Jonathan Connolly of J Connolly Agricultural Contractors, based in South Lancashire and Merseyside, recently invested in three Massey Ferguson tractors; two 7718 S and a 7726 S from Clarke & Pulman. Predominantly spreading muck, cultivating and drilling, the three tractors have proved to be invaluable for #TeamConnolly and the addition has complimented their JCB 419S. Established in 2004, the busy Agricultural contracting business has recently decided to expand its fleet to include these three 7700 series tractors. AGCO’s Massey Ferguson introduced their latest addition to the family in July 2020. The new MF 8S series introduces a ‘new era of straightforward and dependable tractors’.
ERA The all new Massey Ferguson NEXT concept was first presented to the public at Agritechnica in Hanover in 2019, boasting higher levels of efficiency, comfort and value for money. Designed by farmers, for farmers. Thierry Lhotte, Vice president & Managing Director of Massey Ferguson explains, “Last November we were celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, which made the impossible become possible. Now it is time to deliver that vision landing on earth.
We are not launching just a tractor, but also marking a new era for our brand.”
MF’s creators are keen to introduce the best in connectivity, technology and design, adding to their already strong and popular portfolio of tractors. The demand of modern and sustainable farming has led to the development of this state-ofthe-art technology, created with the customer in mind, aiding them to manage their business efficiently and successfully with MF’s smart farming capabilities.
With a maximum power range from 205hp to 265hp the new range of four different models of tractor all offer the new ‘Protect-U’ cab and ‘neo-retro’ design. Massey Ferguson created the new design as a blank canvas in an attempt to tackle some the previous imperfections dating back to premillennium models. The ‘Protect-U’ cab/ engine design is centred on the idea of keeping the user insulated from outside noise by leaving a gap between the engine and cab meaning the audible sound in-cab is only 68DB. The 24cm distance also results in less heat pollution as well as protecting them from vibrations, improving cooling and overall performance. The new design build also improves accessibility and allows for easier maintenance. The 360-degree visibility and 3.4m cubed space in cab proves for spacious and light surroundings as well as offering total comfort and safety and sophisticated, high quality internal fixtures. Notably, the deigns offers include an air-suspended leather (optional) heated seat with ergonomic

armrest, automatic air-conditioning and durable suspension. The in-cab electronics are also state of the art with the digital ‘MF vDisplay’ dashboard, 9-inch touch screen and offers easy to use personalised settings and 100% connectivity, all making the user experience seamless and unrivalled. You won’t just be pleasantly surprised by the interior, the exterior design and build quality is also extremely commendable. The new grey sabre stripe appears on the side of the tractor along with the iconic horse collar motif which originally dates back to the 100 series MF models. The new model’s impressive daytime light signature with 16 LED lights also means you are sure to be seen. The new Massey Ferguson MF 8S Series tractors are built on a 3.05m wheelbase that provides stability and improves traction when working with wide, demanding implements, offering up to nearly 10% more traction power. The power is efficiently transferred to the ground through a new, immensely strong rear axle, with a choice of flanged, short, or long bar axles, to suit all operations. New wheel specifications now include the ability to fit up to 2.05m diameter rear tyres, including the brand-new option of VF650/75 R42 Trelleborg TM1000 PT.

Updated Loadall Cab Another of JCB’s latest announcements has been the launch of the new range of loadall telescopic handlers. Created for improved lift, performance, safety and driver control, the all new command-plus cab has the ownerdriver in mind.
The all new S-branded, Stage V Wheel Loader from JCB introduces improved power, performance and efficiency with the introduction of an engine upgrade. The 6.7 litre Cummins engine now features a DPF meeting the new EU Stage V emission legislation, and thanks to LiveLink, this also has the added bonus of being able to be tracked, allowing for easy monitoring of the DPF status. The new Auto engine shutdown reduces unnecessary idle time further contributing to lower emissions and better fuel efficiency and coupled with the increase in Max Power to 195hp and a torque improvement of 6.5% on the 419’s and Max Power to 252hp and huge torque improvement of 25.5% on the 435’s #kingoftheclamp you are guaranteed to benefit from the increased productivity. The new Stage V model also boasts optimal interior enhancements and control layout with improved seat cushioning for first class comfort and cushion damped steering for easier turning.

