In the founding match, Thanet XI emerged victorious in an exciting 6-3 game which would prove to be more balanced than on paper. Garden of England had the stars in their favour, however several counter-attacks pivoted the day to Thanet. Fastforward to 24th May though and £1,088.93 in total was raised for Cancer Research UK across both the JustGiving page and at the gate, by 311 spectators - even more than some of Margate’s home games across 24/25!
For those unfamiliar with the format, the finest array of Sunday League regulars got called up a few months back, except this time around there would be a huge new incentive to deliver. Six household names of the Premier League would be joining them. Following an unforgettable display in the previous game by Jamaican national team hero Kevin Lisbie, many reputable icons turned their eyes to the foundation. Jeremie Aliadiere was the first to take on the challenge. Next, West Ham’s holding midfielder of the 2000’s, Hayden Mullins, put his name in the hat. Then business really picked up. Matthew Upson, Jamie O’Hara, Pascal Chimbonda...! And thus, Thanet XI and Garden of England welcomed some scintillating ballers to their squads, all of which we grew up watching, and some even inspired us to try and do what they do. Along with the acquisition of YouTube unit WheresMyChallenge making their way from Southampton, was Hythe-based returning playmaker Sammy Evison with his Knuckleball twin and Counting House resident DJ Charlie in tow - and of course Thanet XI’s last-minute recruitment of Arsenal legend Perry Groves as the head coach. The star-studded lineup simply raised the temperature to boiling point.
As the hundreds of spectators took their seats, gameplans were forged. For the challengers, a flat and direct 4-4-2. Many returning faces would kick this game off, including Jimmy Setterfield, Haden Plank and captain Jay Zannetti. Right-back Aaron Hollands would feature, having missed out on the prior game due to injury, and finally in the first XI, newcomers Ryan Vincent, Ryan Young and ‘The Cuban Crisis’ Joey Steers take to the field.
Lewis Levy and Harry Ley were notably accompanied by Paul Parker - he was credited with an honorary spot in the team to commemorate his influence following his untimely passing in January 2024.
Perry Groves would opt for a similar structure, albeit with a more fluid tactical method. The defensive line, consisting of Matthew Upson, Tom Balsom, Jonny Gilbert and Liam Goldsmith, were encouraged to build play from deep, with Jamie O’Hara tasked with cutting back and lending a hand. Side-midfielders, Luke Jeys and Josh Ring, would provide cover for 6-a-side sensation Kieran Fleet to freely operate as a false-9, to serve up opportunities for strikers Hennessey and Jenkin. Effective reinforcements like Kevin Lisbie, Jack Butterworth and Harvey Dooney would remain on standby for a quick impact if in a dire situation.
The first goal of the game arrived in a flash with Arsenal invincible Jeremie Aliadiere breaking the deadlock in the 4th minute. Ryan Jenkin was presented with a handful of clear chances to pull level but narrowly missed the target. Come the 15th minute, a pinpoint Jake Marley corner landed gracefully at the feet of Hayden Mullins, who slotted home goal number two. Now on the back foot, Thanet XI applied their speed on the break and broke through the no-nonsense defence of Garden, with Wes Hennessey narrowing the deficit. A chance at redemption seemed nigh, however heads would drop as an untimely clash from Kain McGrath into Jeremie Aliadiere saw a spot-kick cleanly converted by Josh Lowther - as if there were any doubt. Kevin Lisbie once again penned his name onto the #ibdvisible scoresheet with a 25-yard bullet, which phased stopper Ryan Vincent, and with the heat and tension climbing rapidly before the halfway whistle, a surprise offfield incident left Thanet XI jaded and demoralised. Firstly, a drop-ball was suddenly scored by Aliadiere, and less than 50 seconds later, the French finisher would complete his hat-trick to bring us to the interval, at Thanet 2-5 Garden. Vengeance was surely on their hands after a 3-year hiatus.

Returning from the break, both keepers would be rotated, with hometown hero Lee Strutt of quadruple-winning Kings United FC between the posts for Thanet XI and internet skillster Charlie Evison covering for Ryan Vincent. The likes of George Hogg, Calum Linksted and Charlie Barton would also enter play - all talents capable of initiating a switch in dynamic on any day. Thanet XI were much more conservative in possession from the get-go, as Jamie O’Hara drove the ball long into the path of TFM’s very own Russel Goldsmith, who sent it past Evison into the far corner. Could the comeback be on the horizon? Any lingering suggestions of a return to form for Thanet XI would be quashed though, as Danny Caller’s spectacular vision allowed him to force an opening from his own back line. He hammered the ball long, directly to Jake Marley, who slid between McGrath and Ring and dinked it over Strutty’s head. In quick succession, Aliadiere would assist Luke Calder in slamming the ball past Strutt, and in under sixty seconds yet again, Garden of England were coasting at 7-3.
