Program Registration The Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Department is pleased to offer several easy ways to register for programs.

Program Enrollment Information

All programs have minimum and maximum capacities.

Some programs may allow registration after the program has begun.

Please note fees are not prorated.

In order to register online you will need to establish an online account. Please allow 2 – 3 business days for new household accounts to be approved pending submission of proof of residency.

• Choose an Activity Type.

• Add the program to the cart.

• Choose the family member to register.

• Answer any registration questions.

• Continue to the shopping cart.

• Choose checkout and finish by paying.

• All receipts are in PDF format and you must have Adobe Acrobat to view them.

• All online registrations will be assessed a non-refundable convenience fee.

• Online camp registrations require additional paperwork. Please refer to page 44.

IN PERSON:

May be done for all Recreation Department programs.

• Two proofs of residency must be shown at time of registration. All major credit cards, cash, check and money order are acceptable forms of payment.

• Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and the 1st Wednesday evening of the month from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Please note: The office closes at 4:00 pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Program Registration MAIL IN:

Send a completed program application form (downloaded from the Recreation Department website or see back of brochure) with your payment (check or money order) and a photo copy of two acceptable proofs of residency as noted below to: Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Department 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, New York 10543 • Registrations received prior to August 22nd will be accepted and held for processing the morning of August 23rd. Incomplete registrations will be returned.

• Photo copy of two legible acceptable proofs of residency must be submitted with application.

• Individual payments are necessary for each program if paying by check or money order.

• Please note that mail-in registration does not guarantee a space in a program. In the event that a class is closed, you will be placed on a wait list and will not be charged.

You will be notified if a space becomes available.

• A receipt will be emailed to you after your application has been processed.

• The Recreation Department cannot be responsible for lost or misdirected mail.

ACCEPTABLE PROOF OF RESIDENCY

Two acceptable proofs of residency are required including (1) valid government issued photo ID such as a driver’s license, etc. and either a current utility bill, rent receipt, lease, or check with an address imprint. PLEASE NOTE: Last year’s permit and library cards CANNOT BE USED as proof of residency. The Recreation Department reserves the right to reject any proof it deems questionable.

REFUND POLICY

• A full refund will be issued for any program cancelled by the Recreation Department.

• No refunds will be approved for permits or trips.

• Requests for refunds will be approved when received in writing directly to the Superintendent of Recreation.

• Requests must be received in the Recreation Department Office at least fourteen (14) days prior to the first class/session. A 10% administrative fee will be charged.

Requests received fourteen (14) to seven (7) days, a 50% refund will be given.

No refunds will be considered if requested later than seven (7) days prior to the program start date.

• All approved refunds will follow the Town Finance Department’s bill payment schedule.

• Online registration convenience fees not refundable.

PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations will be announced through the Recreation Office or through an automated message by calling 914-381- 8471. Make up dates apply only to classes cancelled by the Recreation Department and not individual absences.

Program Registration INSURANCE

Accident insurance is not provided for participants in any activities. It is recommended that parents and adults obtain such insurance.

INSTRUCTOR POLICY

All staff/instructors employed by the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation must meet established minimum certification requirements & employment standards. Therefore, only those individuals properly authorized by the Town may teach at Town operated facilities.

INSTRUCTORS WANTED

The Recreation Department is always looking for instructors to teach new and exciting programs. So if you have a specialty you would like to share, please contact us at 914-381-7865.

PHOTO POLICY

The department reserves the right to photograph program participants for publicity purposes.

PROGRAMS FOR THE DISABLED

The South East Consortium for Special Services, Inc. is a voluntary, not for profit corporation providing recreation programs and services year round for youth, teens and adults with developmental, physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Program information is available by contacting SEC at 914-698-5232.

Program Code of Conduct When participating in our programs, all participants need to follow these basic behavior standards. We encourage parents/guardians to review and discuss the behavior standards with their children prior to participating in the program. Adult participants in our programs are held to the same standards.

• Every participant is expected to promote and support a safe, fun and healthy environment through productive participation to achieve their full potential.

