E D I T O R HEY KEY CLUBBIES :) Welcome to the third newsletter of the 2021-2022 service year! May introduced a bunch of exciting events including the annual Leadership Training Conference! In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we facilitated an AAPI Game Night Fundraiser and joined AALFY in a Roots of Coalition discussion. Even with the ongoing AP season, I am so proud of all the key clubbers taking part in the new events! Get excited as we approach the summer! Good luck to all AP test takers, I am manifesting perfect scores for everyone <3 Yours In Service, Erica Jin Erica Jin Bulletin Editor '21-'22

"FACILITATING GAME NIGHT WAS REALLY FUN BECAUSE IT MAKE ME REALIZE HOW MEMBERS WERE ABLE TO GET ALONG WITH EACH OTHER AND HAVE FUN TOGETHER. MANY OF THEM DID NOT KNOW EACH OTHER BEFORE, AND WERE FROM DIFFERENT GRADES, BUT THEY HAD A LOT OF TIME AND WERE ABLE TO COLLABORATE ON MANY GAMES. IT REMINDED ME HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE THE FRIENDLINESS OF THE KEY CLUB COMMUNITY." - RUSAYLA HASAN, CLASS OF 2022

Volunteers played a variety of online quizzes to earn "beans" that translated into donations to different charities (Feeding America, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and more).

- HOLLY PAIK (2022) "I really liked beanbeanbean because it was a fun and easy way to indirectly contribute to the world hunger effort. I will admit that it did get pretty frustrating when the beans reset, but I think that aspect made the game more challenging and enjoyable. If this event starts again in the future, I’ll definitely participate and I hope that others will too!!"

- NICOLE CHEN (2023) "Honestly I liked beanbeanbean a lot more than other trivia based charities (such as freerice) mainly because it was a lot easier in terms of reaching the goal for volunteer hours. Although I do like their design more, I think the biggest downside to beanbeanbean was that you were prone to losing beans at any given moment. However, it's not a huge inconvenience in my opinion and it really doesn't take away from my experience, either."

Volunteers will be raising money by walkin
or running, whether it be marching around
the house, running stairs, or going for a jog (if you are jogging outside, be sure to adhere to social distancing!) Each mile is equal to $0.25 donated to charity!
I LOVED CHARITY MILES BECAUSE IT WAS A MOTIVATO R TO GO EXERCISE AND STAY ACTIVE DURING AP SEASON! PERSONAL LY, I RAN OR WALKED MOST OF THE TIME TO MY LOCAL PARK, BUT SOMETIME S I BIKED AROUND MY BLOCK. I WOULD DEFINITE LY DO CHARITY MILES AGAIN IF I HAD THE OPPORTUN ITY TO. - CRYSTAL YANG (2023)

KATE ESTEVEZ CLASS OF 2023 The AALFY event was amazing! They promoted inclusivity, community work, and promotion of mental health. This event was structured broken up into three parts: the panel with the political candidate Jaslin Kaur, workshops, and the closing activity. Everyone had a chance to get involved and speak their opinions. I would definitely do this again.
MELINDA WANG CLASS OF 2024 As an AAPI community advocate and supporter, I enjoyed listening to the speakers and participating in activities with other Asian Americans. In particular, there was one activity where we acknowledged our own names and their meanings. Our names are one of the first things we know when we come into this world and it was heartwarming and fun to speak about them. I would definitely come to this event next year because I felt supported by the community and inspired by the speakers!

Hey y’all I’m so grateful to be the Key Club Member of May! I joined Key Club in my freshman year and I’m so thankful that I joined the time I did. I got to experience in person events before going into quarantine and they were some of the best experiences of my life. I think they really helped to shape my freshman year. I don’t go out often and Key Club really helped me become more outgoing because I would feel incentivized to help my community.
It was amazing to meet and bond with other key club members and other key clubs in our division. Personally, my favorite event was It’s My Park Day because I could see the direct effects of our works. The park was completely transformed, all the leaves were gone, and we got a shirt to keep for memory! I joined the Projects Management Committee to have a larger role in Key Club and so far, it has made me much happier. Key Club made me more motivated and has inspired me to create a change, even if it is the smallest thing in the world. It’s truly a unique experience and I would encourage everyone to be involved in it. Since quarantine started, it’s been harder to connect with people and to Key Club because there aren’t any in person meetings or events. Recently however, I’ve found myself much more involved in Key Club because of the new and fun events. I’m so excited to come back to school and get back to in person events and I encourage everyone to attend those events as well! - Crystal Yang Class of 2023