It’s fair to assume Thanet XI couldn’t remain engaged in the proceedings with motivation dwindling. Chimbonda and Aliadiere wreaked havoc with their partnership, confidence oozing. Josh Ring would dispossess the Gunner before Luke Calder scooped up the opening and powered home. A sloppy mis-kick from the returning Gilbert allowed Thanet XI’s former asset Charlie Barton to rocket a long-range finesse shot effortlessly into the top corner, their former talisman haunting them deep beyond recovery. In what many called the goal of the game, that picturesque conversion put the nail in the coffin. A few final attempts from the likes of Lewis Burke and Ryan Jenkin proved futile, as after 90 riveting minutes, the ref’s whistle sounded one last time to put it to bed. Garden of England, your 2025 #IBDvisible champions, in an overall dominating performance.
The Thanet Lions organisation would declare Thanet’s first-half goalie Luke Ronchetti as Man of the Match. Although five were conceded during his time on the pitch, he prevented several more chances, and the Lions felt his commitment in remaining composed when a few questionable goals went in from dead-balls, cemented him as a pioneer in their spirit.
Jay Zannetti would be the man to raise the cup aloft in a game where many players had their moments to shine. For Lewis and Harry, they did their brother Pauly proud in a bittersweet scene. Many of the roster brought their A-game to legends from their favourite teams, and with Cancer Research UK honoured in commendable fashion, many must feel a best-of-3 must be contested in the future.
And honestly, the organisers feel the same way. The boys put on an amazing show for the spectators who banded together for a matchday which will be remembered for a long time to come.

WHERE DO WE START! WOW! WHAT A SEASON. HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE!
It’s been an amazing season, their only defeats coming against Rising Sun in the Kent Cup, losing 2-1 in a closely fought battle, with Rising Sun eventually going on to win the trophy.
The other defeat was a 1-0 loss against Cramptons in the group stages of the Chris Sear Memorial Cup. Kings also boasted a 100% record in the League.
The cup completions were by no means easy. They had to endure 4 penalty shoot outs along the way - defeating Windmill on the Quarter Final of the Challenge Cup, Hussar in the quarter of the Chris Sear Cup, Cramptons in the Semi of the Chris Sear Cup, then Counting House in the final of the Premier Division Cup.
Not for the faint hearted. But for the neutrals, it served up some entertaining moments!
We caught up with manager Drew Scaiffe, who shared his feeling of their monumental season:
“I’m still on cloud nine, it’s been an amazing season. I’m proud that our club has etched its name into the history books. All the hard work has paid off. It doesn’t stop here though; success breeds success and we want more.”
“We’ve got a really solid squad and are becoming a real family club.
There’s a mixture of youth and experience, which is a real benefit. Our youngest player is Blake White at 17 years old, and of course we all know about Strutty, 48 and still plugging away. He started his Sunday league journey before some of the lads were born.”
Kings United are the longest standing team in the League after being formed in 2010.
“I’M STILL ON CLOUD NINE, IT’S BEEN AN AMAZING SEASON, I’M PROUD THAT OUR CLUB HAS ETCHED IT’S NAME INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS.”
DREW SCAIFFE - KINGS UNITED MANAGER
It’s fair to say there have been a few ups and downs along the way.
Manager Drew Scaiffe proudly states that “We’ve never missed a game through not being able to field a team. We’ve always fulfilled a fixture, even if it means we play with the minimum of 7.”
“We were very nearly kicked out of the league 2 years ago for poor discipline, which was well documented. However, with my passion for Kings United and for Sunday League football, I fought to save us and drafted in Lee Strutt, (whose 31 years of experience speaks for itself), and Michael McLaughlin as secretary, and promised to turn things around.”
“2 years of hard work on and off the pitch and here we are, proud quadruple winners.”
“It’s my belief we finished mid table in the fair play league too. I’m surprised the Kent FA haven’t gone into liquidation through our lack of fines this season.”
“Jokes aside, we’ve worked closely with the league and we’re all about promoting Sunday football for the greater good.”
“In football you have 90 minutes to win a game and even Sir Alex Ferguson will tell you, you can’t win every game you play!
But to be champions, you not only need to learn how to win, you also have to learn how to handle a loss, because legends aren’t just based on success, it’s how you bounce back from defeat!
If you walk out on that field with passion, integrity and talent, just remember you are only as good as the squad you have around you, if you’re all focusing on the same goal and all pull the strings together, the sky’s the limit to how much success you can achieve!
And most importantly never give up and always believe!”
Lastly, Kings United would like to thank their sponsors Kalooki Racing, SD Construction, and Tim Wood from the Holy Grail that is the Flying Horse Pub.
Your generous and unwavering support is greatly appreciated.

