Dear Members, Spring flowers and warmer temperatures are on the horizon. As we approach mid May remember the Club will be open Memorial Day (Monday, May 30th) and closed on Tuesday, May 31st. Please enjoy reading Jasna Polana’s Spring Newsletter which highlights happenings in each department. Although this winter was mild compared to the last few years the lack of rain and cooler temperatures in April resulted in a slower recovery from golf course aerification. The rain last week and warmer temperatures have helped the grass grow at a faster rate; therefore the putting greens height of cut will be lowered and the greens will continue to regain their speed. Tees, fairways and approaches will continue to fill in and gain density. Our first two member events of the year, the Par 3 Challenge and Member Cook-Off were well received and it was a great way to begin the season with each event having a record number of participants. With an enhanced menu, both Easter Brunch and Mother’s Day Brunch received positive comments from those in attendance. During TPC Network Conferences Jasna Polana received several acknowledgements through the PGA TOUR/TPC Network for 2015. Below are awards and achievements our team has earned with your support.

2015 Awards & Achievements TPC Network Platinum Award Winner (Golf Course Maintenance) TPC Network Platinum Award Winner (Golf Operations) TPC Network Platinum Award Winner (Overall Club Operations) AGM Platinum Award Winner (Top 100 Golf Shops in America) GRAA Top 50 Golf Range Winner (Private Category) GCSAA/Golf Digest’s Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards Winner Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Recognized for very positive Member Survey Scores

We listened to your feedback throughout the year and are happy to introduce the following improvements for 2016 which are in addition to our capital improvements.     

Two New Electric Beverage Carts soon (feedback taken from the Member Survey) Thursday Complimentary Valet (Complimentary Valet available Thursday – Saturday) Ladies’ & Men’s Focus Group (created in 2015 to provide feedback on member events) Poured 12,000 pounds of Techniseal product between pavers in Main Courtyard (provide better walking surface) Healthier Menu Offerings including a more robust Gluten Free and Vegetarian offering

*Note: the 2016 member survey will be launched in June. We appreciate the members’ feedback so please be on the lookout for communications regarding the survey. Safety continues to be a priority at TPC Jasna Polana and we seek the help of members and their guests in sustaining a safe environment. Please be mindful of the 15 MPH Speed Limit throughout the length of the driveway but particularly approaching hole #2 and the bag drop area. To assist with safety efforts, the golf course maintenance team has trimmed trees and brush left of hole #2 as carts cross over the bridge for better viewing of oncoming traffic. The golf course maintenance team also wears green reflective vests when working along the entrance and driveway to be more visible to drivers. Our employee safety committee continues to target areas and implement plans in which there is a need for safety adjustments. Join me as we wish our long-time Marketing Assistant, Kira Provenzano all the very best as she is relocating with her fiancé to the Boston area. Kira has been instrumental in providing member relations as well as assisting our members with our new technology platforms. As we will miss Kira I am excited to announce Erin Taylor as our new Marketing Assistant. Erin is a recent graduate from Penn State University with a degree in Strategic Communications specializing in Public Relations & Advertising. Erin is from the New Hope, PA area and is excited to join the Jasna family. In conclusion, I would like to thank the members for their ongoing support of the Club. I would also like to thank the TPC Jasna Polana staff for their passion in providing a quality product and exceptional service to our members and guests. Sincerely,

Chad J. Fleming Chad J. Fleming General Manager / Director of Golf

Spring Aerification The winter of 2016 was very mild with just one major snow storm affecting the Princeton area. Following spring aerification, the golf course is well positioned for another memorable year! Greens, tees and fairways were aerified and topdressed in late March. Topdressing is a key component in managing creeping bentgrass in our region. The sand helps dilute a buildup of organic matter in the root zone so that surfaces drain better.

If we take a close look at sand particles, we’ll see that they are generally round in shape and allow for ample pore space in between the particles. The pore space allows oxygen and water to reach the roots more efficiently. The particles also help smooth out the putting surface and protect vulnerable plant crowns from being damaged by foot traffic and mowers. When soil temperatures reach 55˚F consistently, creeping bentgrass will begin growing more vigorously and will recover fully from aerification. Thank you so much for your patience as we make necessary preparations for the spring and summer.

Course Care – Part of the Game Regardless of your handicap, good golf etiquette is always in style and should be an integral part of your round at TPC Jasna Polana. A player can easily complete a 4-hour round and still set an example in good course care for fellow players.

1. Please respect the playing surface close to the green. Return your golf cart to the cart path within 30 yards of the green. There’s no reason why carts need to be any closer to the putting surfaces. 2. After hitting your shot from a bunker, rake all disturbed sand smoothly as a courtesy to the players behind you. 3. Divots – either replace it if it’s intact or fill it with divot sand. The important thing is to do something - an ignored divot will take twice as long to heal. 4. Ball-marks – seek them out and repair them. As a reminder, here is the healthiest way to fix your ball-mark.

