It is our pleasure to invite you to the 2nd annual “The Keepin’ Kind” Female Sale, November 8, 2019, at the Russell Livestock Market near Russell, Iowa. The McDonald Red Angus operation is located in southwest Iowa just northwest of Russell in the heart of cow-calf country. Our love and passion for the Red Angus breed started when we purchased our first bull in 2000 to run with our Simmental cattle. While not officially being established in the breed until 2012, we have actively raised and promoted the Red Angus breed for 17 years.

We run 320 purebred Red Angus cows and 120 commercial cows. Today, our main focus is to produce high quality Red Angus cattle that are phenotypically and genotypically desired by cattle producers. Since buying our first Red Angus bull in 2000, we have also been building a strong foundation of cows. Top genetics from James Red Angus, Rich Red Angus, and Ludvigson Stock Farms have been purchased over the years to create what McDonald Red Angus is today.

McDonald Red Angus is owned by Dwight and Cindy McDonald and managed by Layne Robinson (operations and genetics), Mitchell Schroeder (nutrition and health), and Mallory Robinson (marketing).

Our motto at McDonald Red Angus is "Advancing Your Program", and in this offering of females we have brought you our very best. We would let to start out by thanking everyone for taking an interest in our cattle as well as all the other females at the sale. Here at Tlach Red Angus we have been breeding Red Angus cattle for almost 20 years now. Being from North Central Iowa where its flat and prefect corn country we have to strive to have the best of the best cows around to justify making corn ground into pasture. That’s why we have been putting an emphasis on both phenotype and genotype. We have also made sure they have an excellent disposition as we want our grandchildren to be involved in helping us on our farm. When Dwight and Layne confronted us about putting this sale together we were honored, and in response told them we would only bring ones we would keep ourselves but don’t have enough pasture for. We feel this helps our bulls stay sound and adds to their longevity for you. We took a little trip up to Jesse Weber’s place in the spring of 2018 and found the bull we call WEBR Halestorm. It didn’t take much persuasion from Jesse to realize we had found a herd sire that could help progress the next generation forward. This June born heifer may be young but we think she embodies what Halestorm is all about. Extra stoutness at the ground with an exceptional set of feet and legs. This female has all the future in the world and that summer born division at Jr. Nationals is always a fun one to compete in!

The mother of these two flush sisters was the standout high selling bred heifer out of the Pelton Red Angus program back in 2016. Since then she has consistently produced quality, well balanced progeny that offer appeal both on paper and in person.

This natural 2018 calf of our Dina C5096 Donor, and I think she’s proof that Dina can raise one at a high level all on her own.
