Weber Land & Cattle Red Angus Bull Sale

Page 1

On behalf of our family, we would like to personally invite everyone to visit us on March 8, 2022. This is our 25th year trying to raise the best Red Angus cattle in the strictest environments. For us, quality cattle have never been the exception; they are the rule. I take the responsibility of providing breeding pieces for my customer’s cowherd extremely seriously, the breeding decisions I make in the spring each year, aren’t made with my back pocket in mind but the influence the results will make on the profitability and productivity of you, my customers programs. Good cattle always bring a premium. While we sell a unique set of heifers each year, every cow behind these bulls has a story, we are as tough as anyone on our own cowherd, and we don’t make excuses for the ones that don’t produce year in and year out. I welcome you to tour the cow herd and replacement heifers. We have nothing to hide and know it will be worth your time. Over the years, I’ve run Weber Land and Cattle with a “common sense” approach to breeding cattle. They need to breed up, have good feet and udders, be low input and wean a big calf. No excuses. We’ve sent some great ones to town that didn’t fit the bill. Long-term, I always figured, it’s cheaper than sending them to the customer. A combination of power, balance on paper and performance on pasture are what we strive for. If you get the catalog and like what you see, give me a call. Good cattle, honesty and trust have built the WEBR program to what it is today, and I’d love the opportunity to earn your business.

The Red Angus breed has developed into one of the most trusted brands of quality in the beef cattle business, the demand for red hided, performance and carcass orientated seedstock has never been higher. With this said, we see the Weber program to be considered one of revolutionary status! Jesse is one that has always embraced every opportunity to improve the cattle phenotypically and numerically. He is a true stockman with true stockman mentality as his mating abilities and breeding decisions subconsciously improve the entire creature each step of the way, and that is why you are reading this book. The Weber cattle have always been top shelf. The creativity in the pedigrees and the design of the stock is very much in the same league as Michelle’s artwork. As the cattle have evolved over the past two decades phenotype and numeric values have changed towards the positive, and the stringent policies of hoof quality, udder integrity, and fertility have remained constant with perfection as the only qualification. That mindset and dedication to excellence is what has kept the bar set for this program and many of those that invest in it today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Last year’s offering was rock solid and was met with substantial positive response from all that acquired or tried, and we are certain that this offering is one in the same with more great ones to select from. They are bred with the “what keeps my customers in business mentality”, as opposed to being members of the “bull of the month club”. Please consider this your personal invite to the 2022 edition of Weber Land and Cattle Red Angus Bull sale. It is one that is looked to as somewhat of a pinnacle of the breed in terms of annual offerings. Sure, we readily admit that there are other influential outfits that have a significantly larger group to select from on an annual basis, but there WILL NOT be an offering as dense in quality from each and every angle and backed by a working cow herd like this set of bulls. These Weber Cattle are built to perform at every aspect of the business and are more than suitable for the progressive commercial operation or another seedstock provider. Make plans to join us on March 8, 2022, and if the team at Innovation Ag Marketing can assist in anyway, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us. Enjoy the bulls,

Tim Anderson Graham Blagg Jered Shipman

Guide to Genetic Data PRO S Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).

HB HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).

GM GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/ High Value).

CED

Lot 1

The influence that Brando will have on our program will be eternal, seldom do sires arise that breed with the surefire consistency that he has for our program. WEBR Brando J113 epitomizes what we love about this sire group, they offer so much more than just being impressive from the two-dimensional view, these cattle are wide backed, powerful hipped and high performing. We focus on keeping a build of longevity whilst adding density and here is a prime example of goals being achieved. As you turn to his number profile you will see he tabulates for big improvements of growth and pay weight along with below average birthweight. When you turn to his pedigree you realize the credibility of his promotion to lot 1. His sister led off the Inaugural “Ripple Effect” and now resides in Salado, Texas with the Bragg family, before that she led the show string for the Bjorklund boys here in Minnesota. He checks all the boxes we make when searching for a stud to lead the sire battery and we think would be a canny investment in the future of your cowherd.

