Message from the Town Council
S
ummer in Danville is a special time to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the community we share. From hometown traditions and outdoor entertainment to neighborhood gatherings, the season highlights so much of what makes Danville a great place to live and visit. Danville’s quality of life is shaped by the places, spaces, and infrastructure that support daily life in Town. This summer, construction projects are taking shape across Danville, including new community spaces, roadway improvements, and trail networks that will build on that foundation and help residents enjoy Danville now and into the future. Each project reflects a commitment to maintaining the character of our Town while preparing thoughtfully for what comes next (page 6). Summer also brings favorite events that help make the season memorable. The Kiwanis-Danville 4th of July Parade is a sure sign that summer is truly underway. Residents can also enjoy Music in the Park, Moonlight Movies, the At the Plaza series, and other community events filled with art, music, entertainment, and time spent together (page 8).

E-Bike Safety Reform Legislation Advances in Sacramento
I
mproving e-bike safety remains a priority for communities across California as electric bicycles continue to grow in popularity among riders of all ages. The Town of Danville, both individually and as part of the Tri-Valley Cities Coalition, monitors and advocates on legislation that may impact the community and region. This year, the Legislature considered a series of bills aimed at strengthening safety standards, improving rider education, clarifying e-bike classifications, and providing local governments with additional tools to address safety concerns. These proposals stem from the e-bike safety study conducted by the Mineta Transportation Institute at the direction of the Legislature through SB 381. While lawmakers considered numerous reforms this year, four measures—AB 1569, AB 1614, AB 2284, and SB 1167— remain active and will continue through the legislative process.
The Danville Legislative Committee will continue to monitor these measures as they move through the legislative process. Residents are encouraged to get involved by:
Attending public meetings Residents can stay informed by attending Legislative Committee meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m., or by tuning in to Town Council legislative updates, provided during Town Council meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. Agendas are available at danville.ca.gov/agendas.
Contacting State Legislators Residents may also contact their State representatives to share opinions on legislation impacting the Town. Senator Tim Grayson, 9th District 925-944-4901 | sd09.senate.ca.gov Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, 16th District 925-244-1600 | a16.asmdc.org

BOATS & RVs
VACATION HOUSE CHECKS
One sure sign of summer is seeing boats and RVs packed up for a getaway. While boats and RVs must be screened from public view when stored, they may be out temporarily for loading and unloading. For RVs, residents can obtain and display a three-day temporary parking permit from the Danville Police Department, allowing time to load or unload before heading out or returning home. The permit must be displayed in the front left corner of the windshield.
Going on a summer vacation? The Danville Police Department offers Vacation House Checks, a free service for residents who would like extra peace of mind while they are away. Before you leave town, you can request that Danville Police check on your home during your trip to help make sure everything looks secure. It is a simple way to add one more layer of preparation to your travel plans so you can focus on enjoying your time away. To submit a request, fill out an application at danville.ca.gov/housecheck.
The ordinance applies to parents, older siblings, or any adults who control the space where underage drinking occurs, whether they are present or not. Before hosting or helping plan a summer gathering, talk with your teen about the risks of underage drinking and the importance of making safe choices. By staying informed and proactive, we can help protect Danville’s youth and keep summer celebrations safe for everyone.
ummer in Danville is filled with moments that bring people together, and Melysa is one of the people helping make those moments happen. As Supervisor of Economic Development, one of her primary responsibilities is overseeing the Town’s community events program, working with event organizers, local businesses, police services, and Town staff to help create safe, welcoming experiences for the community to enjoy. “What I have always loved about events is that they are one-time experiences,” Melysa said. “I get to support other people’s dreams, and there is such magic in being there in that moment.”
SOCIAL HOST ORDINANCE The Danville Police Department reminds the community that under the Town’s Social Host Ordinance (4-6.1 a-c), adults can be held legally responsible if underage drinking takes place in their homes or at spaces they rent, even if they did not personally provide the alcohol.

TEEN CENTER REGISTRATION Get a head start on preparing for the new school year by setting your teen up for a smooth and successful year. Danville’s Teen Centers are safe, supervised, and fun after-school programs designed for middle school students, with locations at every middle school in Danville. Each afternoon, students have a welcoming place to relax, socialize, and take part in a variety of activities. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged to secure a spot for the 2026 to 2027 school year. For details and registration, visit danville.ca.gov/recguide.
That feeling is at the heart of what makes Danville such a special place to be. Every community gathering is shaped by the people who show up, the energy they bring, and the memories they make together. Melysa’s work also supports local businesses and markets the Town through tourism opportunities and campaigns like Dog-Friendly Danville, inspired in part by weekend adventures with her dog, Mocha. Next time you are downtown for a community event, keep an eye out for Melysa and Mocha.