TYRONE STERLING RETIRED AS A PLAYER AT THE END OF THE 2024/25 SEASON, HE WAS A FAN FAVOURITE AND NOW WORKS ALONGSIDE THE CLUB TO DEVELOP THEIR YOUTH TEAMS WITH CGA FOOTBALL COACHING
Sterling joined The ‘Gate on the 18th of May 2023 and initially became a fan favourite for his personality off the pitch and his performances on it!
Coming into the 2024/25 season Tyrone already had one eye on his career once he hung up his boots, because although he re-signed with Margate as a player, he was also eager to take up a coaching role for this season to help players develop and use all his knowledge of the game to develop Margate FC!
Throughout this season when he hasn’t started on the pitch, Sterling made sure he had an influence on the game and the team by coaching from the sidelines to great effect helping Margate FC reach the playoffs.
So far, ‘T’ has played in 66 games for Margate spanning two seasons and he has been a key part of the dressing room. Margate player/manager, Ben Greenhalgh, said: “When we managed to get Tyrone in last season it was a great signing, and he proved from the moment he walked in how effective someone with his experience was to Margate Football Club. From the outset he became a leader within the changing room but also was key when advice was needed all round.”
“I think we all knew at some point the day would come but he has proved how vital he is to us and how strong his performances have been, getting back-to-back 90 minutes over a bank holiday weekend and beating Beckenham, but most importantly being a key part in such a strong performance in another Thanet derby!”
“I will always remember Tyrone for his sweeper role at Dover. It was a role that had been forgotten about for many years, and we were so surprised to see that Dover would still play one, but I understood why when T seemed to pick up every ball in behind and stop any danger coming up against them.”
“He will be remembered for finishing his career at Margate, but to all of his previous clubs and the world of football, he will never be forgotten!”
Over his whole career, Sterling made 708 total competitive appearances, with the majority coming at Cray (235) and Dover (168). In all those games, he kept 278 clean sheets, and although he wasn’t known for his goal scoring, he did notch up 35 goals.
He also made 16 caps for his country, Grenada, and managed to qualify for the Gold Cup with them in 2021and out of the three games that Grenada played at that international tournament, he played in all three!
PLAYING SO MANY GAMES, IT CAN BE HARD TO PICK A FAVOURITE MOMENT, BUT STERLING FELT PRIDE PUTTING ON THE GRENADA SHIRT FOR THE FIRST TIME, SO THAT STOOD OUT AS HIS CHOICE.
“Representing Grenada and performing on such a grand stage is an incredible honour. Without a doubt, my best moment was playing in a major international tournament for my country.”
“I still vividly remember the feeling of walking out onto the pitch for the first time and thinking of my grandad, who was born in Grenada, moved to the UK, and passed away years before that game.”
“We played against Cuba in a World Cup qualifier, and I just hoped I was making him proud.”
I SPOKE TO TYRONE AND ASKED WHY HE MADE THIS DECISION TO RETIRE AT THE END OF THIS SEASON?
“I’ve been contemplating retirement for some time, and it became clear to me recently that this is the right season to make that decision. My family is my primary motivation— they have sacrificed so much for me, and I want to spend quality time with them.”
“Balancing business, training, and games had become increasingly challenging. Additionally, the number of games I could play each year was taking a toll on my body, and I want to leave the game in good health.”
TWO SEASONS WITH MARGATE, PLAYING IN 66 GAMES, I ALSO ASKED WHAT HIS FAVOURITE MOMENT
“Without a doubt, our record against Ramsgate this year, especially the 4-1 victory on Easter Monday, stands out. I love those moments! I stepped onto the pitch with the mindset of giving our fans the bragging rights they deserve, walking out with pride on our rivals’ ground.”
With a final message to The ‘Gate fans as a player before officially retiring, Sterling said: “One of the key reasons I chose to retire is that I couldn’t think of a better place to conclude my career than at Margate.”
“The fans here are truly the best I have ever encountered. Even during a challenging year last season, you stood by us, lifted us up, and showed unwavering support. I am determined to bring us back to the level you all deserve.”
“Thank you for all your love, kindness, and support. I will never forget it, and I wish you and the club all the best. I have no doubt that I’ll be in the crowd cheering alongside you all one day.”
Tyrone added this message about his new role at the club:
“I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO SUPPORTING THE CLUB FURTHER WITH FUTURE TALENT VIA THE ACADEMY”
“FIRST OF ALL, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED SHRIMPOS FC IN ANY KIND OF WAY. WE HAD A SEASON THAT EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS AND THE SUPPORT WE RECEIVED WAS PHENOMENAL. “
It’s still sinking in that we achieved what we did in our debut season in the Thanet Sunday League, league winners by 7 points with the most goals scored and least conceded, and to add to this accomplishment, we managed to get ourselves into 2 semi-finals.
