Program Registration The Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Department is pleased to offer easy ways to register for programs. Online

ACCEPTABLE PROOF OF RESIDENCY

Two acceptable proofs of residency are required including (1) valid government issued photo ID such as a driver’s license, and either a current utility bill, rent receipt, lease, or check with an address imprint. PLEASE NOTE: Last year’s permit and library cards CANNOT BE USED as proof of residency. The Recreation Department reserves the right to reject any proof it deems questionable.

Send a completed program application form (downloaded from the Recreation Department website) with payment (check or money order) and a photo copy of two acceptable proofs of residency. • Individual payments are necessary for each program. • Please note that mail-in registration does not guarantee a space in a program. • An email receipt will be sent to confirm your registration.

ONLINE

In order to register online you will need to establish an online account. Please allow 2 business days for new household accounts to be approved. Residents must also submit of proof of residency before their online account can be approved. • Go to www.townofmamaroneckny.org/recreation. • Click on red register online button to open the online portal. • Log into Household account or create an account. • Choose an Activity Type. • Add the program to the cart. • Choose the family member to register. • Answer any registration questions. • Continue to the shopping cart. • Checkout and choose payment option. Please note: All online transactions will be charged a non-refundable convenience fee. A 2.75% convenience fee is applied for MasterCard, Visa, Discover and debit cards. A 3.00% convenience fee is applied for American Express.

Program Registration Programs, Activities and Events listed in the brochure are subject to change at anytime. All programs have minimum and maximum capacities. Some programs may allow registration after the program has begun. Please note fees are not prorated. How to Watch a Good Program Be Eliminated

Nothing kills a recreation program faster than individuals who wait until the last minute to register. There is a point when a program must be cancelled or modified if there is insufficient registration. No one may participate without being registered. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY!

REFUND POLICY

A full refund will be issued for any program cancelled by the Recreation Department. Requests for refunds or household credits will be considered by submitting a Refund Request Form to the Recreation Department at least (14) days prior to the program start date. A 10% administrative fee will be deducted. Requests received thirteen (13) to seven (7) days; a 50% refund will be given. No refunds will be granted less than seven (7) days prior to the program start date. A request for a refund/household credit due to an injury must be submitted with a Refund Request Form and accompanied by a doctor’s note. Refund/household credit will be prorated based on the date received by the Recreation Department less a 10% administrative fee. Missed classes, activities, reservations or sessions of any kind, (including those due to quarantine) cannot be transferred to another session, rescheduled, credited or refunded for any reason unless cancelled by the Recreation Department. Your registration guarantees you a space in the class regardless of your attendance. Note: Online registration convenience fees are nonrefundable.

PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations will be announced through the Recreation Office by calling 914-381-7865. Make up dates apply ONLY to classes cancelled by the Recreation Department and NOT individual absences.

PROGRAM HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES Our priority is the health and safety of the participants and staff in our programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic we will continue to take precautions and follow recommendations set by the CDC, state, and local guidelines. Please be aware that the current situation is fluid and guidelines are subject to change. Program Registration INSURANCE

Accident insurance is not provided for participants in any activities. It is recommended that parents and adults obtain such insurance.

INSTRUCTOR POLICY

All staff/instructors employed by the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation must meet established minimum certification requirements & employment standards. Therefore, only those individuals properly authorized by the Town may teach at Town operated facilities.

INSTRUCTORS WANTED

PHOTO POLICY

The department reserves the right to photograph program participants for publicity purposes.

PROGRAMS FOR THE DISABLED

The South East Consortium for Special Services, Inc. is a voluntary, not for profit corporation providing recreation programs and services year round for youth, teens and adults with developmental, physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Program information is available by contacting SEC at 914-698-5232.

Program Code of Conduct When participating in our programs, all participants are expected to follow these basic behavior standards. We encourage parents/guardians to review and discuss the behavior standards with their children prior to participating in the program. Adult participants in our programs are held to the same standards. • Every participant is expected to promote and support a safe, fun and healthy environment through productive participation to achieve their full potential. • Every participant is expected to exercise respect. This includes, but is not limited to; themselves, other participants, staff members, Town facilities and equipment. • Every participant is expected to know and understand the rules given by the program instructor associated with the program and follow them. • Horseplay, unwelcome teasing, abusive or foul language, hitting, fighting or any other form of harassment or intimidation will not be tolerated. • Some Youth programs may require parental supervision during the program. Failure to maintain any of the above standards, may result in suspension or expulsion of the participant from the program and any future programs.

Ice Rink • Pool • Tennis Permits To enjoy privileges at our Ice Rink, Hommocks Pool and the Tennis Courts, the following options are available: Hommocks Park Ice Rink: Currently NO PERMIT options are available. Patrons can

pay as they go at the rink.

Permits are non-refundable and cannot be prorated.

The Town Center is currently open by appointment only. For permits, please call Monday through Friday between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at (914) 381-7865 to schedule an appointment.

