Heyy guys! This month there were many events and many volunteers came! What was special about this month was how different each event was and what a unique experience for the volunteers. We had some events that we had to walk to promote an idea and other events where we were giving out things and helping out.

Additionally, this month we are wrapping up and ordering our key club Hoodies! Lastly, this month we just sent out emails for the members to apply to be apart of our committees: Art and Awards, and Event planning. Hopefully many members decide to apply and be a bigger part of our club! Finally, I hope everyone doesn’t forget to wish their mother, Happy Mother’s Day! D ~ Nancy Jiang 2019’-2020’

Hi Key Clubbers!

Welcome back from Spring Break! The May flowers have bloomed and unfortunately so has AP Season :( Even so, many of you took time away from studying through your weekends to volunteer for TD Bike Tour, raise awareness for HIV/AIDS, and articipate in Passport to Taiwan. I can’t wait to see all of your faces in more events o come, and I hope you guys continue to have fun while helping out in your community!

I’ve been Key club for 3 years so far and this event, the Five Boro Bike Tour, has been my favorite event because you're able to meet a bunch of people from various places in just one event. I’ve met people who travelled from Europe, Asia, South America and many other countries. In addition to meeting people from different backgrounds, there are bikers of all ages who participate in the race.

Events like these, where you directly communicate with others and make their day that much better, whether it's handing out snacks or simply directing them to their next destination, it's always a pleasure.

This year's Bike tour was a bit rainy but it still had its charm. I helped direct bikers to different stations where they were able to receive food and water and then ultimately to the exit where they’d continue on their way to the next borough. I can’t wait to attend my final 5 Borough Bike tour and help out once again. ~ Dawn Lugo

ur was an event where the e able to help out by giving necessities to the bikers as by. This event is a great r volunteers to meet new how other people live and what they do.

We had to ensure the bikers were putting their wrappers and plastic bottles in the right bin. Also, we helped clean up the food sections after the bike tour was finished. Many people litter on the ground or don’t recycle because they think it is to complicated or takes too much time. Some people don’t even know how to say and this is very dangerous because this is our earth it is our job to take care of it. More people should be educated on the importance of recycling. ~ Samaria Bekele

e was surprisingly hard to spot as it was tucked ass building, so upon arrival Cynthia and I had ocation with the security guard. TASTE OF TRIBECA

The Taste of Tribeca Food Festival was a multicultural event that exposed me to all different kinds of food. I gained so much valuable experience from working with my peers and serving the customers at the VIP tent.

We divided the area to take orders and gather the food in a systematic manner which kept things moving efficiently. Volunteering was a great way to help out my community and contribute towards the success of the event, especially because the funds from the event are given to local public schools. I found it amazing how they promote environmental awareness through the reusable water bottles and the emphasis on the public fountains. The experience helped me work on my communication and organization, which are two very fundamental skills for the future. Overall, I really enjoyed being a part of the food festival because it opened me up to cultural cuisines. ~ Isabelle Borgstedt

Pacific Islander Heritage Festival May 19, 2019

Member: Wendy The purpose of this event was to promote different cultures especially focusing on the Pacific Island part.

Purpose of the HIV/ walk is to promote and more people to know other health problems es the other ones that more common. At this people walk for others hese heath problems. onally, at this event the teers are able to meet people who are victims HIV/AIDS or know of eone who has or had HIV/AIDS.

Walking in AIDS Walk was one of my favorite walks of the service year. It was a great opportunity to get out there on a Sunday morning and raise awareness for a very important cause— one that impacts the lives of many individuals and families that are affected by these conditions and diseases. When we first arrived at Central Park, we were immediately joined by countless others, all waiting at the starting line together. While it was certainly crowded, it was a good feeling to know there were so many other supporters standing by our sides. There was also this man handing out balloons for free, which I thought was really nice. I also thoroughly enjoyed this event because it was a good opportunity for me to become closer to members of other clubs, which I wouldn’t have been able to have done without attending this walk. ~ Nikki Ng

HIV/AIDS WALK 14

Passport To Taiwan

Passport to Taiwan was an amazing experience, both as a volunteer and attendees. This was actually the first event in a while that I’ve been to that gave the volunteers both a lot of work to do to help out, and offered a really cool event that brought different people together, as well. I actually went to Taiwan this past summer and it was really cool to see all of the dishes and snacks I found in Taiwan night markets at this NYC festival. Volunteers were able to help assemble and give out various Taiwanese snacks to locals, tourists, and even social media foodies. I definitely would love to come back next year to volunteer again, and I recommend others to do the same. ~ Alexis Dixon

May 25-26, 2019

The purpose of this event was to promote a different culture. At this event unlike the other events they promoted Taiwan. With many different special foods found mainly in Taiwan, this event was like an outdoor restaurant with many different types of food to try. At this event volunteers can make friends and learn about the different foods they never knew originated from Taiwan.

At the Passport to Taiwan event, we helped set up the booths, which included setting up some of the booths.

Each booth had something different to offer, showcasing different aspects of the culture. Once everything was set up, the event started. There were many people going around the booths, it offered an opportunity to talk to different people. At the booth I volunteered at, we created these sweet potato balls. While a small group of us were rolling the balls, we got to talk to volunteers from other schools. Overall, the event was really fun to volunteer at. ~ Elsa Oreen

Passport to Taiwan was a lot of fun.

At first, we helped set up and after a while, we were able to begin cooking. There were many booths that captured different aspects of the culture. At the specific booth that I was helping at, we had to roll dough to make fried potato balls. It was extremely hot that day, but I was able to enjoy it with a couple of my good friends, as well as students from other schools that I was able to become friends with. ~Jessica Jimenez