More Than a Line
S
ummer in Danville comes to life through art, and More Than a Line invites you to see the familiar in a whole new way. Centered on the simple pencil, the Town’s summer art exhibition explores how a single medium can produce an extraordinary range of styles, textures, and expression. From delicate shading to bold, intricate compositions, each piece reveals the endless creative possibilities that emerge from graphite and colored pencil, turning something ordinary into something truly captivating. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, July 10 from 5:30 to 7:30
p.m. at the Village Theatre Art Gallery, where attendees can meet the artists, be among the first to view the artwork in a lively, welcoming setting, and enjoy refreshments. More Than a Line will remain on view through September 25. In addition to the gallery experience, two hands-on workshops offer a chance to get inspired and create. Crafting with Colored Pencils (ages 13 and up) invites participants to design vibrant succulent sculptures, while Picture This Pencil! (ages 5 to 10) encourages young artists to transform simple lines into expressive, one-of-a-kind picture frames.

Building Connections That Keep Danville Safe Community partnerships take center stage at National Night Out and beyond
O
n Tuesday, August 4, neighborhoods across Danville will come together for National Night Out. This annual, nationwide community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships through block parties, cookouts, and safety demonstrations. In Danville, it is also a celebration of the strong partnership between residents and the Danville Police Department, a relationship that plays an important role in the Town’s recent recognition as California’s Safest City. That distinction reflects more than crime statistics. It speaks to a community where residents look out for one another, stay engaged,
and work closely with the officers who serve them.
collaboration that keeps Danville one of the safest places to live.
National Night Out is the perfect opportunity to host a neighborhood gathering or look for one happening nearby. If your neighborhood would like to participate, register your group through the National Night Out organization at natw.org. Neighborhoods that would like a Danville police officer to visit their event must also register at danville.ca.gov/nno by July 21. It is a simple way to take part in something meaningful and help continue the
Residents who want to continue building that connection with Danville Police can take the next step by attending the Fall Citizens Police Academy. This seven-week program offers a hands-on, inside look at local policing, covering everything from patrol procedures and investigations to crime scene processing and traffic enforcement. The academy is held Wednesday evenings with one Saturday session. Interested residents should apply by August 10 at danville.ca.gov/citizensacademy.

A summer of investment, infrastructure, and community connection
D
anville is entering a season of visible progress. Across town, construction projects are taking shape, from roadway improvements to new community spaces, all part of a long-term investment in Danville’s quality of life. While residents may notice more construction activity than usual this summer, each project reflects a shared goal of maintaining the character of our town while preparing thoughtfully for the future. The five projects highlighted below are just a few examples of the work underway throughout town. Each is different in scope, but they share a common purpose. Together, they reflect Danville’s continued commitment to thoughtful planning, responsible maintenance, and creating places where residents can move, gather, and connect.
A New Pavilion at the Town Green One of the most exciting projects on the horizon is the future pavilion at the Town Green, with construction scheduled to begin in August. The new pavilion will replace the existing structure with an upgraded community gathering space designed to better support the events and everyday experiences residents enjoy at the Town Green. The pavilion will enhance one of Danville’s most beloved public spaces, home to Music in the Park, Moonlight Movies, and many of the community events that help define summer in Danville. Whether residents are spreading out picnic blankets for a concert or enjoying a movie under the stars, the upgraded pavilion is designed to improve and elevate these experiences for years to come. Scheduled for completion in spring 2027, the new pavilion represents an investment not only in infrastructure, but in community connection. It reflects Danville’s continued commitment to creating welcoming public spaces where residents can gather, celebrate, and enjoy life together.
Upgrades Coming to Sycamore Valley Road One of the most visible projects this summer is the Sycamore Valley Road Improvements Project. As one of Danville’s key transportation corridors, Sycamore Valley Road serves thousands of drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians each day.

