FITTING PROCEDURE

 E Remove rear bumper (2 screws along perimeter of each wheelarch, 1 screw at each bumper tip, 2 screws securing lower edge of bumper to undertray at each side, 3 plastic push-in clips along lower edge, screws behind plastic caps in boot opening (2 on Saloon, 4 on Tourer Estate). Disconnect reversing sensors if fitted).  Lower rear exhaust silencer from its hangers. Remove heat shield (4 bolts). Remove and discard bumper impact beam (Hand to customer for retention if towbar is later removed).  Loosely attach towbar (A) to existing threaded fixings on rear panel using bolts (K) with heavy duty washers (N) under the bolt heads. Note: On models with undertray, mark around and remove section for the central drop plates on towbar (A).  Insert side arms (C) & (D) into open ends of vehicle chassis (Insert at an angle and rotate to vertical position) and loosely attach to the existing holes in the base of the chassis using bolts (J) with heavy duty washers (M) under the bolt heads.  Loosely attach side arms (C) & (D) to towbar (A) using bolts (I) with flat washers (L) under both the bolt heads and nuts.  Attach towbar (A) to central towing eye using bolt (G). Use spacer plates (E) and spacer tubes (O) either side of the towing eye as illustrated. Note: Spacer plates (E) and spacer tubes (O) are intended to be a tight fit and may need tapping into position.  Fully tighten all bolts. Reattach heat shield & rear exhaust silencer to its hanger.  Cut bumper as illustrated. Note the additional cut required when fitting to 4dr Saloon models with the ‘Sport’ bumper. Replace bumper.  Attach towbar neck (B), and electrical mounting plate (EP) to towbar (A) using bolts & nyloc nuts (H). The electrical mounting bracket carries type approval information required by law and must always be fitted as shown. Tighten bolts, ensuring the towball faceplate remains vertical.

When fitting this towbar to a vehicle requiring a type approved towbar, a type approved towball with ‘D’ and ‘S’ values which match or exceed those of the towbar must be fitted. The horizontal distance from the towbar faceplate to the centre of the ball must not exceed 76mm. The vertical distance from the centre of the towball holes to the centre of the ball must not exceed 75mm.
