO CK PR IN T In a small village on the outskirts of Jaipur, Artisans in India use the ancient art of block printing to create our Patrika Scarf and Merit Tote. In large fire-heated kettles, villagers boil onions, tree bark, pomegranates, and other local plants to create their ancestors’ traditional natural plant dyes. Dipping hand-carved wooden blocks into the dyes, Artisans repeatedly stamp small patterns across long sheets of fabric or leather to create a continuous design. When every layer of a design is complete, the fabric is handwashed in boiling water and hung to dry in the desert sun.

Meet Kalawati Kalawati takes pride in preserving the traditions of her ancestors. While poverty and

modernization challenge many traditional Artisans in India, she is able to earn fair wages

while continuing to practice ancient block printing methods. Every handcrafted Patrika

Scarf provides her with opportunities to invest in her family’s health, education, and dream of owning a home. As Kalawati teaches her

skills to younger Artisans, together they can

preserve their village’s Artisan traditions while providing sustainable futures for the next generation.

MEET NYIRABAZA When Nyirabaza’s husband and child passed away, she desperately needed a way to provide food and shelter for her nine surviving children. Still grieving and afraid she might need to give them to an orphanage to prevent starvation, she began selling handcrafted baskets. You can provide women like Nyirabaza with opportunities to provide for their families when you invite your friends over to shop our fair trade products.

Will you empower her? 47

For every $100 in sales beyond $1,000, hostesses earn an additional $20 in hostess dollars. For every new party booked with a confirmed name and party date, the hostess will qualify for an additional half-priced item. Parties must reach $150 to qualify for hostess and booking rewards. Ask your Partner how you can use your hostess dollars towards the price of a new kit.

Keeping families together

In Kenya, where many people struggle with poverty, these women are defying the odds! As fair trade Artisans, they have opportunities to earn an income and receive education and healthcare for themselves and their families. Many Trades of Hope products from Kenya are handcrafted by women with disabilities who would otherwise have no way to provide for themselves or their families due to cultural discrimination. As Artisans, they are able to earn fair wages and become financially independent through dignified sustainable work.

Through our Gifts of Hope outreach program and the local Artisan community center, many Artisans and their families are now able to drink clean water for the first time in their lives, children are receiving structured education, sports, and care, and entire families are being transformed. When you purchase our products from Kenya, you are making a direct impact on the lives of these Artisans and their families.