• Every participant is expected to exercise respect. This includes, but is not limited to; themselves, other participants, staff members, Town facilities and equipment.

• Every participant is expected to know and understand the rules given by the program instructor associated with the program and follow them.

• Horseplay, unwelcome teasing, abusive or foul language, hitting, fighting or any other form of harassment or intimidation will not be tolerated.

• Some Youth programs may require parental supervision during the program.

Failure to maintain any of the above standards, may result in suspension or expulsion of the participant from the program and any future programs.

How to Watch a Good Program Be Eliminated

Nothing kills a recreation program faster than residents who wait until the last minute to register. There is a point when a program must be cancelled or modified if there is insufficient registration. No one may participate without being registered.

Ice Rink • Pool • Tennis Permits To enjoy privileges at our Ice Rink, Hommocks Pool and the Tennis Courts, the following options are available: Hommocks Park Ice Rink: Resident and General Public Admission rates as well as Group Discount rates are available. See page 6 for more information.

Hommocks Pool: A permit is required to use the pool facility for Residents and Non Residents. See page 14 for permit options.

Tennis Courts at Memorial Park: A permit is required to use the tennis courts.

See page 22 for more info regarding permit options.

Permits are non-refundable and cannot be prorated.

How to Register for a Permit 1. First Time Permit Holders: For those purchasing a permit for the first time, registration must be done in person at the Recreation Office at 740 W. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, NY 10543. Proof of residency is required when registering. See page 3 for “Acceptable Proof of Residency.”

2. Permit Renewals or Changing Permit Type: Tennis permit renewals can only be done in person or by mail. For those who are changing to a different pool permit type, you can do it in person or by mail. For those who have a pool permit or skating permit from the previous year and would like to renew the same permit type, you can now renew it online at www.townofmamaroneckny.org/recreation. Click on the link for the online program registration.

• Login to your account • Click on the Permit Renewal button located under “You are Logged In” • Select the Permit you would like to renew.

• Proof of residency is required when registering. See page 3 for “Acceptable Proof of Residency.” Click on “Document Upload” to upload your two proofs of residency.

Celebrate a Hommocks Party On Ice Packages are available including ice time for all guests, skate rentals and food prepared by rink concessionaire, Slap Shot Cafe.

Rent the Rink Community Room Don’t want to host a party in your home, why not rent the Hommocks Park Ice Rink Community Room for group meetings or private parties. Rental Fees are based on a four hour period. Room dimensions are 46’ x 40’ with a maximum occupancy of 131. No smoking or alcohol is allowed. There is a 9:00 pm curfew.

Sunday, September 16th, 11:00am - 1:00pm Looking to try out ice skating? Come to our open house for an introduction to skating with some of our skating school instructors. All ages welcome.

Group lessons are for ages 4 through adult - Beginner to Advanced levels. The I.S.I (Ice Sports Industry) Badge program is available for an additional fee. The I.S.I. is an organization which supports the development and operation of ice rinks and ice skating programs in the United States. For those students ready to advance and are members of the I.S.I., testing will be done in the fourth week. Skaters will be given a badge when successfully completing a level. Please Note: Some levels are difficult and may take a skater more than 5 weeks to complete.

Group Lessons are offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

There are five (30) minute classes per session.

How to Register:

Registration is available online on the dates and times listed below. Classes will be filled on a first come first serve basis. After online registration ends, any remaining spaces will be made available for in-person by contacting the skating school for availability.

Hommocks Park Ice Rink Hockey Programs First-Time Hockey Players

Looking to get ready with skating before the hockey season begins?

It is recommended that all first time House Hockey players take this class. Focus will be on forward and backwards skating, hockey stops, forward and backward swizzles, gliding on one foot, forward crossovers, 2 foot turns on hockey skates. Hockey skates and helmet required.

Register for the Sunday Session 1 Skating School Pre-Hockey Lessons Sundays 10:15 am ages 5 to 8.

Hockey Clinic Ages 5 – 13 Day: Tuesday Time: 5:30 – 6:30 pm Dates: September 18th – October 23rd (6 weeks) Fee: Resident: $190 Rye Neck: $210 Non-Resident: $230 Get ready for the upcoming season.

