LETTER FROM THE
editor
Hey Key Clubbers! Here's the long awaited Winter Newsletter that covers both December and January. Not only is this the ninth newsletter of the service year, but it's also my second to last newsletter that I will publish. The service year flew by so fast and I feel like I was just elected yesterday. With that being said, the application to be on the 2022-2023 Key Club Cabinet is officially released and I highly encourage anyone who is interested in furthering their dedication towards Key Club to try out! The past two months have been hectic but we had some of the funnest fundraisers like the Spiderman Movie Fundraiser and Ice Skating Fundraiser. Even with the surge of COVID-19 cases, I would like to thank all of you guys for making continuous efforts in helping our community. But remember that your own physical and mental health should always be prioritized first :) I can't wait to finish off the last month of the service year with a blast! Yours In Service, Erica Jin Erica Jin

51 HOURS When I first went to look for clubs which I could join my first thought was Key Club! I had heard about it since orientation and it sounded so cool to me. Since I was little, I enjoyed taking part in community service events because it feels so rewarding when you help others.
So from the beginning, I knew this club was perfect for me. I got all my friends to join too so we can go to events together. Now when I go to events it’s so much fun! Being with friends while also doing some good for the world is great. Key Club even allowed me to make some new amazing friends. One of my favorite events was NYSoM Halloween Havoc! We were able to help create an amazing time for kids and that made me so happy. If you aren’t in Key Club I highly suggest you join! Without doubt you will always have a great time while also doing good for the world. - Ayleen Maluenda Class of 2025

The annual Big Apple Half Marathon & 5K race took place in Central Park this year! Volunteering duties included assisting at hydration stations, bag check and post-finish amenities amongst other opportunities. “When majority of the runners in the Big Apple Half-Marathon came through the finish line, the gatorade station became so hectic and it was so fun to work through it. We were trying our best to get gatorade and pour it into cups that were flying away, and I thought it was hilarious. It was all worth it as almost all of the marathoners thanked us with a smile.”

With winter and the holiday festivities coming around the corn perfect season to ice skate! Members had the opportunity to live figure skating dreams while supporting a good cause at the same proceeds from the fundraiser went towards amfAR: an internati organization dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV p treatment education, and the advocacy of AIDS-related pub “The Ice Skating Fundraiser was probably one of the best Key Club event that I have ever attended, and I definitely recommend it for literally anyone who wants to get free hours. The best part about the event (and the main reason that I went) was that you got to skate alongside your friends, teach each other, and fall together. If the opportunity ever comes again, I would definitely do it again!”

WITH THE HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SPIDERMAN:
MOVIE, BAYSIDE HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB IS HOSTING A FUN
ON OPENING DAY, DECEMBER 17TH! ALL ATTENDEES WERE ON
TO WATCH THIS THRILLING NEW MOVIE WHILE ALSO SUPPOR CAUSE. ALL PROFITS MADE FROM THIS FUNDRAISER WERE CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS.
THE MOST HYPED MOVIE IN THE YEAR OF 2021! SPIDER-MAN NO WAY HOME CREATED A REMARKABLE CONCLUSION TO END SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING’S TRAGEDY. AS EXCITED AS I WAS, I HAD MY DOUBTS… HOW ARE THEY GOING TO CRAM 3 GENERATIONS OF SPIDER-MAN INTO ONE MOVIE?? BUT I WAS WRONG, THE MOVIE TURNED OUT TO BE GREAT. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, IT WAS A GREAT KEY CLUB FUNDRAISER AND I WAS ABLE TO DONATE TO CHARITY.

chael trains, educates, and employs autistic adults. As chael looked for team members/volunteers to join their ign team, volunteers were required to have conversations people (+proof) to acquire 40 community service hours.
I chose to donate for Luv Michael because it helps autistic adults receive jobs which is statistically very hard and challenging for them. I would definitely donate again because it’s going towards a great cause and it is nice to know that I am changing lives by doing something as simple as donating. - Angelina McCabe '23 As a donor to the Luv Michael foundation, I felt very proud to be able to support such a good cause. I truly admire these people especially since they are educating people on autism. I liked how convenient and accessible it was to form a fundraising page for myself and I would definitely do this again. - Lynn Eo '25

Using BeanBeanBean, I am able to do so by helping to donate to different charities just by answering trivia questions. I would definitely do this event again because it helps those in need in a very accessible way for all.
