Spring 2016 Newsletter Dear Neighbors, Your Town government is hard at work to improve how we communicate with you. As part of that effort, we are relaunching this twice-yearly townwide newsletter that will be delivered in the Spring and Fall . You’ll also soon see a new and improved town website – which you can learn more about inside this newsletter – a new town Facebook page, and a monthly email newsletter you can sign up for at www.townofmamaroneckny.org/subscribe. As your Town Supervisor for the last four years, I’ve also made it a crucial priority to keep Mamaroneck a local leader in environmental sustainability. That’s why I’m so excited to tell you more about the new choices you have in buying cheaper and greener electricity. You probably received a letter in the mail telling you that we have a new choice for an electricity supplier this year – Con Ed Solutions – and that eligible residents will automatically be enrolled unless they opt out. Anyone can opt out at any time. In partnership with Sustainable Westchester, this new program, Westchester Power, helps develop the market for renewable energy and provide you fixed costs at an anticipated lower rate. Your bill will still come from Con Ed and Con Ed will still deliver the electricity, the same as it always has, but the electricity itself will be supplied by Con Ed Solutions. You’ll get a fixed kilowatt price for 24 months, and the option to choose between two different sources of electricty; the default supplier uses 100% renewables. Transitioning to clean, renewable energy is one of the town’s core sustainability objectives. We will never have an easier, better, simpler, or more impactful way of accomplishing that objective. Longer term, opting for the green rate will help drive down costs further by ramping up demand for renewable energy, helping to stimulate growth in capacity and infrastructure. That, in turn, helps reduce prices. Bringing in big chunks of customers through Westchester Power contributes to that goal more effectively than scattered individual sign-ups. To learn more about this program, please visit www.westchesterpower.org. Thank you for helping make Mamaroneck a leader in sustainability! Nancy Seligson Town Supervisor