We had so many highlights through the season. Joe Simpsons rocket free kick into the top bins, Jimmy Duncan’s pace outrunning any defender, our come back in the cup where we were trailing 2-1 with 10 men in the first half to winning the game 4-2, and of course we can’t forget Gareth Rushton’s goalscoring, not only being Shrimpos and division 2 top goalscorer but the top goal scorer in all of the Sunday leagues in Thanet.
I could go through and name every player individually and tell you how they contributed this season because every single player played a part of who we are and what we achieved this season.
The depth in our squad proved to be the difference in our season, which was plagued with injuries throughout. All of our players stepped up, with players being played out of position on many occasions, and for that I am very grateful - grateful that the lads done this with no issues and played with their hearts on their sleeves every time they put on the shirt.
We made some great memories throughout last season, many of them being captured by one of our club sponsors, Mark Austin from MA Photography, who we are very grateful to have as a team member. Mark has run fundraisers for epilepsy society through last season and has
not now set up the Shrimpos Shop where all training kits and kit wear can be purchased by players and supporters.
Now we have been promoted we are looking to build on last year as it gets tougher, stronger, and faster. We have a few key players who have retired this season so there are areas we are looking to strengthen in, so we are going to work hard in preseason and recruit in those areas to be as competitive as we can in next year’s campaign.
After our title winning year we had to get a fresh kit and new sponsor……welcome aboard Evolution Branded Clothing!
Jay has been keeping track on Shrimpos FC’s progress as he knows Stephen’s mum Luisa.
1 PHOENIX BUSINESSS PARK AT BOTTOM THE OF THE HORNBYMARGATE B&Q ESTATE
So, when we approached him, he was more than happy to be involved with the team for next season.
With Jays generous sponsorship we are able to have a full kit for the 25/26 season.
FOR YOUR ALL
We have a few designs to choose from, and they all look great - it’s just about narrowing it down until we find a winner.
Everyone in Thanet is familiar with the wind farms, gently whirling away just off our shoreline producing green energy, but how often do we think about the teams that work long hours to keep them turning? At Belmont Accommodation, the answer to that question is every day.
Belmont Accommodation’s research told them that crews working on the windfarms had accommodation needs beyond hotels and holiday lets. Coming from an engineering and fire service background, they found they could relate to crews, having both worked long shifts and stayed away from their home, and wanted to improve their stay in Ramsgate.
Belmont Accommodation is an everevolving serviced accommodation company that focuses on not only the welfare of the workers, but the managers that book them, and the homeowners that let them borrow their homes.
They want to make the crews downtime in between shifts as relaxing and comfortable as possible whilst the recuperate after long shifts out at sea. They pride themselves on having properties of a great standard and providing a ‘home from home' experience including welcome baskets.
Once a company books with Belmont, all the crew needs to do is arrive, have a cuppa, relax and let the team take care of the rest. Proud Sponsors of Margate FC - Under 12’s for the last two seasons
DESPITE A SLOW START TO THIS SEASON’S CAMPAIGN, MARGATE U23S HAVE CONTINUED TO DEVELOP AND PROGRESS, WITH A CLEAR PLAYING PHILOSOPHY THAT HAS BEEN ADAPTED FOR THIS VERY YOUNG SQUAD FROM LAST YEAR’S SOUTHERN COUNTIES EAST LEAGUE WINNING ONE.
TUR HOXHA MANAGER
Having lost the first two games of the season, they went on an U23 club record twelve-match unbeaten league and cup run, gaining confidence and improving individual and team performances.
With this being a development league, our aim and remit is to harness the skills of the players with an understanding of the different expectations, and what can be for some players, a difficult transition from youth to adult football.
We have given opportunities to those players who we feel have the skill, mindset, and professional attitudes to succeed with trials at first team clubsand indeed several have already been making an impact in our own.
All the players in this year’s squad have maintained an excellent work ethic in training and match days, which has led them to a very good league position, finishing fourth behind some more older and experienced teams. This squad also made it to the Kent Intermediate Cup Final, and despite leading twice, had to settle for a draw and narrowly losing out on penalties.
We are losing from the club this season, coaches Paul Meade and Chris Mills, who have both been an integral part to so many young players, and we wish them well in their retirement from football.
We would like to therefore welcome on board Paul Lamb.
We would like to thank first team manager Ben Greenhalgh, the club for everything they have done for us this season, and all the supporters that have attended our games. It’s been incredible for an U23s team and has made for a fantastic journey that the players are most appreciative of.
