from the chair Everyone loves an evening under the floodlights, don’t they? Welcome to Hartsdown Park for this return fixture against Canterbury City who know this ground well having been the previous groundshare tenant with Margate FC prior to this season. We welcome Mark and his squad for what is a relatively short journey compared to other away fixtures they will face this season. We also welcome back our officials Kiran, Will and Tom who are also no strangers to Hartsdown Park. Canterbury’s recent journey - having taken voluntary relegation into the Kent County League - has been an example of a club maintaining their principles and choosing to rebuild rather than losing the club in its entirety. I often use the phrase “what’s the worst thing that can happen” when talking about the future of Minster FC - often the worst-case scenario is still having a club that provides local football opportunities for all, regardless of the level of competition – and this is still not a bad thing is it? On more than one occasion this has been interpreted as a lack of ambition – but the ambition is to reach the highest level as possible with the resources available.
Canterbury City should be applauded for the steps they have taken to keep their club and preserve its history – and then this will allow them to build again, I’m sure. Earlier this year when it was apparent that Canterbury City were not going to continue with the ground share here, I was personally contacted by the club for a discussion about how both of our clubs operate and what the future might hold. This conversation also led to the experiences that both of our clubs have right now in maintaining a good level of performance on the pitch but also to be able to get finances in place to keep this going. It was a phone call that was much appreciated, it helped me understand what the Canterbury City has been through and confirmed our mutual respect. We may be correctly labelled as “local rivals” on the pitch - but away from the 90 minutes we share a lot of common ground and Minster FC continue to look up to the past achievements of Canterbury City and wish them well for the future. from the boss Good afternoon all and welcome to Hartsdown Park. This evening we welcome Canterbury City to Hartsdown Park, from the current tenant to a former one, we offer a warm welcome. Canterbury City have found themselves in the Kent County Premier Division following voluntary relegation last season and have found the league as tough as would be expected. With a record of 2 wins, 4 draws and 11 losses, they find themselves at the foot of the table but we would underestimate them at our peril. We played Canterbury in early August and it took two very late goals from Jack Hawkins for us to take a win from what looked to be a defeat. We showed pleasing character and quality in key moments to record a 3-2 win despite trailing late into the game. We will also welcome back a number of ex-minster players this evening, it will be good to see some familiar faces.
This evening represents an early opportunity to bounce back from a disappointing weekend result and we must ensure our performance is of the required level to warrant a return to winning ways. Saturday saw us exit the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield following a 5-3 reverse to Division 1 table toppers Borden Village. Our opponents went about their business with physicality and intent, taking a 2-1 half time lead which was extended to 4-1 midway through the second half. Todd Jordan had cancelled out Borden’s early lead with an excellent free kick but we would concede late in the half to trail at half time. Magnus Lewis saved a penalty at 4-1, a moment which sparked a revival from us as we forced the game into being a contest in the closing stages. Lewis Ray converted from close range and Kieran Jones scored from outside the penalty areas to register his first goal for the first team. For us to be in the game at this point given the way the contest had panned out was to the players credit. A turnover from a last minute free kick saw Borden secure the win with a fifth goal and we were left to rue a performance that was far below our high standards.

Having exited both cup competitions we now find ourselves in the position of focussing solely on the league campaign and we have a chance to add six points to our tally in the next few days as we face Canterbury City this evening and Cuxton 1992 this weekend. The weekend fixture will see us return to the Gallagher stadium for the first time since we left there with the Kent Junior B cup in 2018. A blisteringly hot day saw us take a 5-2 victory against Borden Village Reserves and a personal highlight towards the latter stages of my playing career. A number of the players in the squad on that day still represent the club today and it was a real milestone in the development of the club in terms of playing levels at the time. Back then we had just the one men's senior team and no other representatives at any level. As a reference point, it is amazing to see how much the club has grown in terms of representation and teams since that time. Following this week's fixtures we will then move onto our second game of the season against Stansfeld, this time at Hartsdown Park before taking on table topping Falconwood away from home. Our final game of 2025 will see us travel to VP Meridian FC, once again for the second game against this opponent this season. By this point we will have reached the half way point of the season, a reference point some teams in the league have already reached. We know we will be in contention at the top of the divisions as we move into the new year and it will be exciting to look forward to 2026 with optimism. Tonight represents the start of a tough run of league fixtures but we embrace the competition as ever and we have a lot to play for. It will be important to bounce back from the weekend in terms of quality of performance and if we do so I am confident a positive result will be the outcome. Our undefeated womens team Sunday 9th November 2025 came up against a team in the SECWFL Divisional Cup division above in the league cup last week. It was a good test of the level 4 MINSTER FC WOMEN that this team can play and whilst 5 DANSON SPORTS FC LADIES they were always chasing the game, the girls certainly proved that they can compete against tougher opposition. The SECWFL fixture super- computer has created a break of a few weeks when The Hinds really wanted to get back at it ! Next match is 7th December away to Maidstone United FC Development

welcome to minster fc You will have seen from the club crest that we are over 100 years old with only World Wars getting in the way of continued existence – a matter not taken lightly as club players and staff fought for their country during these difficult times. If you get a chance take a look at the club photos at our pavilion main hall that reminds us of our history and the generations of players that have represented our club. Throughout these years there have been successful teams – most notably in the 1960s – that have played the game in the right spirit and have set the foundations for future generations to continue. A difficult time in the early 1980s saw the club – with only a single team at the time - almost fail to finish a season in the Thanet League due to lack of players and support. My father Ralph (also known locally as Colin) stepped in to gather as many eligible youngsters – including myself – to register and play those final matches to keep the club alive. The results didn’t matter – there was a much larger motive to keep the continuity of the club. For us 16/17 year old lads at the time we were finally playing for Minster – a team we had watched from the sidelines for many years. The following seasons saw the club continue to build from the very bottom upwards. Our club has now grown very quickly in these last 11-12 years as we have built on the success of a very young team – managed by Ian Wallace - that have progressed through the Canterbury & District League and further into the Kent County Football League to the Premier Division where we have consolidated our standing in this division. Two further adult teams were added in 2019/2020 and during these last 5 years we have seen our club develop a pathway for young players within the area to progress with their football. Our veterans team continue to enjoy their football in the local len Martin Thanet & District League. We are also really happy to now have four youth teams represent Minster from U15 to U18 age groups and our previous youth teams have provided players into our adults squads. This season also sees the club develop a women's football team for the first time since the 1960s when Minster were one of the original female teams in the area. Whilst we have had good fortune on the pitch these last few years backed by a huge amount of effort away from match days, we continue to be a club that see long term friendships and a sense of community spirit as being the real “winning.” A village team that will continue to use football to build competitive spirit alongside friendships that will last a lifetime.
