NOTICE OF RATE INCREASE REGARDING

WATER / WASTEWATER RATES AND STORMWATER / TRANSPORTATION UTILITY FEES

Dear Town of Severance Resident,

The Town Council adopted all rates and fees in December as part of the 2025 Budget. This letter serves as a 30-day notice to inform you of the Town Council’s rate increases for water, wastewater, and stormwater services that will appear on your February 2025 bill.

Not all properties receive all services. Each applicable service increase is as follows:

The water rate will increase by 5%

The wastewater (sewer) rate will increase by 4%

The monthly stormwater fee will increase by $0.25, from $6.00 to $6.25 per month

The transportation utility fee will remain at $15.50 per month

For accounts on town-provided water, the total of all the new rates and fees is expected to increase a typical single-family home's monthly utility bill (excluding outdoor watering or surcharges for exceeding the allotment) by an average of $5.41 to $10.20.

For those accounts not on town-provided water, the total of all the new applicable rates and fees is expected to increase the typical single-family home's monthly utility bill by an average of $1.64.

For the accounts only billed stormwater and transportation utility fees, the monthly utility bill will increase by $0.25.

Operating costs have increased due to the price of supplies and materials and the treatment costs passed down from the North Weld County Water District. The Town Council is committed to managing those costs and staying efficient while upholding the Town’s commitment to a sustainable future. These changes support the Town Council’s commitment to water conservation, which was established in the Town’s adopted 2017 Municipal Water Efficiency Plan. To help promote conservation efforts, the Town of Severance will continue the water volume tier structure for customers, incentivizing those who choose to reduce their water consumption.

Utility bills are always due on the 15th of each month.

If you have questions about the rate changes, please contact:

Town Hall at 970-686-1218 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Or you may visit https://www.townofseverance.org/258/Billed-Utilities-and-Fees, where you can view a detailed overview of the new rate structures.

Thank you,

Severance Town Council

Emergency Preparedness

Weather Ready Community

The National Weather Service and the Town of Severance want everyone to be part of a Weather-Ready Nation. With the return of winter, Colorado receives a variety of hazards in the form of snow, wind chill, high winds, and avalanches. Are you winter weather-ready? Now is the time to ensure you know how to stay safe when winter weather arrives.

Snow in Colorado is essential to the farmers, the ski areas, and for filling up reservoirs. However, winter storms often bring heavy snow, bitterly cold air, high winds, low visibility, and slick roads. This can lead to dangerous travel conditions and other life-threatening situations, such as avalanches and very frigid wind chill temperatures.

Emergency Preparedness

CodeRed, the Emergency Notification System in Weld County, is used by public safety officials to inform the public of immediate threats to health and safety. Sign up for the Weld County CodeRed alert system on this website:

https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF9B9A570C0B

Learn more about CodeRED: CodeRED will only be used for emergency situations near your specific address to keep you informed. We may use CodeRED to issue evacuation notices, shelter in place or lockdown orders, severe weather alerts (must opt in) as well as other public safety emergency information.

SIGN UP FOR CodeRED ALERTS

The system is geographically based, alerting only residents in the affected area. You will ONLY be alerted if there is an emergency near your address. Citizens may select how they would like to receive alerts; phone call, text and/or email. Emergency alerts are issued by the Weld County Regional Communications Center (WCRCC). A follow-up message will be issued by the WCRCC to announce an “all-clear.”

Weather alerts, which you must opt in for, are passed through the CodeRED system and sent by the National Weather Service.

Citizens need to register to receive alerts through their cellphone, text or email. Landlines in Weld County are automatically enrolled into the CodeRED system.

Registering for CodeRED is FREE and simple. There is also an app called CodeRED Mobile Alert that you can download for free onto your smartphone for free from iTunes or Google Play. (Additional fees may apply to use all features in the app.)
