Hi Key Clubbies! It’s so great to see everyone back at school after the summer! Although September technically marks the beginning of Fall, the weather was nice and warm, which made for some fun events this month. My personal favorite was the Peace Paddle Festival – the view of the water was gorgeous and I had a great time catching up with friends and spending a Saturday in such a lovely location. We kicked off the year with some awesome events, and there’ll be more great ones to come! Can’t wait to see you all on Thursdays after school, as usual :D Yours in Service, Hasana Abdullah Bulletin Editor '22-'23

Flushing BID Annua

Each year the BID organizes a street festival that includes vendors selling all types of food, entertainment, and raising health and educational awareness. This year’s festival included plenty of exciting activities like face painting, dance and street art performance, Chinese arts and crafts, and music. Everyone enjoyed the games, foods, and spectacular performances.

I had a wonderful time at the Flushin BID Festival, all except for the fact that it was praying for my downfa by making me wake up at unholy hours during the weekend. Besides that, it was great to meet and interact with a lot of people, and regardless of whether that statement is true or false (that I interacted with people), it definitel felt nice to help the community out Plus, you can't complain about free food. 10/10 would definitely do it again.

Peace Paddle Festiv

17th

During the event, everyone worked together to inflate the kayaks and put together the paddles. After, we got to either try kayaking or help organize a shed. I went with the latter and although it was a lot of work, it was a group effort and we managed to finish organizing. The view near the water was very nice and the breeze refreshing and we could see many people trying out the kayaks! Overall, a great experience and would go again if I had the chance!

The Peace Paddle Festival wa fun and engaging events for members down by the wate Gantry State Park. It was inte to learn about how to inflat boats and the concepts of ro the water. After completin duties with setting up the bo registration station, we were test out the waters and row with our friends! I would def recommend trying out this ev least once.

The Autumn Moon Parade was something that I was glad to be at! It was a chance to be surrounded with my culture and learn about how they would celebrate this special holiday. Even though throughout this event there were many confusions and stress being placed upon everyone we all still got the chance to laugh and have some fun! Something that I definitely enjoyed was being able to help out the community making their lives easier yet also seeing everyone having so much fun. This for sure would be an event that I would love to attend to help out.

During the Walk4Hearing event, volunteers passed out flower necklaces, mini sunglasses, and slap bracelets to incoming walkers. When the walk officially started, we walked to and back the port. The event was quite laid back, and I would definitely do it again.

Grace Shen, THHS ‘25

Walk4Hearing was a super fun event because of the beautiful scenery at the pier surrounding the Hudson River that was chosen for the walk and the accessory station that volunteers worked at. Volunteers held sunglasses, lei’s and slap bracelets and handed them out to children and adults at the walk. We also decided to walk with the rest of the attendees there which was not only refreshing, but gratifying as we were supporting the Walk4Hearing organization. I would definitely recommend this event again as it was super fun and enjoyable!

NYSOM SUPERHERO

NYSoM's Fall Blockbuster presented their 5th Annual S as different characters from DC Nation, Anime All-Sta while hosting fun activities for the participants.

What I liked about the NYSOM Superhero Festival was the station I v volunteers would dress up as characters from various animes, and p and having to wear the costume (despite not watching anime). It wou Miguel Santos, THHS ‘24

After attending the NYSOM Superhero Festival, I gained a lot of experience when working with people. There were many instances when a person who attended wasn’t fully satisfied. I also learned that teamwork is important when wanting to participate in these type of activities. I had an amazing partner that supported me and the managers of the event were very understanding. I would definitely go again.
