We are a new generation of civic leaders. We can strengthen civic life and our communities in a new way. Let’s lead together. Not for us. Not without us. Lead with us.
As youth leaders, we call on each other to… Strengthen our knowledge and ideas.
• Understand how our government works, especially at the local level. • Analyze and use credible sources to learn and share facts. • Share our ideas and perspectives respectfully, and listen to learn.
Lead, volunteer, and serve.
• Step up as civic leaders in school and in the community. • Volunteer for non-profit organizations and important causes. • Pursue public service careers and consider running for elected office.
Participate actively in civic life.
• Communicate with officials and leaders and stay informed. • Show up and speak out on issues and causes important to us. • Get involved in the election process by working at polling places and voting.
We call on adult leaders to… Invest more in K-12 civic education.
• Increase time all students spend on civic learning. • Provide more training and support for teaching civic literacy. • Prioritize civic education in public and private funding.
Increase civic literacy for all.
• Encourage a culture of civic participation across the community. • Strengthen civic information access, use and understanding. • Increase opportunities for civic involvement.
Include youth in decision-making.
• Expand youth representation on boards, committees and government bodies. • Mentor youth leaders, share your knowledge and connections. • Ask if and how youth voices are included in community decisions.
lead with us is a youth-led, non-partisan, call to action from GenerationNation, a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to develop a new generation of civic leaders.