2016 Spring Projects and Capital Items

Spreading AllGro in roughs

#16 Player tee addition

Poa plugging – Year 5

The mild start to the year has allowed us to tackle a number of important on-course projects that will enhance your experience in 2016. AllGro fine compost was spread in the roughs in early March. AllGro is 100% organic and locally made. It is essentially food for soil microorganisms. If we feed these microorganisms, the soil will be richer and the roughs will have improved drought and heat tolerance – this means deeper rooting and improved density on the surface. The new Player tee on #16 will be ready for regular tee marker rotation in late May, once the new sod is fully rooted. It will provide a challenging new angle to the short par 4. Removing all specks of poa annua from our creeping bentgrass greens is a tedious task, but thanks to the team’s efforts over the last four years, this semi-annual project has become easier with each passing year. Our goal is to remove all poa annua from all golf course greens by June 1st. Pure bentgrass greens will roll more truly and perform much better during the heat and humidity of the summer. Other spring projects include drainage installation in various locations throughout the course, sodding to improve the appearance of teeing areas and selected fairways, and final grading/seeding of mounds to the left of #14 fairway to block the view of Rt.206. 2016 capital items include the installation of a mix/load station in the Golf Course Maintenance facility to help improve the efficiency of our spray applications, new fuel pumps, a walk-behind rotary brush, and irrigation well improvements. With so much activity already taking place during the first four months of the year, 2016 is off to a great start! I hope to see you on the course enjoying the spring weather very soon. Be sure to follow all of the behind-the-scenes work at TPC Jasna Polana via Twitter. Our account has over 1,400 followers including several of our Members and a South African by the name of Gary Player.

Meet the New Pro’s Dylan Malafronte, Assistant Golf Professional. Dylan comes to us from Tampa Bay, Florida. He is a graduate of the Professional Golf Management program at Florida State University. Dylan brings a wealth of knowledge from Carrollwood Country Club where he was a 2015 Professional National Championship Qualifier. (The PNC is the avenue PGA Professionals take to qualify to play in the PGA Championship.) Dylan is very passionate about sports and a superb player and teacher.

Sam Soots, Assistant Golf Professional. Sam comes to us from Winston Salem, North Carolina. Sam has been working in the golf business for over 5 years and brings to us his experiences from Sedgefield Country Club and Queens Harbor Golf Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. He is very passionate about growing the game and enjoys teaching and playing golf with members. Both of these young men are very excited to be at TPC Jasna Polana and are eager to grow relationships with all of you. Please don’t hesitate to say hello if you see a new face walking around or if you stop in the Golf Shop.

Course Care & General Decorum: I would hope that basic golf course etiquette would prevail at our club but unfortunately that is not always the case. I need your help in the following areas to assist us in providing you the daily conditioning expectations and ambiance that we would all like to experience. Please inform your guest of the following rules and regulations before they arrive, as this will assist in preventing a possible embarrassing situation. 1. Fix your ball mark and at least one other. 2. Fill your divots with the sand provided. 3. Rake your bunkers, enter and exit from the low point only. Do not walk up the face of any bunker. 4. Carts are to be kept in the fairway or on the cart path. Only cross the rough to enter or exit the golf hole. There should never be a cart in a native grass area. 5. Proper golf dress code. Denim or cargo shorts are not permitted. Please be sure all golf shirts are tucked in. Corporate Gifts and Golf Shop Specials TPC Jasna Polana’s Golf Shop is able to assist our members with more than just their golfing needs. We can help members with corporate gifts such as: beach towels, glassware, jewelry, staff shirts, luggage, electronics, and much more. Since we are a part of the PGA TOUR, we often get preferred discounts and better pricing than other stores. Give us the chance to be your one-stop shop and service provider. The TPC Jasna Polana Golf Shop always has a sale going on which may include golf shoes, bags, balls, gloves, and men’s and/or women’s apparel. Dear Members, As winter was quiet on the golf side of the club, Food and Beverage has been very busy. We had great turnouts for our Italian Night in January as well as Caribbean Night in February. In March we had our first ever Gastro Pub Night and the always popular Build your Own Burger Tuesdays in April. As Spring is here we are excited to start to see bloom in our vegetable garden. We are already hard at work making changes to the ala carte menus. Our focus this year is on creative, healthy, but flavorful menu options. It is increasingly clear that this is the direction our membership would like us to move. Below are two examples of recent salad additions to the menu. This healthy lifestyle option is something that will become increasingly more evident during our golf events as well as on our Beverage Carts. Cheers, Jason Miller
