Beer 101 There are two main types of beer: Ales and Lagers Beers are divided into these two categories by the kinds of yeast used during their creation and by the temperatures used to ferment the two different kinds of beer.

Microbrews are beers that are brewed in small, independent breweries.

Microbreweries often brew beer in much smaller batches, using specialty ingredients.

Interesting Facts About Beer 

Beer is one of the world's oldest prepared beverages, possibly dating back to the early Neolithic or 9500 BC.



The world´s most expensive beer is Belgian's "Vielle Bon Secours“. One bottle costs around 1000 American dollars.



Cenosillicaphobia is the fear of an empty beer glass. Terrifying phobia indeed.



Old Vikings believed that in their heaven called Valhalla, there is a giant goat whose udders provided unlimited supply of beer.



In 1814, almost 400,000 gallons of beer flooded several streets in London after a huge vat ruptured in the parish of St. Giles.



Beer prevents kidney stones. A study published in American Journal of Epidemiology estimated that a bottle of beer consumed every day reduces the risk by 40%.



The most beer-drinking country in the world is the Czech Republic. With an incredible per capita beer consumption of almost 40 gallons a year, the Czechs are way out in front in the beer drinking world league table.



The study of beer and beer-making even has an official scientific name – zythology. It derives from the Greek words “zythos” (beer) and “logos” (study).



There are about 400 types of beer in the world. Belgium is the country that has the most individual beer brands.



The world´s strongest beer is Brewmeister´s , Snake Venom“. While regular beer usually have about 5% ABV, this Scottish killer has a stomachburning 67.5% ABV.

Interesting Facts About Beer 

At any given time, 0.7% of the world population is drunk. It means 50 million people are drunk right now. Beer is obviously the main contributor to the drunkenness.



American president George Washington had his own brewhouse on the grounds of Mount Vernon.



The first professional brewers were all women called brewsters.

The women had to be very beautiful to be able to become brewsters.



The world's largest beer festival is Oktoberfest. Held annually in Munich, Germany, it is a 16-day funfair running from late September to the first weekend in October with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year.



Beer commercials in the US aren't really allowed to show people actually drinking the beer. It's a US law that people cannot actually be shown consuming an alcoholic beverage on television.



Beer strengthens bones. It is rich in silicon that increases calcium deposits and minerals for bone tissue.



The foamy head is a very important part of the beer. It is formed by a complex carbon-dioxide reaction and can say a lot about the quality of the beer. If the head is missing, it can mean that your beer is flat and bland-tasting.



Beer helped Joseph Priestly discover oxygen. He noticed gases rising from the big vats of beer at a brewery and asked to do some experiments.



The moon has a crater named Beer.

Honey Beer Braised Ribs Ingredients       

1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1 tsp pepper 3/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup honey 1 bottle dark beer 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1 bottle BBQ sauce

Directions 1. Combine brown sugar, pepper and salt,. Rub over ribs. Place ribs

bone side down on a rack in a large shallow roasting pan. Drizzle with honey. Combine beer and vinegar. Pour around ribs and spoon over ribs.

2. Cover tightly with foil and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Reduce heat to 250 degrees, bake 2 hours longer or until tender.

3. Moisten a paper towel with cooking oil. Using long-handled tongs, lightly coat the grill rack. Drain ribs. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 10-15 minutes or until browned, turning and basting occasionally with BBQ sauce.

Beernana Bread         

3 cups self-rising flour 3/4 cup quick cooking oats 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1-1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas 1 bottle wheat beer 1/4 cup maple syrup 2 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp sesame seeds 1/4 tsp kosher salt

Directions 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. In a large bowl, mix flour, oats and brown sugar. In another bowl, mix bananas, beer and maple syrup until blended. Add to flour mixture, stir just until moistened.

3. Transfer to a greased 9x5 loaf pan. Drizzle with oil; sprinkle with sesame seeds and salt.

4. Bake 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

5. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool.

Although barbecue has become largely identified with Southern cooking in the United States, barbecuing has numerous regional variations in many parts of the world.

Beer Barbeque Sauce Ingredients          

1 tablespoon olive oil 1 ⁄3 cup chopped onion 2 tablespoons garlic 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 2 cups ketchup 1 cup beer (ale) 2 tablespoons honey Dijon mustard 1 tablespoon molasses 1 tablespoon brown sugar ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions: In a saucepot over medium-high heat, add the oil, onion and garlic; cook until the onions begin to soften, about 4 minutes. Add the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, honey Dijon, molasses, brown sugar, salt, pepper and hot sauce; bring to a boil, then simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the sauce from heat and add the beer. For a smoother sauce, strain out the onions or pulse in a blender.

Beer Glazed Steaks Ingredients       

2/3 cup chili sauce 2/3 cup spicy steak sauce 1/2 cup chopped shallots 1/2 cup beer 4 boneless beef top loin steaks (8 ounces each) 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper

Directions 1. In small saucepan, combine the chili sauce, steak sauce, shallots

and beer. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 1215 minutes or until slightly thickened. Set aside 1/2 cup for serving and keep warm.

2. Sprinkle steaks with salt and pepper.

3. Moisten a paper towel with cooking oil, using long-handled tongs, lightly coat the grill rack. Grill steaks covered, over medium heat or broil 4 inches from the heat for 4-6 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness, basting occasionally with sauce mixture. Serve with reserved sauce.

Beer Cheese in a Bread Bowl Ingredients     

1 round loaf pumpernickel bread 2 jars sharp American cheese spread 1 package cream cheese softened 1/4 cup beer 1/2 cup real bacon bits

Directions 1. Cut top fourth loaf of bread, carefully hollow out bottom, leaving a 1/2 inch shell. Cube removed bread, set aside.

2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine cheese spread and cream cheese.. Microwave uncovered, on high for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Stir in beer, microwave, uncovered, 20 seconds longer. Stir in bacon.

3. Fill bread shell with cheese dip . Serve with reserved bread cubes.