How to Register for a Permit

1. First Time Permit Holders: Registration must be done in person by appointment at the Recreation Office at 740 W. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. Proof of residency is required when registering. See page 2 for “Acceptable Proof of Residency.” Photos will be taken at this time. 2. Permit Renewals or Changing Permit Type: • Tennis permit renewals may be done online or by mail. • Changing to a different permit type can only be done in person or by mail. • Permits from the previous year that are the same permit type, can be renewed online at www.townofmamaroneckny.org/recreation. Click on the link for the online program registration. • Login to your account. • Click on the Permit Renewal button located under “You are Logged In.” • Select the Permit you would like to renew. • Proof of residency is required when registering. See page 2 for “Acceptable Proof of Residency.” Click on “Document Upload” to upload your two proofs of residency.

Rent the Rink Community Room Don’t want to host a party in your home? Rent the Hommocks Park Ice Rink Community Room for group meetings or private parties. Rental Fees are based on a four hour period. Room dimensions are 46’ x 40’ with a maximum occupancy of 131 people. No smoking or alcohol is allowed. There is a 9:00 pm curfew. Larchmont-Mamaroneck based Not for Profit Organizations $300/4hr. rental; $50 for each additional hour. Not-for-Profit Organizations $350/4hr. rental; $50 for each additional hour. Hommocks Park Ice Rink Learn to Skate

The Hommocks Park Ice Rink offers Learn to Skate classes that are designed to teach the fundamentals of skating in a fun environment! We follow the guidelines of the Ice Sports Industry program that is based on consistent and well-defined levels of achievement that have proven to guide a skater from basic beginner maneuvers through significantly more advanced and even competitive skill sets.

Skating Ages & Levels Group Lessons are available for beginner through advanced levels for those ages 4 through Adult. See page 11 for an explanation of the Skating Levels & Elements. Day: Time: Dates:

Please Note: There are certain skating levels that are difficult and may take a skater more than one session to complete. All students will be tested on the fourth week of each session to determine their skating level. Membership to I.S.I (Ice Sports Industry) is optional and available for an additional fee. I.S.I members who successfully complete a level will be given a badge.

How To Register Registration is only available online and only during the dates and times listed under the Registration Dates section (see page 10). Those who already have an online household account can register directly through the website, www.townofmamaroneckny.org/ recreation. For those who are new or have not previously established an online household account, please refer to page 2 for details on setting up an account. (Please plan accordingly since new accounts may take up to 2 business days to activate). Registration is only available for one session at a time. There is no priority given to participants who are currently enrolled. Once registration begins, it will remain open online until the classes fill or until the deadline. Classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Hommocks Park Ice Rink Hockey Programs First-Time Hockey Players

Looking to get ready with skating before the hockey season begins? It is recommended that all first time House Hockey players take this class. Focus will be on forward and backwards skating, hockey stops, forward and backward swizzles, gliding on one foot, forward crossovers, 2 foot turns on hockey skates. Hockey skates and helmet required. Register for Session 1 Skating School Pre-Hockey Lessons on Tuesdays and Sundays. Ages 5 to 10.

Get ready for the upcoming season. Sessions are designed for all levels. So, if you need to get the rust off the skates and challenge your skills, improve your stick work or get a better understanding of the game, this program is for you. Sessions will concentrate on skating skills, stick work, and game situations. All participants are required to be in full equipment. Ice will be divided based on skill level.

Evaluations will be conducted during the first 2 dates of the season. The Hockey Director reserves the right to assign players as necessary. Note: Membership to USA Hockey is recommended although it is not required to participate in the program this year.

Choose the time range you want to book and click “check availability”. 6. You will be brought to a calendar. Any available dates will show in blue. 7. Once you have chosen your date(s) click “Add to Cart” at the bottom of the screen. 8. Choose the family member(s) registering and continue through the registration process. Please Note: If a member in the household doesn’t have a birthday listed in our system, you will be charged the Adult Fee of $10.00. GENERAL PROTOCOLS AND GUIDELINES • Masks must be worn when entering and exiting the pool facility, when using the restrooms, and at any time not in the water or able to social distance. • Required to social distance from any non family members while in the pool water and the pool complex. • Management reserves the right to close certain sections and/or pool to ensure swimmer safety and meet health code requirements. • Children 12 and under are prohibited from admittance without adult supervision. • Children in diaper stage must wear a swim diaper. • Baby carriages & chairs are not permitted on the main pool deck. • Please use gender specific locker rooms with children 7 and older. •Weather Closures – the pool will close upon the first clap of thunder & will remain closed until management deems it safe to re-open. This program consists of instruction in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer (certification good for 2 years). Participants must be able to complete the Pre Course Skills test (bring a bathing suit and towel).

The skills required to take this course are as follows: 1. Swim 300 yards continuously using 100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breast stroke and 100 yards choice of freestyle or breast stroke. 2. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive to a depth of 11 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with both hands holding the object and exit the water without a ladder or steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds. 3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs. No refunds for this program. Any missed class will result in failure.

