The Town of Danville along with an estimated 100 volunteers from Classes 5-9 the community are joining forces once again by helping older adults in the Danville area with no-cost yard cleanup and minor home repairs.

Enrichment Programs 9-10 Individuals who would like to have help with their yard work or who Health & Wellness 10-11 want to assist as a volunteer with a work crew should contact Jenn Overmoe, Senior Services Coordinator at (925) 314-3491. Applications Community Resources 11 can be picked up at the Danville Community Center. Please have all applications returned to Senior Services no later than April 13.

Senior Sneakers Trips ACTIVITY LEVELS Each trip has an Activity Level. Plus, you must be able to walk six steep steps to board the bus. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations prior to signing up for a trip so staff can try to accommodate your needs ahead of time. Choose your level carefully: LEVEL 1: Easy, sitting/little walking. Must be able to stand 10 minutes without assistance or bring your walker or wheelchair.

Each year hummingbirds come back to the arboretum at U.C. Santa Cruz because of nectarcontaining flowers in the arboretum gardens. See late winter/early spring flowers in addition to the aerial displays provided by the feathered creatures. We will enjoy a one-hour guided tour and lunch on your own in downtown Santa Cruz. Senior Sneakers Trips / Buzz Sessions The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier (From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk)Exhibit Thursday, April 12, 3:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The de Young presents a multimedia exhibition, From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, of Jean Paul Gaultier, the bad boy of haute couture, featuring 120 ensembles created by the designer. The exhibition also features numerous sketches, fashion photographs, and video clips that spotlight Gaultier’s collaborations with filmmakers, choreographers, and musicians.

Splash Hit by the Bay Tour AT&T Park and DUCK Tours

Wednesday, April 25, 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

We will cover all the bases when our group takes a “behind-the-scenes” look at the home of the San Francisco Giants, where home runs become “splash hits.” After our tour, we will enjoy a box lunch inside the ballpark provided by Boudin Bakery.

Our group will then board a San Francisco Duck Tour which allows you to enjoy the sites of the city by land combined with a “splash down” into the Bay. Cost: $72 resident; $86 non-resident. Price includes: transportation, tours and lunch. Activity Level: 4 - 5

Clipper Cards for Seniors who ride BART! Thursday, February 16, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Presenter: BART representatives Location: Town Meeting Hall BART has transitioned from paper tickets to Clipper cards. A representative from BART will provide a brief overview. The rest of the time will be dedicated to registering and providing seniors with the Clipper card. Seniors must bring proof of eligibility such as a Driver’s License, passport, ID card or an alien registration/permanent resident card to receive their free card which allows them travel at a discounted rate. These areas are especially influential in shaping the experience of the elderly. Dr. Rasmusson will explore these factors and possible cognitive outcomes, as well as the potential and limits of the mind with aging.

This course is designed for drivers 50 and older and covers normal physical changes and provides techniques to compensate for these changes. The course fosters defensive driving practices to stay alive in today’s fast moving highways and includes an auto insurance discount certificate. The Danville Area Senior Hikes (DASH) is open to adults ages 55 and up. Most hikes are not strenuous, but gradients are involved due to the local terrain.

Distances are usually 4-5 miles, and the pace is moderate. Trailheads are reached via carpools; passengers are asked to make a donation of 10 cents/ mile to the driver. Hiking dates: 3/14, 3/28, 4/11 and 4/25. Senior Sneaker Trip Refund Policy: When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a trip. Withdrawal and refund requests must be submitted five working days prior to the trip. You may elect to receive a full credit on your account or a refund with a $20 cancellation fee.