Sessions are designed for all levels so if you need to get the rust off the skates and challenge your skills, improve your stick work or get a better understanding of the game, this program is for you. Sessions will concentrate on skating skills, stick work and game situations. All participants are required to be in full equipment.

Ice will be divided based on skill level.

Participants must know how to skate.

Stick Time & Cross Ice Games Ages 5 – 13 Stick Time followed by Cross Ice Games.

Games will be organized and players will be divided into teams. Participants must have hockey experience and be a current member of USA Hockey. Full equipment is required to participate.

This program will be run throughout the Hockey season during school vacation breaks and on select dates during the Spring season. Look for more information to be posted on our website and at the Ice Rink.

New this year, players will be playing both on Tuesdays and Saturdays each week. Station based skills practice will be on Tuesdays and Saturdays there will be organized Cross Ice Games. This program places emphasis on sound fundamental USA Hockey certified instruction and basic hockey strategy. REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS: All participants must be a member with USA Hockey (an additional fee). Register at www.usahockeyregistration.com.

Proof of the USA Hockey registration is required to be submitted to the Recreation Department in advance. No player will be allowed to participate without membership.

Group A (Advanced) - Will be high tempo skating and hockey skills. Players must be proficient in skating, hockey skills and knowledge.

Tuesdays: 7:30 – 8:25 pm Saturdays: 9:50 to 10:45 am Group B (Intermediate) - Will focus on skating & hockey positioning and strategy.

Players should be able to skate and have some hockey skills/knowledge.

Tuesdays: 6:30 – 7:25 pm Saturdays: 10:50 to 11:45 am Group C (Beginner) - Will concentrate on learning power skating techniques. This group is for players who have never played hockey and have little to no skating experience.

The pool is subject to the School District Schedule and will be closed on Snow Days, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day & Memorial Day. Fall maintenance will take place the week after Labor Day and Spring Maintenance is tentatively scheduled for the April Break.

Management reserves the right to close certain sections and/or pool to ensure swimmer safety and meet health code requirements. Patrons are expected to familiarize themselves with all pool rules and regulations posted on site.

Children 12 and under are prohibited from admittance without adult supervision.

Children in diaper stage must wear a swim diaper or rubber pants over a diaper.

Baby Carriages & chairs are not permitted on the main pool deck.

Please use gender specific locker rooms with children over 6 years old.

Lockers are available free of charge. You must provide your own lock.

During the school year, lap swimming lanes are limited from 6 – 7pm.

Weather Closures – the pool will close upon the first clap of thunder & will remain closed until management deems it safe to re-open. No refunds on guest fees for inclement weather conditions.

Your child will participate in a different Aqua Mission each week and earn a PADI Seal Team certification. All diving will take place in the pool with classroom following. Pool Programs Team Barracuda Kids Triathlon (No Pool Permit Required)

Triathlon training programs are under the direction of Jeff Boyer, USAT level II, Youth and Junior Coach and will introduce kids to the sport of triathlon. Training will focus on swimming, biking and running skills and development. Level 1 is for athletes that are just starting out and want to learn the basics of the sport. Level 2 is for more experienced and competitive athletes, looking to take the next step in their training. New this year we are offering two, five day Barracuda Triathlon Training camps in July and August, an intensive program for all levels in order to keep their training moving forward all summer long. This two hour per week commitment will help these athletes keep their “feel for the water” and provide excellent cross-training for other sports.

Our focus is on the freestyle/front crawl stroke, but we will incorporate the other three strokes as well. Practice will include technique drills and interval sets to help maintain and improve speed, strength and efficiency in the water. This is not a competitive swim team or a learn-to-swim program. All athletes are expected to have some proficiency in each stroke.

Participants are required to do online coursework at home and meet for on site skill sessions once a week. This program consists of instruction in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer (certification is good for 2 years). Participants must be able to complete the Pre-Course Skills test (bring a bathing suit and towel).

The skills required to take this course are as follows: 1. Swim 300 yards continuously using 100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breast stroke and 100 yards choice of freestyle or breast stroke.

2. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive to a depth of 11 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with both hands holding the object and exit the water without a ladder or steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.

No refunds for this program. Any missed class will result in failure.

Santa Letters

Children will have the opportunity to write a letter to Santa. Santa’s letter must include child’s name, age, and return address for a response letter to be sent.

Letters will be accepted beginning on November 23rd through December 13th, in “Santa’s Magical Mailboxes.” The Recreation staff will make sure all letters get delivered to the North Pole. “Santa’s Magical Mailboxes” will be located at the Recreation Department and at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink.

Tim Morehouse Fencing Club (TMFC) is one of the top youth fencing clubs in the country founded by Olympic Silver Medalist and 2x US National Champion, Tim Morehouse.

Beginning in September, TMFC will be bringing programs to the Hommocks Park Ice Rink Community Room.

Classes are 75 minutes and private lessons are 20 minutes.

Senior Citizen Programs Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center Hours Monday - Friday: 10:00 am - 3:30 pm Memorial Day – Labor Day 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center operates under the auspices of the Town of Mamaroneck Community Services Office. The Center, located at 1288 Boston Post Road (VFW David Potts Jr. Post #1156) is completely accessible with handicapped restroom facilities and ample parking. The Center provides a wide variety of recreational, social and educational activities, weekdays, year round. The Center is open to seniors age 55 and over. Most activities are free or have a nominal charge. Some classes have a fee for participants. A monthly calendar of events and programs is available at the Center and on the Town of Mamaroneck website at www.townofmamaroneckny.org/senior-center.

The present resident membership fee is $35.00. Non-resident membership is $50.00 Identification and proof of residency is required. For membership information and a calendar of events, call Activities Coordinator, Maria Gallagher: 834-8840.

A hot lunch is served daily at noon. Reservations are required. The cost of the meal is $4.75 per day for 2018. The minimum suggested contribution is $3.00 per day. Participants under the age of 60 must pay the full cost of the meal.

Curb to curb bus transportation to and from the Center is available for seniors living in the Town of Mamaroneck and Villages of Larchmont and Mamaroneck.

This service is provided if the bus can safely navigate thru the street. Passengers must be able to enter and exit the bus independently. Suggested contribution for bus transportation is 1.00 per day for 2018. The Senior Bus Service also provides transportation to Stop & Shop on Wednesday morning and afternoon.

Reservations must be made at least one day in advance by calling the Senior Center at 834-8840 between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. The contribution for trips to the grocery store is $1.00.

Memorial Park Memorial Park on Myrtle Blvd offers a variety of activities and recreational opportunities for all ages. Four tennis courts are available (permit required – see page 22) to Town residents who would like to have a friendly game with a neighbor. Lessons are available (see page 24) for those who would like to learn the game or sharpen their skills. Please note: Attendant on duty daily May through September.

PLAYGROUNDS Memorial Park has a tot playground for 2 - 5 year olds and one for 5 – 12 year olds to enjoy. Both are surrounded by rubberized safety surfacing.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES UNDERNEATH THE MURRAY AVENUE BRIDGES The blacktop has been re-surfaced underneath these 2 separate bridges to provide for a variety of activities. One bay provides a smooth surface and large area to be used as a tennis warm-up area. The other bay is designed with interactive children activities. This area includes a miniature track, shuffleboard, giant checkers and hopscotch. Equipment for these activities including volleyball net, pickleball equipment and game pieces for chess/ checker tables may be borrowed from the on-duty attendant by leaving a Town of Mamaroneck Resident I.D. card or driver’s license.

A Message from the Mamaroneck Board of Education The Hommocks pool was built in 1969 by the Mamaroneck School District as a part of the construction of the Hommocks Middle School. The school District is responsible for ongoing maintenance and improvements of the pool. However, understanding that the pool is a valuable asset to all residents of the community, the School district and the Town of Mamaroneck have always had a cooperative arrangement whereby the Town rents the pool in order to make it available for the community. The Town and the School District work closely to minimize any disruptions caused by closures for periodic maintenance or renovations and will continue to try to keep the public informed of the issues relating to the pool.
