s the majority of Illinoisans receive the COVID vaccine, our library hopes to fully return to pre-pandemic operations. Here’s what you can expect from us starting this fall: • Full services gradually will be reintroduced • All seating has been reintroduced • In-person events and classes will resume • Study Rooms and the Meeting Room will reopen to Tinley Park Public Library cardholders.
As always, we encourage you to follow CDC guidelines. For the safety of patrons and staff, we appreciate your continued use of face masks. Additionally, two services that are much beloved by our community— our monthly Magazine Giveaway and
Library Card Sign-Up Month September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. Show us your Tinley Park Public Library card in September to receive a fun giveaway when you stop by the Checkout Desk! Don’t have a card? Residents living in incorporated Tinley Park or Orland Hills can apply for a library card on our website or visit the Checkout Desk with proof of residency such as your driver’s license or state ID. It will only take a few minutes to open the door to many new and exciting adventures!
Our monthly Magazine Giveaway is a great opportunity for those who scrapbook or use magazines for art projects—on the first Saturday of every month, we place discarded magazines on a table in our lobby. The table will remain until all materials are gone or three days have passed.
Community Shredding Event The Friends of the Library are excited to announce that the Community Shredding Event is back by popular demand and will take place on Saturday, September 25 at 9 am. Drive up to the North Parking Lot of the 80th Avenue Metra Station to shred your sensitive papers and documents. For more details, see page 23.

The LEGO Trains Are Back!

W
e’re thrilled to be hosting the Northern Illinois LEGO Train Club’s exhibit once again! It’s been three years since LEGO enthusiasts both young and young-at-heart have been able to be a part of this fun experience here at the library. Everyone of all ages is welcome to marvel at these creative LEGO displays. Connected by LEGO trains, these sprawling cityscapes of original designs are astonishing in scope and infused with fun details. The NILTC is an adult LEGO enthusiast group of 25 active members who enjoy designing, building, and displaying LEGO creations for the public in a variety of design categories, including LEGO Town, Space, City, Castle, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. For the continued safety of patrons and staff, we are offering limited-attendance time slots for viewing. Visit tplibrary.me/events to sign up for a viewing time. For individuals and families with sensory processing sensitivities, we are dedicating an additional viewing time on Sunday from 11-12 pm. Registration is required.

Reserve time at our Conversion Station to turn your home movies, photos, films, and music into digital formats that are easy to share with your friends and family. Community Shredding Event Sat, Sep 25 • 9–11 am 80th Ave Train Station—North Lot 80th Ave & 179th St Drive up and shred your sensitive papers and documents. A maximum of two standard-sized paper boxes filled with your sensitive papers (bank statements, bills) is allowed per vehicle. Approximate dimensions: 16” x 8” x 12”. Plastic bags are NOT accepted. Shredding representatives will remove the boxes from your car, take them to the shredding truck, and shred them on site. No signup required.
