Message from Jenn Overmoe, Program Coordinator for Senior Services “What can I say after six wonderful years getting to know so many seniors from the community. It has truly been a blessing to be part of such a wonderful group of people. I have enjoyed the time spent with the Senior Services programs but now I’m beginning a new adventure in my life.

I have decided to follow my heart and will be moving to Guam where I will be spending time with my boyfriend who is currently stationed there. Thank you to everyone for all the support I’ve received throughout the years. I will miss you all.”

Senior Sneakers Trips ACTIVITY LEVELS Each trip has an Activity Level. Plus, you must be able to walk six steep steps to board the bus. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations prior to signing up for a trip so staff can try to accommodate your needs ahead of time. Choose your level carefully: LEVEL 1: Easy, sitting/little walking. Must be able to stand 10 minutes without assistance or bring your walker or wheelchair.

Trips for May & June Moth Ball Fleet Tour

Tuesday, May 8, 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Learn about the history of the World War II moth ball fleet as we take a four-hour cruise around the famous ships. We will have lunch on board. Our tour departs from the Pittsburg marina. Cost: $93 resident; $112 non-resident. Price includes transportation, tour and lunch. Activity Level: 1-2

San Juan Bautista Mission

Tuesday, May 15, 10:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Our 90-minute tour takes us to the historical San Juan Bautista Mission, Plaza Hotel, Plaza Stable, Castro Breen Adobe and a State park. The tour is mostly walking with some stairs in the hotel to the second floor. Lunch will be at a Mexican restaurant, Jardines, prior to the tour. Cost: $50 resident; $60 non-resident. Price includes transportation, tour and lunch. Activity Level: 4

75th Anniversary Golden Gate Bay Cruise Sunday, May 27, 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Join us for the festivities on board Delta Discovery Cruises for the 75th San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge Anniversary. A historian on board will discuss this historical landmark and we will see waterfront

Follow the Seagull San Francisco Tour Tuesday, June 5, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

San Francisco’s 49 Mile Scenic Drive opened in September, 1938, is well-known because of the California Gold Rush. It was designed to see the most important attractions and beauty of the city. We will visit landmarks such as: the Great Highway, S.F. Zoo, John Muir Drive, Lake Merced Drive, Sunset Blvd. and Golden Gate Park. The group will stop for lunch at Beach Chalet. Cost: $57 resident; $68 non-resident.

Red Oak Victory Ship Tour and National Park Rosie the Riveter Thursday, June 14, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

The course fosters defensive driving practices to stay alive in today’s fast moving highways and includes an auto insurance discount certificate. Join a friendly and fun game with your favorite partner or come as a single. Masterpoints are awarded at each game. Instructors are both certified ACBL directors. Cane Do

This is a specialized, senior self-defense training class incorporating the use of a walking cane. Class consists of 10-15 minutes of warm-up/lecture, and 45-50 minutes of training. For those who depend on the cane for vertical (standing) support, self-defense techniques include those that can be performed in a sitting position. Please bring your own cane and wear comfortable shoes (no open-toe shoes). Cost: $15 resident; $18 non-resident. No class on 5/28.

Jacki Sorensen’s Aerobic Dancing

Mondays and Wednesdays, May 7-June 27 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m Location: Senior Center at the Veterans Memorial Building Instructor: Lorie McGuinness This is a dance fitness class for the non-dancer that provides a total body workout including strength, flexibility and endurance in a safely choreographed format suitable for seniors as well as those new or returning to a fitness program. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and to bring a floor mat. Hand held 2-4 pound weights are recommended but not required. Cost: $96 resident; $115 non-resident. Location: Senior Center at the Veterans Memorial Building Instructor: Sylvia Rodriguez Stretching is the process of elongating the muscles, tendons and ligaments that connect the muscles and bones of the body. As the body ages, these attachments tend to shorten, resulting in a predisposition to injury.

Stretching is not only an important part of a physical fitness regimen but also of living a healthy life.

Tai Gi

Location: Town Meeting Hall Instructor: Sulina Wong Learn a popular cultural exercise with body movement, balance control, muscle coordination and stretches. Cost: FREE. No class on 6/20 and 6/27.

Tennis-Drill and Play Classes

Sustains a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability. Familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play. 3.0-Fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots. Not as comfortable with all strokes and lacks execution when trying for directional control, depth or power. Singles play mostly backcourt. Most common doubles formation is oneup and one-back. 3.5-Has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots. Lacks consistent depth and variety. Starting to exhibit more aggressive net play. Has improved

Hiking Club The Danville Area Senior Hikes (DASH) is open to adults ages 55 and up. Most hikes are not strenuous, but gradients are involved due to the local terrain.

Distances are usually 4-5 miles, and the pace is moderate. Trailheads are reached via carpools; passengers are asked to make a donation of 10 cents/ mile to the driver. Hiking dates: 5/9, 5/23, 6/13, 6/27. Meets at 8:45 a.m. and returns about 1:00 p.m.