Lot 4 A stout cowman’s bull that is extra wide and burly in his muscle shape, he is masculine headed, wide based and big footed. He is the type that will make a quick and potent influence to the profit margins of your calf crop through injecting additions of pounds and carcass yield in the first generation. His mother stems from the tried-and-true Dallas tribe and is a direct daughter of the curve bending leader, Brown Redemption Y1334.

WEBR WIDE RANGE 105H MATERNAL BROTHER PURCHASED BY HANEKE RANCH, LLC

Lot 5 WEBR Brando J88 is one of the most intriguing bulls we will sell on March 8th, he offers an appealing combination of appropriate birthweight and then trends to be even more impressive come weaning and yearling time. J88 ratioed a 95 with his modest 77-pound birthweight, and has a weight per day of 3.15 that ratios a 110 among his contemporaries. He will add pounds when it counts, but we think his most valuable traits will come from a phenotypic standpoint, he has a build that is difficult to replicate, being extra dimensional, bold ribbed, powerful hipped yet remains flexible at the ground and sets down with a big and correct foot.

A longer sided Brando son that has a quick growth pattern and brings his extra pounds from the extra length and muscle shape he was blessed with. If you are looking to add some extension and eye appeal without making compromises to the easy keeping ability of your calf crop, then J79 comes as a very logical option. He is a maternal brother to the Red Eagle son that the Weidenbach Ranch of South Dakota selected out of the 2021 sale, and the calf reports on that stud are out of this world!

He ratioed a 110 at weaning with his 781 pound weaning weight, and a 109 ratio at a year with 1305 pounds of scale pressure. His performance is backed by genomic predictions that reveal the heritability of his growth is high, as he sits top 18% weaning weight, top 21% yearling weight, top 27% average daily gain, and top 9% carcass weight. J105 is a full brother to the $47,500 high selling bull in 2021, WEBR Red Revival 78H, that was selected by Bayou Creek Ranch of Texas.

Lot 8 J111 is a direct son of Brando that will not only inject growth and performance, but we predict being the source of structural integrity and maternal power. He has been a leader of the pack from early on, almost tipping the scale with almost 800 pounds of weaning weight, and continued to ratio a 110 at a year, gaining 3.6 pounds per day. His mother has been a role model producer in the cowherd, always calving earlier year after year and putting sons in the bull sale or daughters back in the cowherd, she is the producing kind with a royal cow family.

Lot 9 We have a small handful of black hided bulls in this year’s sale. J92 is a direct son of Red Six Mile Brando 666C out of a WEBR Mel 552 daughter that stems from the legendary Lana tribe who has always provided the goods in our program. He comes with some extra stifle expression, boldness of hind quarter and upper hip shape. He offers one of the best marbling figures of any of the Brando sons we will sell.

You will see evidence through his own performance that backs up the hype that surrounds him, he led the 2021 calf crop coming off his cow at 828 pounds and continued that impressive growth trend towards yearling when he topped the class again at 1342 pounds. If you look into the track record of his dam, WEBR Lana 765 you will notice her first calf was the $14,500 heifer calf that headlined the show string for the Bragg Family in 2020. Weber

L A N D + C AT T L E

Lot 13

The Beartooth sons have always been well received, and even though there may only be one this year, WEBR Beartooth J12 more than adequately fills the large shoes his brothers have worn over the past few years. There is much to love about this dark hided stud, his is a longer sided, bigger outlined and extra stout one that has an extra shot of maturity and is reflected by his excelled testicle development. He reads for some added calving ease and lower birth weight, so we feel the versatility he offers makes him a great option for a cowman or seedstock breeder alike. He was raised by a phenomenal first calf heifer that is backed by a powerful cow family.