Margate FC U23 Manager
Surely we couldn’t match last year’s success of one team being runners up in the main event and the others being runners up in the Plate. This time we went with a group of 20, the largest ever, and had departed with the hope of fielding 3 teams. However, injuries and illness saw us decide to have two 8-man squads for the 5 aside, ten minutes each way, games. To succeed this year would be even harder as there were more teams in the tournament, 14 - with 8 British and the rest expats and Portuguese - while both our teams had key players not anywhere near fully fit. So, after a couple of days acclimatising, we began the tournament on Friday with Sporting Ramsgits Yellows in Group A captained by Phil Moody, and Sporting Ramsgits in Group B led by Tim Mather. The Yellows got 7 points from their 4 group games, winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 1, while the Sporting Ramsgits also qualified for the QF’s, with 5 points from a win, 2 draws, and a defeat. Phil Moody scored all 4 of the Yellows goals, while Robbie Shepherd and Simon Addley hit one each for the Sporting Ramsgits. The QF’s were now part of a straight knock out competition - and the Yellows faced tough opponents in Group A winners Quarteirense, with whom they had played out a tough 0-0 draw the previous day. Again, nothing separated the teams as another resolute defensive performance kept the Yellows goal intact. So, to the dreaded penalty shootout which saw both Mick Moody and Barry Cooper hit the back of the net to give the Yellows a 2-1 victory. The Sporting Ramsgits also faced tough expat opponents in Tavira, and a Robbie Shepherd goal gave them a 1-0 win. Unfortunately, this was as good as it got as the Yellows came up against Olhao, last year’s champions
and the eventual winners of this tournament. They beat us comfortably 3-0 while the Sporting Ramsgits, in a much tighter game, took Odiaxere to penalties before going down 2-0. So, to the final match for the third-place trophy between the two Ramsgate sides. A fiercely fought tussle ended goalless with the Yellows edging it 3-2 on penalties, with the Moody brothers and Barry Cooper netting for the Yellows, while Pete Cherry and Richard Kebbell scored for the Sporting Ramsgits, before Yellows keeper, Rob Pugh, saved the third Sporting Ramsgits penalty. At the Presentation Ceremony it was great for the club to receive the third-place trophy and for the goals and overall performances of Phil Moody to earn him the Most Valuable Player award. To get both teams into the semi-finals shows both the quality and depth the club has - and none of the other 6 British teams got as far in the tournament, so that is a creditable achievement. It was also nice out in Portugal to see Margate’s Frankie Empson as one of the ref’s and performing so well.
Once again, the social side of the trip was fantastic, and Browns really is a top venue for such an event - with a great Sports Bar showing European and Premier League games. We had two nights out in Vilamoura and had an afternoon at Foot Golf, which Steve Post organised. There was plenty of beer and banter as always, and we as a club are very fortunate that both Simon Addley and Rob Cheshire are excellent organisers prepared to put the time and effort in to make sure the trip goes ahead and proceeds smoothly. Thanks lads. Up the Gits for 2026.

Going into the game we were full of confidence, having not lost a game in the league since September and winning our last 2 finals. Macies started the game the better team and had a goal disallowed early on. After a goalless first half and both keepers making saves, we made a few changes to try and swing the game in our favour. Both teams were pushing to get ahead in the second half and unfortunately for us Macies went 1-0 up. After Dean made a great save, the ball fell to their player on the line for a tap in. But we pushed on and grabbed an equaliser very quickly - through a kick up field from Dean, taken down by Steven, putting Dan through, who rolled it to Lukasz, who then slotted it into the Macies net. The game could have had a winner with both teams creating chances but straight to penalties we went. Arrows stepped up first and slotted home to put the pressure on Macies. Even with Dean going the right way for the first 3 the penalties it continued to 7-7 - and Jim stepped up and converted to make it 8-7. Macies stepped up and missed, so the arrows are the Division 1 cup winners for 2025! Making it 4 trophies in 5 seasons. Dean Dillon was awarded man of the match, but Jack Beeston was also a stand out player in the game and was a very close
contender. Looking back on the season just gone, a few results cost us finishing higher in the league, but we can’t complain at a 3rd place finish and a trophy to go with it. Next season we want to build on our end of season form and have a real push to win the league - and hopefully pick up another cup competition along the way.
OVER THE RECENT MAY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND, TSC FOOTBALL ACADEMY EMBARKED ON THEIR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED 2025 HOLLAND TOUR, TAKING PART IN THE RENOWNED DUTCH SOCCER YOUTH CUP IN ROTTERDAM.
Between the 23rd and 26th of May, more than 75 young players, representing seven TSC teams from Under-7s to Under-12s, competed against top-level opposition from across Europe, including professional academies and elite grassroots setups.
Supported by a team of 10 dedicated TSC coaches, the group travelled via ferry from Dover on the Friday, settling in at Molecaten Park Bosbad Hoeven – a family-friendly resort that provided the perfect base for rest and recovery between fixtures.
