Editor's Note Hello Key Clubbies <3 Welcome my fourth newsletter! The longawaited end of the school year is finally here, and with no more exams looming around the corner I hope you've all had the chance to enjoy this amazing summer so far. Almost all of our June events were based outdoors to celebrate the season (and welcome the heat!), so I'm certain everyone has been able to get at least a little bit of sunlight outside!

By far, the most enjoyable event of June was Field Day. I loved meeting Key Clubbers and board members from schools all across Division 8, and I can't wait to organize more events like Field Day in the future! For now, keep up with Key Club's summer events through our new events document, and keep an eye out for my Summer Issue containing a recap of July and August this September! (P.S. - read till the end of this newsletter for a fun surprise!)

Hello Key Clubbies!

Can you believe that school already ended? We had a BUNCH of successful events throughout the month of June, and that is thanks to all of our lovely members <3 Most notably, the Field Day Fundraiser was a huge hit as friends gathered for a chill picnic, played interactive games in the field, and participated in different stations like face painting and listening to the awesome band! As a result, we were able to raise over $1700 for the Governor’s Project: Soles 4 Souls. Other events that deserve a shoutout include the Flushing Meadows Corona Park Cleanup where members helped pull weeds and beautify the local scenery as well as the D8 Volleyball Fundraiser where our two teams played an amazing game. Remember that Key Club does not end in the summer, so continue to come to events and stay updated throughout the summer! And most importantly, have fun!

YAI Central Pa Saturday June 4th YAI's Central Park Challenge was one of the largest events in New York that celebrated people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Each year, this event raises funds vital in YAI's mission to create opportunities for people with I/DD to live, love, work, and learn in their communities. Volunteers helped host the event by setting up booths, assisting at refreshment stations, setting up different activities and more! They had a blast as they joined the community in walking, dancing, playing, and seeing beyond disabilities.

Unfortunately, only two other people came, but the three of us operated a refreshment booth which gave out free snacks/drinks to everybody. We took turns on the shift, so we were able to go to other stalls and it was just a nice time. The weather was really good too, and everyone was pretty nice.

Flushing Meadows Corona Park Cleanup Sunday June 5th

The Environment Project and its partners hosted a clean-up at Flushing Meadows Corona Park's Unisphere. Their mission is to enable participants from across the city and surrounding areas to beautify the park by collecting waste as part of the larger goal of making meaningful change in the community while solving the climate crisis.

The Flushing Meadow Park cleanup was an exciting and interactive event! As someone who has never gone to a cleanup, this gave me a lot of experience with learning not only about the environment but also the park in general and how to use the gardening tools. It gave me a clear understanding of why we should care for our environment and take care of places with plants.

The Sustainable Fashion Community Center helps out communities of advocates, activities, and small business owners through volunteers that sort, hang, and organize clothes. At the end of the session, volunteers had the chance to to swap for free through straight swapping!

Field Day was a collaborative fundraiser between Benjamin N Cardozo, Bayside, Townsend, Francis Lewis, Queens High School for the Sciences, East-West, and Stuyvesant Key Club! Key Clubbers from all over the city took this day to relax, have fun, and hang out.

We played games such as tug of war, egg race, 3 legged dog, water balloon toss, and pop the balloon! A special live concert was also provided. Members had the chance to win prizes for games and express themselves with our free face paint station and tattoos. The most eventful part of the day was the Pay 2 Pie session, where Key Clubbers were able to smash a plate of whipped cream on your fellow board members' faces! Other activities included a bake sale and photo booth.