The new Command Plus cab is ergonomically designed with an impressive 50% reduction in noise pollution due to the purposeengineered rubber door seals. JCB have also incorporated superior visibility with a total of 4 wipers reaching 92% of the windscreens meaning greater visibility in bad weather conditions. The push away steering column with working position memory makes accessibility in and out of the cab easy and coupled with the informative digital display and new control grouping, functionality, productivity and comfort are at the forefront of the design. JCB have also incorporated 60% more dedicated storage space within the cab as well as longer and wider dimensions and overall improved all-round visibility.

Fastrac Launched at Agritechnica in 2019, the new 4000 series Fastrac boasts a number of updates and advancements including the new EU emissions compliant Stage V engine which, like the Wheel Loaders adds in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) but also benefits from the addition of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to further reduce pollutants. The engine performance remains unchanged however the introduction of the Auto-stop feature and 600 hour service intervals for the oil filters results in an overall reduction of cost of ownership whilst providing excellent performance and greater productivity. An increase in front axle load capacity of 33%, heavy duty axles and larger disc brakes with the ability of new tyre options means increased traction in the field and the ability to minimise compaction and increase productivity.

Barbour has had a long and eventful history, dating back to its creation by John Barbour at 5 Market Place, South Shields in 1894. We find out more about this iconic countrywear brand. To this day it remains a family business incorporating its unique values of the British Countryside to all of its garments whether they be for men, women, children or dogs! With the creation of the first mail order catalogue in 1908, the durable and hard-wearing clothing would supply the community of sailors, shipyard workers and fishermen in an attempt to combat the harsh northern weather. The paraffin-based wax used by Barbour proved to offer a much more versatile fabric than the previous oil and cotton
combinations. The waxed cotton soon became a necessary staple for country sportsmen and women, farmers and gamekeepers to protect them during the harsh winters. Developed and produced in Finland, the G series tractor is built with a 4.4 litre, 4-cylinder AGCOPower compact engine allowing for a smaller bonnet and increased driver visibility. This makes the G Series a perfect tractor for the livestock

The compact NEW Fendt 314 packs in 152hp AGCO’s Fendt has just introduced a new model to its 300 Vario series tractor range. Nominated for Best Tractor of the Year 2020 in the in the Compact Tractor category, the all new Fendt 314 Vario has been described as the ‘top-end’ addition to the 300 series collection, with 152 hp and more power with Dynamic Performance (DP), it is specially designed to be a high horse power compact tractor. The Fendt 314 is a perfect all-rounder for stock farmers and versatile for arable farmers. The addition of DP means that the tractor automatically determines the need for extra power allowing for 10hp to be freed up on demand from specific components without altering the speed or application. The engine power is distributed throughout the tractor and DP kicks in when more power is needed for a specific job, reducing the distribution of power at certain points to accommodate. This also applies to when the machine is stationary and using implements such as mixers and slurry stirrers. Available in Profi Power and Profi+ versions the 314 is a compact, agile and lightweight tractor, perfect for multiple functions.

As well as being an addition to the 300 series tractors, Fendt have also unveiled the new FendtONE Control System for the 700 series. The new control system has three new, key elements. One of the most obvious of the additions to the interior is the digital dashboard display and includes a 12” terminal and fully touch screen monitor. The on-screen display also now shows 6 interactive tiles instead of 4 which can each be designed to the user’s own specification. Like a smart phone, you can design and view multiple screens or ‘pages’ with the ability to switching between for the ultimate driver ease-of-use. Another benefit of the control system is the ability to change the user of the system, meaning that each operator can design their own personalised layout on screen. This also allows for the radio to run through the screen as well as a mobile phone, similar to the current 900 series. Fendt have kept the familiarity of older models when it comes to the armrest design – the joystick with button grouping has remained the same but the design and aesthetics
have been updated to enhance the in-cab user experience. The futureready design of the 3L optional joystick means operation capacity of up to 3 levels and 27 functions. Additionally, should you choose to add this as an extra, the technology is installed ready and compatible with ISOBUS for the future. The task management system means that you don’t need to invest in a Farm Management System (FMS) and can seamlessly transfer data from field to farm and vice versa. This will revolutionise farms with multiple machines as all tractors in the fleet can be synced to the office.