The Dutch Soccer Youth Cup is one of Europe’s most prestigious international youth tournaments, attracting academy and grassroots clubs from across the continent. Held annually in the Netherlands, it offers high-quality competition on professional-standard pitches, giving young players a taste of elite tournament football in a supportive, well-organised environment. Hosted in the region of Rotterdam, the event combines sport and culture, making it a perfect fit for ambitious clubs like TSC Football Academy seeking development both on and off the pitch. This was TSCs debut appearance at the Dutch Cup, there was much anticipation prior to the tournament with every player having a brand-new bespoke kit package for the event as well as travel attire all provided by the generosity of the sponsors.
THE TOURNAMENT KICKED OFF – WITH PERSISTENT RAIN FROM THE OUTSET ON DAY ONE. DESPITE THE TESTING WEATHER, THERE WERE NO COMPLAINTS FROM THE TSC BOYS, WHO SHOWED EXCEPTIONAL RESILIENCE AND ENTHUSIASM THROUGHOUT.
Two teams took to the pitch in the morning session, with the remaining five battling it out in the afternoon.
Results on Day One were nothing short of impressive. Peter’s team and Harry’s side topped their respective groups to progress to the prestigious Gold Finals. They were joined by Adam’s and Alex’s teams, who also progressed to the top-tier knockout stages. Meanwhile, the teams led by George, Joe, and Anthony earned well-deserved places in the Silver Finals, underlining the high standard across all TSC Football Academy Teams.
After a demanding day at the tournament, coaches, players and their families spent the evening unwinding at the accommodation in preparation for what was set to be an action-packed finals day.
TSC Operations Manager reflects on this years tour“THIS TOUR WAS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR PLAYERS TO EXPERIENCE FOOTBALL ABROAD AND GROW BOTH ON AND OFF THE PITCH. TAKING OUR SECONDLARGEST TOURING GROUP TO DATE WAS A PROUD MOMENT FOR US, AND IT’S SOMETHING WE’RE EAGER TO BUILD ON AS WE LOOK AHEAD TO PREPARATIONS FOR THE 2026 TOUR..”
WITH AN EARLY START FOR ALL, SPIRITS WERE HIGH, AND THE WEATHER FINALLY BEGAN TO TURN IN THE PLAYERS’ FAVOUR.
The morning session saw Joe’s, Anthony’s, and George’s teams compete in the Silver Finals. Joe’s side delivered a standout performance going on to win the Silver Final, congratulations to Joes award winning players (Joie Wood, Rez Gardner & Harry Hunter). George’s team proudly secured the bronze medal in the Silver Cup after an excellent run of fixtures.
In the afternoon, the Gold Finals provided a tough test for the four qualifying TSC teams – led by Alex, Harry, Adam, and Pete. While the top prize proved out of reach for them this time, their performances were full of character, teamwork, and learning –all vital components of their development journey.

Alex Fitzjohn, Director of Elite Programmes, reflected on the weekend with pride: “THIS YEAR’S HOLLAND TOUR WAS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHAT TSC IS ALL ABOUT –OPPORTUNITY, DEVELOPMENT, AND LIFELONG EXPERIENCES. THE STANDARD OF FOOTBALL WAS OUTSTANDING, BUT JUST AS IMPRESSIVE WAS THE ATTITUDE AND TOGETHERNESS OF OUR PLAYERS, COACHES, AND FAMILIES. WHETHER IT WAS DEALING WITH TORRENTIAL RAIN OR TAKING ON SOME OF THE BEST YOUTH TEAMS IN EUROPE, OUR BOYS STEPPED UP. THESE ARE THE MOMENTS THAT SHAPE YOUNG PLAYERS – ON AND OFF THE PITCH.”
TSC Football Academy’s international tours have become a rite of passage for young players, with over a decade of unforgettable trips to destinations like Camber Sands, Belgium, and Barcelona. These tours are eagerly marked in the calendars of players and parents alike, blending top-level football competition with priceless team bonding experiences.
Plans for the 2026 tour are already underway, with announcements expected later this year. Keep an eye on TSC’s social channels for updates and registration info.
A trip like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the sponsors. TSC would like to extend a huge thank you to the following organisations for backing the players & Coaches, helping make lifelong memories:
THE COW SHED
THANET FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

BAYPOINT FC ARE PROUD OF THEIR FRAME FOOTBALL TEAM AND THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS. IN THIS ISSUE WE LEARN MORE ABOUT THE TEAM FROM ROB STONES (TEAM MANAGER), JACK RICHARDS (HEAD COACH) JOURNEY AND THE TEAM’S ACHIEVEMENTS AND THEIR AIMS.
We are pleased to introduce our Frame Football Coach, Jack Richards. Here is his story so far, we know he has a bright coaching future ahead of him.
I started my coaching journey around the age of 14, helping out at my old primary school, which started off my experience in football coaching where I won a National award for my coaching.
For the next couple of years I took at break, whilst I focused on playing football as I was on the England CP pathway. Following this break, the Baypoint frame football/ CP team started in 2022 and I renewed my coaching credentials and have been coaching the team ever since, which I really enjoy.
