CLUB ETHOS & CORE VALUES

MINSTER FC IS FUNDAMENTALLY A COMMUNITY ASSET BUILT ON PRIDE, RESPECT, AND MUTUAL SUPPORT. OUR IDENTITY IS DEFINED BY THREE PILLARS:

DOING THINGS PROPERLY:

We pride ourselves on being a well-structured, professional grassroots organisation. From our coaching standards and pitch facilities to our administration and player development, we strive to operate at the highest possible standard.

A TRUE COMMUNITY CLUB:

We are built upon lasting friendships. Our core mission is to provide a safe, competitive, and welcoming environment where local people can play, compete, train, and socialise.

A STRONG CULTURE:

At Minster we expect all those associated with the club to represent our club with dignity, integrity, discipline and respect.

This applies in all aspects of life; match days, training , on social media and in wider community.

We are proud of our reputation and those that represent the club.

THE HISTORICAL JOURNEY

EARLY HISTORY (1911–2013)

Minster Football Club was established in 1911, deeply rooted in the village community of the Isle of Thanet, Kent. For over a century, the club’s traditional home remained the Minster Recreation Ground on St. Mildred’s Road. While the mid-20th century saw competitive stints in regional leagues, the late 1980s brought severe logistical strain and a threat of folding. Kept alive by dedicated local volunteers—including Ralph “Colin” Holden, Phil Sackett MBE and Ken “Rocky” Beale—the club successfully preserved its continuous history and maintained its community presence.

RECENT HISTORY (2014–2019)

As visualised in the historical timeline chart below the modern resurgence of Minster FC began in earnest during the 2014-15 season when they entered the Canterbury & District Football League (CDFL) Division 2 as a single adult team.

2014–2016: Back-to-back years in CDFL Division 2.

2016–17: Earned promotion to CDFL Division 1.

2017–18:

A landmark season. The club won the Kent FA Junior Cup B, providing the competitive catalyst for the club’s wider ambitions.

2018–19: Competed in the CDFL Premier Division, setting the stage for their transition to county-level football.

RAPID RISE THROUGH THE KENT COUNTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (2019–2026)

In 2019, Minster FC officially stepped up to the Kent County Football League (KCFL), accompanied by a massive expansion of the club’s infrastructure. As shown in the image, a Reserve team was added in 2019, followed by the introduction of a third team—proudly named “1911”—in 2020.

The First Team’s rise through the KCFL divisions was swift and highly consistent:

2019–20: Competed in KCFL Division 3 C&E (with Reserves in CDFL Division 1).

2020–21: Earned immediate progression to KCFL Division 2 C&E.

2021–22: Promoted again after a stellar year in KCFL Division 1 C&E, capping off the season as the Kent County Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Winners.

The Premier Division Era (2022–2026): Minster FC established themselves as an absolute powerhouse in the KCFL Premier Division, putting together an incredibly consistent four-year run finishing 2nd, 4th, 2nd, and 2nd. During this era, the club also secured the Kent FA Intermediate Challenge Shield in 2024.

PROMOTION & THE NEW ERA (2026–27)

Following their latest 2nd-place finish in the 2025-26 season, Minster FC officially secured their landmark promotion out of county football. Entering the 2026-27 season, the club’s First Team will compete in the Southern Counties East Football League (SCEFL) Division One, stepping into step 6 football for the first time in the clubs history.

SQUAD PATHWAY

The club acts as a complete pathway for local players, expanding to support a First Team, a Reserve side, the Saturday “1911” and Sunday developmental teams, an over-35s “Old Boys” team, and multiple youth squads ranging across the Kent Youth Leagues.

Minster FC is managed by a dedicated committee of volunteers who oversee the club’s administrative duties, finances, governance, and rapid expansion.

PLAYER FINANCIAL & CLUB RESPONSIBILITIES:

To maintain club operations, facility rentals, and equipment:

Training Fees: All players across the entire club structure are strictly required to pay for their own training.

Match Fees: In addition to training costs, players representing the Reserves and the 1911 teams must pay individual match fees for every fixture.

Fundraising Schemes: The club runs a variety of vital fundraising initiatives throughout the year. All players across all teams are expected to actively participate and buy into these schemes, should they be able to.

Arrears, Suspensions & Support Policy: Club and league rules dictate that players who fall behind on their training or match fees can be stopped from playing, and outstanding debts can prevent an individual from registering with other clubs. However, Minster FC is fundamentally a community club; if a player needs financial support with fees, they are encouraged to speak directly to the committee. The club always wants to support its players in any way possible to keep them playing football.
