Together we can end hate in football Poor behaviour in football is increasing. Prejudice is on the rise. All forms of discrimination – including racist, sexist and homophobic abuse – is ruining our game. We’re targeting discriminatory abuse in all its forms with a range of punishments. Tell us when it happens, and we’ll tackle it. Together we can put an end to discrimination in the grassroots game.
from the chair Welcome to Hartsdown Park for the first game of 2026. We wish you all a Happy New Year from Minster Football Club and hope that you have had a good Christmas break (hopefully avoiding the flu!) Today we face Snodland Town Reserves who are enjoying their 2nd successive season in the Premier Division having been promoted in the 2023/24 season and kept clear of the relegation zone with points to spare last season. Their victory over us last April not only guaranteed their safety but also ended our Premier Division title chances and declared New Romney as champions. It was an eventful night that didn’t go our way and I recall that we were able to congratulate a courteous New Romney management team who had travelled to the game hoping for the result to go in their favour. We welcome our man in the middle today, Kayden and his assistants Gareth and Nic. I think this is the first time we have seen Kayden since he was awarded the KCFL Most Promising Referee award at the end of last season – so congratulations (somewhat belated!) to Kayden on his rise through the referee levels and receiving recognition from the league. I guess it’s the time when we talk about New Year resolutions and aspirations for the next 12 months. With the club we continue to head in the right direction, and we have a few targets away from on-pitch performances as we try to establish the background support that is needed as we continue to grow. This time last year we had women’s football as one of our aims and as I’m sure you are aware (if a regular reader) that our new women’s team – The Hinds – are taking their debut season by storm and remain undefeated so far (check the inside pages). We are also immensely proud of our youth teams and have started to reap the benefits of the young lads being eligible and certainly skilled enough to make appearances for our adults’ teams – including quite a few KCFL appearances. The cooperation with the youth team coaches is essential for this as we also need to manage minutes. Player welfare comes before anything else of course - especially the youngsters. As you will read on the next pages, we had a good start in 2026 last week away to Bexley and let’s hope we carry on this afternoon. Thanks for coming along today and enjoy the match.

from the boss Happy New Year and welcome to Hartsdown Park! All at the club hope that you had a great festive period and wish you all the best for 2026. 2025 was a great year for our club as we continue to see growth and success on and off the pitch and we are sure that 2026 will go the same way, we hope that you are able to join us for the journey. Today we host Snodland Town Reserves for the return fixture having played them back at the end of October. On that day we left with a point following a 3-3 draw, goals from Jake Munday, Todd Jordan and John Argyrides seeing us lead 3-1 only to be pegged back and ultimately having to share the spoils. Snodland arrive at us today with a record of 7 wins, 3 draws and 9 defeats from their 19 games. We expect a difficult game against a familiar opponent as we look to build upon our recent good run. Our last home game was way back on the 6th December as we faced a resilient Kings Hill side. We put in one of our best all-round performances of the season, having to show patience to finally take a 2-0 win despite us controlling large parts of the game. We looked defensively secure throughout the game with a strong high line, winning the ball back in good areas and setting us on the front foot offensively. A number of chances were created in the first half, but we would enter half time all square. The second half saw us increase our dominance and Charlie Sharp eventually broke the deadlock with a fine lob from a tight angle to see us rewarded for our control of the game. It took until the 88th minute for us to score the second goal and secure all three points, Todd Jordan smashing home a free kick from 30 yards, too much power for the beleaguered Kings Hill keeper. This was a fine victory in what would prove to be our last fixture of the year and a very satisfying way to end 2025.

The next week should have seen us play against Falconwood, but their postponed cup game took precedence, ensuring that our two games against the table topping side will be played in the second half of the season. The following week our game against Meridian was postponed due to a lack of opposition players - this trip to London will be rescheduled. With no game scheduled for 27th December we would not have another game until 3rd January as we kicked off the new year against a Bexley side who play their games at the home of Cray Wanderers FC. The benefits of a high-quality artificial surface were apparent as many games across the county were called off due to the freezing conditions. It was important for us to try and quickly regain the momentum of last month, a difficult proposition against a fast, direct and strong Bexley side. Ultimately, we would shrug off the long layoff to put in yet another strong overall performance, albeit one where we were had to defend superbly and attack Bexley on the break with quality passing into our attacking players. Charlie Sharp converted two near identical chances in the first half, two angled balls from Curt Jordan saw Charlie take the ball in his stride and finish from tight angles to give us a 2-1 half time lead. Bexley had plenty of possession but few chances in the second half and Charlie Sharp ended the game as a contest with two more goals in 70th and 80th minutes, the first of which was a fine strike from the edge of the box, the fourth a long range effort that may have taken a slight deflection to confound both the keeper and those watching! Four goals for Charlie Sharp and an excellent individual performance ensured a memorable afternoon for him and one that would help the team to earn a deserved victory that sets the year off to a positive start to the year. We now move onto a run of fixtures as below that will be tough, but these are challenges we relish as we continue our pursuit of Falconwood at the top of the league. We are now into the second half of the season and there is all to play for.
We hope that you enjoy the game this afternoon and we look forward to having your support. Hopefully we will see you again for the Guru Nanak and Fleetdown games!

welcome to minster fc You will have seen from the club crest that we are over 100 years old with only World Wars getting in the way of continued existence – a matter not taken lightly as club players and staff fought for their country during these difficult times. If you get a chance take a look at the club photos at our pavilion main hall that reminds us of our history and the generations of players that have represented our club. Throughout these years there have been successful teams – most notably in the 1960s – that have played the game in the right spirit and have set the foundations for future generations to continue. A difficult time in the early 1980s saw the club – with only a single team at the time - almost fail to finish a season in the Thanet League due to lack of players and support. My father Ralph (also known locally as Colin) stepped in to gather as many eligible youngsters – including myself – to register and play those final matches to keep the club alive. The results didn’t matter – there was a much larger motive to keep the continuity of the club. For us 16/17 year old lads at the time we were finally playing for Minster – a team we had watched from the sidelines for many years. The following seasons saw the club continue to build from the very bottom upwards. Our club has now grown very quickly in these last 11-12 years as we have built on the success of a very young team – managed by Ian Wallace - that have progressed through the Canterbury & District League and further into the Kent County Football League to the Premier Division where we have consolidated our standing in this division. Two further adult teams were added in 2019/2020 and during these last 5 years we have seen our club develop a pathway for young players within the area to progress with their football. Our veterans team continue to enjoy their football in the local len Martin Thanet & District League. We are also really happy to now have four youth teams represent Minster from U15 to U18 age groups and our previous youth teams have provided players into our adults squads. This season also sees the club develop a women's football team for the first time since the 1960s when Minster were one of the original female teams in the area. Whilst we have had good fortune on the pitch these last few years backed by a huge amount of effort away from match days, we continue to be a club that see long term friendships and a sense of community spirit as being the real “winning.” A village team that will continue to use football to build competitive spirit alongside friendships that will last a lifetime.