Youth Programs Snapology is partnering with Mamaroneck Recreation to kick off the Fall with some amazing S.T.E.A.M. & Robotics programs. At Snapology we use LEGO® bricks and technology to bring S.T.E.A.M. concepts to life in a fun and engaging way. ROBOTICS AND CODING! Snapology provides interactive robotics and coding programs for children using LEGO® bricks. Students in our robotics programs learn pseudo-coding, coding, robotics and engineering principles. Using fun topics and themes, such as animals, games, space and battle machines, we embrace children’s interest and curiosity to guide them through robotics and engineering principles. Memorial Park Memorial Park on Myrtle Blvd offers a variety of activities and recreational opportunities for all ages. Four tennis courts are available (permit required – see page 21) to Town residents who would like to have a friendly game with a neighbor. Lessons are available (see page 22) for those who would like to learn the game or sharpen their skills. Please note: Attendant on duty daily May through September. PLAYGROUNDS

Memorial Park has a tot playground for 2 - 5 year olds and one for 5 - 12 year olds to enjoy. Both are surrounded by rubberized safety surfacing. RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES UNDERNEATH THE MURRAY AVENUE BRIDGES The blacktop has been re-surfaced underneath these 2 separate bridges to provide for a variety of activities. One bay provides a smooth surface and large area to be used as a tennis warm-up area. The other bay is designed with interactive children activities. This area includes a miniature track, shuffleboard, giant checkers and hopscotch. Equipment for these activities including volleyball net, pickleball equipment and game pieces for chess/checker tables may be borrowed from the on-duty attendant by leaving a Town of Mamaroneck Resident I.D. card or driver’s license.

The Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center operates under the auspices of the Town of Mamaroneck Community Services Office. The Center is located at 1288 W. Boston Post Road, Larchmont (VFW David Potts Jr. Post #1156).The Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center offers an engaging selection of social, educational and recreational programs for our members to choose from. The Center is open to seniors age 55 and over on weekdays year round. Most activities are free or have a nominal charge for participants. A monthly calendar of events and programs is available at the Senior Center and on the Town of Mamaroneck website at http://www.townofmamaroneckny.org/senior-center. Membership The Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center allows residents as well as non-residents to become members of the senior center. Those residing in the Town of Mamaroneck, Village of Larchmont & Village of Mamaroneck are considered residents. There is a required annual membership fee of $35 per person for residents and $50 for nonresidents. Annual membership at the senior center runs from January 1st- December 31st. Most activities are free with membership or have a nominal charge. Some programs, trips and special events have a fee for participants. Transportation to Senior Center Curb to curb bus transportation to and from the center is available for senior residents living in the Town of Mamaroneck and the Villages of Larchmont and Mamaroneck. This service is only provided if the bus can safely navigate through the street. This includes being able to turn around without the bus backing up. Passengers must be able to enter and exit the bus independently. Suggested contribution for bus transportation is $1 per day.

Advanced Art Class Day: Wednesday Time: 1:00 - 3:00 pm Fee: $125/year Please register at Senior Center. Art instructor, Pat Sutherland enters her 50th year teaching at the Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center. She is a professional artist that has exhibited her paintings in museums and galleries in the United States and abroad. She offers professional advice and instruction while students work on their personal art piece. Students must bring their own art supplies (acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel or charcoal) and have their own project in mind to work on. This class displays work at Annual Art Exhibit at Larchmont Library each spring.

Sheldrake Environmental Center Sheldrake Environmental Center Inspiring Children and Adults to Connect with Nature on Sheldrake’s 60 Acres 2021 Fall/Winter Events and Programs After School Programs in Nature Sheldrake offers classes Monday through Thursday at 3:30 for Preschoolers and children in grades K-2. These classes meet once a week for the Fall Session. Grab a friend and join us once a week for crafts, nature walks and fun of all sorts. These programs generally fill up quickly; early registration is recommended. Morning and early afternoon Preschool and Toddler Nature Programs Spark a lifelong love of science and nature in your child at our weekly STEM programs. Whether hiking in the woods, studying insects, bird watching in the meadow, or engaging in a craft project, children will have fun learning about nature and the changing of the seasons! These programs continue to grow in response to requests from the community. In general, programs meet once a week and will be offered Monday – Friday at 10 am for 1 hour and either 1 pm for 1.5 hours or 1:30 pm for 1 hour for the fall session. A Message from the Mamaroneck Board of Education The Hommocks pool was built in 1969 by the Mamaroneck School District as a part of the construction of the Hommocks Middle School. The school District is responsible for ongoing maintenance and improvements of the pool. However, understanding that the pool is a valuable asset to all residents of the community, the School district and the Town of Mamaroneck have always had a cooperative arrangement whereby the Town rents the pool in order to make it available for the community.
