MARCH 4, 2017 | 1PM | RICH FAMILY FARM, VINTON, IOWA Thank you for viewing our 2017 bull offering. This year marks the 13th year we have sold bulls in a production sale. We have been blessed to sell bulls from the east coast to the west coast and from Texas to Canada, with the majority of our bulls staying right here in the Midwest. As we strive to offer a more complete product each year, the task doesn’t get easier. It gets more challenging, but that’s what we love about raising seed stock. Because the breeding decisions we make today not only affect our program but our customers programs, Pedigree+Phenotype+Performance=Profitability has been a driving force in the way we evaluate cattle. It has been an honor to raise and sell seed stock into the seed stock industry as well as the commercial industry.

This year’s offering is the most consistent set of bulls to date. Not one sire group stands out above another, and yet there is diversity within each sire group. There are calving ease sires, carcass sires, maternal sires, and performance sires all blended together to create a complete animal that will go out and make the Red Angus breed relevant to the beef industry. Disposition is also a driving force in our decision making. After raising cattle for over 35 years, our observations have shown that mothers who are docile have calves that outperform calves from mothers that are not. In addition, working with and around docile cattle is a pleasure!

Here at Rich Red Angus our goal is to raise bulls that are athletic and ready to go to work breeding cows for many years to come.

Our development strategy is to allow the bulls to grow muscle and skeletal structure, not fat. Our personal experience tells us that fat

may look nice, but has adverse effects on reproduction and longevity. The bulls are fed a high roughage diet consisting of 13% hay, 15% haylage, 27% corn silage, 32% earlage, 10% dried distillers and 3% mineral and balancer. There are a lot of misconceptions in the industry about EPD’s and carcass data. We encourage you to look at the accuracies of the numbers. We look at the actual in herd performance and ratios as a guide to determining future predictability.

We are a family who works together with the common goal of being good stewards of the resources that have been given to us and making them better, whether that is cattle, land, or relationships.

We want to serve you and help you be more successful! One of the opportunities we want to expand upon is the Red Angus commercial replacement heifer. This is the fastest growing aspect of the beef business. Red Angus females are in high demand, and we want to make selling your heifers in our sales an option for you, to add value to your operation.

PROFITABILITY TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms of the sale are cash, check, or other terms agreed to in writing between seller, buyer, and sale manager payable immediately upon conclusion of the sale before animals will be moved. Sale Manager reserves the right to require a certified check as settlement before releasing any cattle.

Buyer hereby grants to Seller/Sale Manager a security interest in the livestock purchased to secure the payment of the purchase price, and Buyer further authorizes Seller/Sale Manager to file any necessary documents with any Secretary of State or other governmental entity necessary to perfect such security interest.

We retain the right to collect semen at our expense on all sale bulls for use in the Rich Red Angus herd.

LIVESTOCK INSURANCE: Please tell the sales clerk when you check out if you would like to insure your purchases, and they will record the necessary information.

All purchases are the buyer’s responsibility as soon as they are sold.

PURCHASER’S RISK: All animals are the owner’s risk prior to their sale and become property of the purchaser as soon as declared sold by the auctioneer.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry for each animal will be transferred to the buyer at the seller’s expense.

FROZEN LOTS: Buyer is to pay for all shipping and handling of embryos and/ or semen. Embryos and/or semen will be shipped COD or a separate account established at the storage facility within 30 days of sufficient payment unless other arrangements are made with Sale Manager and/or Seller.

HEALTH: All animals are eligible for interstate shipment. Interstate health papers prepared by an accredited veterinarian will be furnished on each animal sold. Arrangements for International Shipment should be made with the Sale Manager prior to the auc-

4 Rich Red Angus 13th Annual Production Sale

I thought it would be fitting to start the catalog off with a couple of new sires to our program. 5L Independence 298Y is a bull that we have followed since he was a yearling. He comes from a strong cow family. He is calving ease with carcass, both of which we are blending into our program! We liked his first set of replacement females so we chose to use him. We have been excited to see how he has worked on our cows. Lot 1, RRA SYNERGY 623 is a calving ease herd sire that is just about as complete as you can find! His dam is a first calf heifer going back to one of the great cows in the Six Mile program, Six Mile Lassie 377P. Her sire is Crimson Tide 135, and boy is he a female maker! Take a hard look at the data on this future herd sire prospect. He is the type and kind that can work in any program!

RRA ELDORADO 612 and RRA ELDORADO 615 are full sibs out of C-Bar Eldorado on the A-1 Stony 212Z cow. We purchased 3 embryos resulting in these two bulls and RRA Stony 624, Lot 3A in the “Choice” heifer calf sale held here this past fall. These guys are well made, with each having a unique look. RRA 612 is smoother made, but RRA 615 offers more power in a more rugged package with a BF ratio of 118 and an REA ratio of 103. You can’t go wrong on either of these two calving ease bulls. Both are in the top 14% for Herd Builder.

RRA TLC HAWKEYE 519 is a bull we retained from our 2015 calf crop. Hawkeye is very complete in his phenotype. He has excellent feet and legs with an impressive amount of bone. He has a nice, wide, square hip with a very strong and straight topline. He also has a clean front with great extension. His dam, RRA Rachel 246 746, is the most prolific dam in the history of Rich Red Angus. She has made many replacement females which we have retained in our herd. She also boasts a 107.7 MPPA and a milk EPD of 31 which is in the top 4% of the breed. We’re confident in the maternal power that comes through on his dam’s side. We also have two full sib females here in production on the farm. We’re really happy with how stout, good uddered, and gentle dispositioned they are!