An outlier in every facet of superior beef production. An individual that will impress, not often do animals come along like WEBR Spartan J16 that have the ability to supply each of the fundamentals required to be elite. His high performance is not just evident in his genomic predictions, but in his real-world data and measurements. He comes by his high quality, honestly with Red Soo Line Ms Lassie 0068 in his maternal pedigree, she was our selection of the historic Wildcat Creek Dispersal and has been a role model producer during her time in Lake Benton. This Spartan has the desirable powerful body construction, stout features and big barreled phenotype that sets him apart in the flesh, then turn to his EPD profile to notice that his growth pattern is impressively curve bending. Lot 19 This is a long spined, functionally constructed son Calvo Wide Range who was raised by an impressive first calving daughter of PIE Cinch 4126, a sire who has built a reputation of volume, power and easy keeping progeny that make for happy cowboys. It takes pretty special black hided ones to get past the sale sort gate, and J117 might be one of the most impressive black ones we have sold to date. The Maxed Out Son

Weber

Lot 31

WEBR Maxed Out J83 does not read the way you would probably expect from inspecting his massive and burly physic. This top 1% HerdBuilder stud tabulates to be a leading calving ease option, he came small but vigorous with a 78 pound birthweight, and his birthweight figure predicts his progeny will follow in his footsteps. He turned the tables to wean off above the average of his contemporaries and has matured with extra capacity and skeletal width. We think that he will generate progeny that are easy keeping and feeding, and the daughters will be built with the longevity that comes from the influence of Cinch and the Brandy cow families you find maternally.

The Maxed Out Sons WEBR Maxed Out J129 is another successful result when using our tried-and-true son of Rolling Deep Y118, WEBR Maxed Out 627. His dam, BRRA New Moon Y715 has been an awesome addition to our cowherd, and her prefix continues to show up in the pedigree of some of our favorites, as her daughters are doing great things in our cowherd. WEBR Maxed Out J129 is dense and thick, extremely dark hided, yet super eye appealing and sound structured. Don’t let is later birthdate and therefore lack of maturity fool you way from his quality.

Lot 32

BRRA NEW MOON Y715 DAM OF LOT 32 WEBR Maxed Out J94 sports a pedigree that features some of the most correctly built, structurally sound animals in the Red Angus breed, we think that he will sire cattle that are equipped with a design that ensures a long breeding tenure or impressive feedability. The Emily cow family is one of the most trustworthy linages we have in Lake Benton, and you will notice the 1135 cow back a generation, she stands on a pedestal in our mind. Well built livestock pay dividends long into the future.

Lot 34 We round out this impressive Maxed Out sire group with J77, he is massive bodied, expressive in his muscle design and stout in his bone makeup. He is the kind that will generate progeny that only continue to distance themselves from the crowd after weaning, as he is bigger framed longer spined and heavy muscled. His Firestorm 1800 mother has been awarded a DMPPA of 104 because of her impressive production record. His maternal sister is one of our favorite females to enter production this spring, and we can’t wait to see the impact that she has within our program.

Lot 35 Even though this Reform son may not have posed with his best look on picture day we think his worth inspection, he is the type you’ll get home and wonder how you could afford him. Not only is he extra eye appealing but he comes with awesome predictions for calving ease both direct and maternally. He comes with the maternal support of the legendary Dolly cow family and as these Reform daughters enter production their status only elevates among our favorites.

The Yearling Bulls A dark pigmented son of one of the men that put our program on the map, WEBR TC Card Shark 1015. As you track his growth it yields some impressive numbers, whilst on test his average daily gain ratioed a 110, as he gained 3.31 pounds a day, even more impressive is the 3.43 pounds he records for weight per day of age to ratio a 120.

An outcross option that still provides a secure form of added performance and pay weight. He offers excellence not only at the scales but over the rail with positive trends for yield grade, rib eye area and marbling, a unique combination. His mother has made for a great addition to our cowherd, always returning to the weaning pen in the fall with an impressive calf, including a maternal brother to Linebacker J115 that sold to Lents Farms in the 2020 Bull Sale.

His mother is a daughter of Dunn Acquisition B506 that works out of the heart of the cowherd, she has raised two fancy heifer calves that have both been drafted to the heifer calf sale pen but we hope to retain one soon to ensure the longevity of this cow families influence in the herd. We think a lot of these Red SSS Maximum 165B derived cattle, they are the right type of beef cattle for low input environments and have the easier keeping body type. Hank J68 is built with longevity in mind and his mother, WEBR Cornerstone 520 only strengthens the case in point, she has a blemish free record that includes a Reform son that is providing the good for the Schweitzer & Hafer programs, a son working for Diamond W and another that long time customers the Lorenzen operation selected.