IN MAY 2025, THE TEAM COMPETED AT FULHAM FC LONDON IN WHAT WAS A FANTASTIC FESTIVAL OF FRAME FOOTBALL.
TEAM MANAGER - ROB STONES (RIGHT) & JACK RICHARDS (LEFT)
Rob gives his appraisal of the season, the teams ethos and future plans:
"What a great season we have had this year, including travelling up to St George’s Park, the home of English football, to try to defend our title as national champions (alas, we didn’t do it this time but we do get to try to win this back in September!)"
This has been a very exciting year for Baypoint Frame Football team and we have ended this season with a lot to be excited about for next season.
After months of hard work and building on the relationships we have fostered with other frame football teams nationally throughout this year and during previous years, I am delighted to announce that, in collaboration with CP Sport, we have secured funding from the FA to create a new national Frame Football Youth League!
I have always thought (and the team have always made clear to me!) that competition is what drives them, and this season has seen a massive effort to get teams from all corners of the UK to commit to playing one another more regularly. This had been my number one priority this year, as competing is what football is all about and Frame footballers are not afraid of any challenge! The response from other teams and managers has been very positive and has led to the creation of club competition days, where teams host multiple other teams at their venues for the day to give the teams the chance to complete regularly and put all of that training into effect!
With less teams locally than mainstream football, travel is the big hurdle to overcome because teams can often be hundreds of miles away from each other. If we want to
complete it takes effort and commitment to do so. Luckily our team is blessed with committed parents and guardians who will travel the extra mile (or miles!) for the players and so our team will be playing plenty of competitive matches in the near future!
The competition days have gathered momentum, and we are very excited about the new league which is in the process of being organised and which we are seeking to pilot for the 25/26 season. Watch this space!
Baypoint FC is interested to hear form all frame footballers out there! If you use a frame for any part of daily life get in touch! Frame football is a fantastic opportunity to make friends and play football and is a great way to spend a Saturday morning and can improve fitness and mental health. We cater for ages 3 years to 16 years of age. We meet every Saturday 9-10am.

ROB LYNN CLUB SECRETARY
Last season the club entered two teams in the Kent Walking Football League, our home games are played at Baypoint Sports Club, and we travel as far as Ashford for away games. The Strollers are affiliated to the Kent FA which is a requirement to enter the league, we’ve installed specific roles, for example, a welfare officer has been selected to meet league requirements. The Strollers are looking to affiliate to Baypoint FC which will provide a larger support network for the team. This will open up more opportunities to grow.
We can’t echo enough that It’s not just about the football, there are massive benefits both physically & mentally. It brings players together from all backgrounds to play the slower version of the beautiful game.
In addition to playing, the club have an active social element which includes meetings, quizzes & charity events. The team centre their fundraising efforts around Prostate Cancer UK and host an annual charity Walking Football event in memory of their past club captain, Peter Cadogan who passed away in 2022. Last year, over £700 was raised for Prostate Cancer. This year’s event is happening on Sunday 3rd August at Baypoint (between 11-1pm), we’d like to thank Baypoint Sports Centre who have very kindly waived their pitch fees and are providing after match food.

WE’VE HAD THE BOYS TOGETHER SINCE THEY WERE 4. I STARTED AT HARTSDOWN PARK TAKING MY BOY TO SOCCER SCHOOL AND NEVER REALISED FOR A MINUTE IT WOULD TURN INTO SOMETHING THAT TAKES OVER 99.9% OF MY LIFE - IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE.
If I am being honest, I’ve had my pick of the talent. Myself and Jake Smith knew each other through Sunday league, me playing for the mighty Albys, Jake playing for a rubbish team [lol].
Watching our boys play some sort of football, it all fell together. Even at 4-5 years old we knew we had some special players. Jake and myself got the boys together – we never coached but were just trying to teach the boys football in the way we thought was right.
There have been many highs, and some lows, but what has been maintained through it all is that these boys are an amazing team. They have created more than just a football team; they’ve created a football family. Last summer they played in 3 tournaments, winning the Deal Town tournament, not losing a game, and in the Herne Bay Harriers tournament, again not losing a game. In the Maidstone United tournament, the boys won in their age group. The boys are playing up a year again - last season Margate under 8’s played in the Faversham district under 9’s, group 2 out of 8 - and more than holding their own. They show what football is. We, as parents, do football and all social events together, so football-wise the boys have created a family. Thanet is blue and these boys will go on and do some very good things, mark my words.
THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER, AND FOR MANY FAMILIES IN THANET, THAT MEANS ONE THING; DAYS SPENT ENJOYING OUR BEAUTIFUL COASTLINE. FROM BUILDING SANDCASTLES ON MARGATE SANDS TO PADDLING IN THE SHALLOWS AT VIKING BAY, THE BEACH OFFERS ENDLESS FUN. BUT WITH THE EXCITEMENT OF SUN, SEA, AND SAND, IT’S EASY TO OVERLOOK SOME CRUCIAL SAFETY ADVICE.
That’s why we caught up with Ian Lockyer, a dedicated RNLI Water Safety Adviser and a familiar face to many in the local community. When he’s not passionately supporting Margate FC from the terraces at Hartsdown Park, you’ll find Ian on the sidelines of the Saturday Morning Football Club, enthusiastically coaching the Year 2s. It’s a role he finds incredibly rewarding, nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the game. But Ian’s commitment to the well-being of our community extends beyond the football pitch. As an RNLI Water Safety Adviser, he’s passionate about ensuring everyone enjoys our coastline safely.
“LIVING BY THE SEA IS A PRIVILEGE, BUT IT ALSO COMES WITH RESPONSIBILITIES. WE WANT EVERYONE TO HAVE A FANTASTIC TIME AT THE BEACH, AND A LITTLE BIT OF KNOWLEDGE CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN KEEPING YOUR FAMILY SAFE.”
SO, AS WE GEAR UP FOR THOSE SUNNY DAYS BY THE SEA, IAN HAS SHARED SOME ESSENTIAL, YET OFTEN OVERLOOKED, BEACH SAFETY TIPS FOR FAMILIES >>>
This might seem obvious, but distractions happen. Always supervise children closely near the water, even if it’s shallow. It only takes a moment for them to get into trouble. Never assume someone else is watching your child and make sure someone is keeping an eye on them at all times.
The sea can be unpredictable. Be aware of tides, currents, and waves. Check the tide times before you go and be mindful of how the tide can quickly change. Even on a calm day, rip currents can form unexpectedly. Know what to do if you get caught in one - stay calm, don’t swim against it, and swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the current.
Even in the summer, the sea temperature can be surprisingly cold, especially after prolonged sunshine on land. Cold water shock can affect anyone, regardless of their fitness level. Enter the water slowly to allow your body to acclimatise. Gasping, rapid breathing, and difficulty controlling your movements are all signs of cold water shock. Take your time entering the water and avoid jumping straight in.
If you are in trouble in the water, our advice is clear: Float to Live. Lean back, using your arms and legs to stay afloat. Control your breathing, then call for help or swim to safety if you can.
Remember the basics of sun safety: Apply high-factor sunscreen regularly, wear a hat and sunglasses, and stay hydrated. Sunburn can ruin a day at the beach and increase the risk of heatstroke.
Ian’s passion for both water safety and his local community shines through. Just as he encourages his young footballers to work as a team and look out for each other, he urges families to do the same at the beach. “A safe day at the beach is a happy day,” he smiles, no doubt already looking forward to cheering on the ‘Gate next season.
So, as you pack your buckets and spades this summer, remember Ian’s simple yet vital advice. By being aware of the risks and taking a few precautions, you can ensure a memorable and safe trip to our beautiful Thanet coastline.

KINGS UNITED REGAINED THE PREMIER DIVISION TITLE IN STYLE WITH A 100% RECORD WINNING ALL TWELVE OF THEIR FIXTURES CONCEDING JUST NINE GOALS AND SCORING AN IMPRESSIVE 53 GOALS.
TWS Cramptons finished as runners-up, just a point ahead of Counting House. Windmill finished their first season in the Division in 4th place ahead of Lanthorne on goal difference. 19th Hole and Frames United occupied the two relegation places, the former folding at the end of the season with Frames United looking to regroup in the First Division next season.
Hussar claimed the First Division title having missed out the previous season, they won 14 of their 18 matches and were prolific in front of goal as they notched 53 goals across their 18 games. Lesters Athletic took runnersup spot as they finished 6 points behind the champions. A solid season for Red Arrows saw them finish third which was just one point ahead of Monkton. Easy Scaff’s first season in the league saw them finish in 5th place whilst Macies finished 6th.
Westgate Social Club’s debut season was a creditable one as they ended up 7th and FC Inter Westgate took 8th place. Westwood and Northwood will drop down to the Second Division after they finished in the relegation places.
A season to remember for Shrimpos as they ended their first season in the League as Champions of the Second Division, they lost just one match on their way to the title and finished seven points clear. A fantastic turnaround at Garden Bar saw them end the previous season rock bottom of the division but some new signings propelled the side into runners-up place and promotion to the First Division.
Holman Carpentry also had a superb season; a late run of victories took them into the third place. Franklins finished fourth which was just one point behind Holman. Sandwich Town finished 5th whilst The Vale ended up 6th. Thanet Athletic were 7th in the table and Prince Albert ended their first season in 8th one place above Aussie Arms who finished bottom.