This summer, the Town will complete a new pavement surface from Camino Ramon to Camino Tassajara, improving ride quality and extending the life of the roadway. The project also includes replacement of green bike lane striping, the addition of a Class II buffered bike lane, ADA curb ramps, and an expanded sidewalk queuing area at the southeast corner of Camino Ramon for pedestrians and bicyclists using the Iron Horse Trail.
Next-Generation Traffic Signals The Town is preparing for the future through the Traffic Signal Modernization Project, Danville’s local component of the Countywide Smart Signals Project and a major 2026 initiative bringing next-generation technology to intersections throughout the community. The project includes upgraded video detection systems and adaptive traffic coordination, allowing signals to respond more efficiently to real-time traffic conditions. These systems are not surveillance cameras, do not record or store footage, and are used only to detect vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and buses in real time. For Danville, this technology means safer, more responsive intersections for everyone who uses them. Improvements are focused on key corridors including San Ramon Valley Boulevard, Danville Boulevard, El Cerro Boulevard, and Sycamore Valley Road. Real-time transportation data will help the Town plan future improvements for safer streets, bike lanes, and trail connections. The Countywide Smart Signals Project was formally kicked off in late May at the intersection of Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Tassajara, one of many locations in Danville where this technology is being implemented. Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10), who helped secure $1 million for Danville’s Traffic Signal Modernization Project, attended the event, which included a live demonstration of the system’s traffic flow and safety featuress.
Creating Space for Creativity The Town Studio will bring a new creative gathering space to Danville’s Arts District, further elevating the Town’s arts and culture scene. Construction is expected to begin in August on the approximately 2,100 squarefoot facility, which is designed as a flexible space for recreation programming, arts and culture activities, and hands-on creative experiences. The project includes a new maker space building with restrooms, along with an outdoor area featuring shade trellises, community tables, and additional seating. Scheduled for completion in fall 2027, the Town Studio will create new opportunities for residents to learn, make, gather, and connect through arts and culture in the heart of Danville.
Safer Crossings Along the Iron Horse Trail This summer will also bring important pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements along the Iron Horse Trail corridor. The project includes raised crosswalks at Paraiso Drive, El Capitan Drive, and Greenbrook Drive, along with upgraded high-visibility pavement markings and separated pedestrian and bicycle lanes at Sycamore Valley Road. These enhancements are designed to make trail crossings more visible, accessible, and comfortable for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. They also reinforce the Iron Horse Trail’s role as one of Danville’s most important connections between neighborhoods, parks, schools, and local destinations.
Investing in the Future While Enjoying the Present This summer represents more than construction. It represents momentum. The projects underway across Danville are investments in the roads residents travel, the trails that connect neighborhoods, the technology that keeps traffic moving, and the public spaces where community life happens. While construction may bring temporary impacts, the long-term benefits are lasting. These include safer streets, stronger connections, better-maintained infrastructure, and enhanced places to gather. As Danville continues to grow and evolve, these projects help ensure the Town remains connected, vibrant, and prepared for the future while preserving the small-town character residents value most. Residents can stay informed, follow construction progress, and share feedback on current and upcoming Town projects by visiting danvilletowntalks.org.

sk anyone from Danville what makes summer here so special and you are sure to hear a similar answer. It is the sense of community: it is neighbors gathering downtown, families filling the Town Green, friends reconnecting at favorite events, and the shared feeling that summer is better when we celebrate it together. This year, Danville Loves Summer invites you to celebrate the season, enjoy your favorite traditions, and make this summer one to remember. And here in Danville, summer in Danville truly kicks off with one of the Town’s biggest traditions, the KiwanisDanville 4th of July Parade in Downtown Danville. This year, the celebration carries extra meaning as communities across the country mark America’s 250th year. And the fun does not stop there. Fun continues with two favorite community traditions, Music in the Park and Moonlight Movies. These free events, held on the Danville Town Green in the heart of downtown, are the perfect way to spend a warm summer evening. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic, grab your lawn chairs, and settle in for nights filled with music, movies, and community fun. The summer concert lineup keeps the good vibes going with Mercy & The Heartbeats on July 11, playing pop hits from the ’70s through today, followed by
Dream Like Taylor on July 25, a Taylor Swift cover band bringing the songs fans know and love to the Town Green. Movie nights continue on select Fridays with pre-show fun beginning at 6:30 p.m., including movie-themed arts and activities before showtime at 8 p.m., or when lighting permits. Rounding out the season are two can’tmiss car shows that bring even more excitement to Downtown Danville. Then, on Sunday, September 20, Concours d’Elegance brings a full day of exotic vehicle, yacht, motorcycle, and vintage trailer displays, fine food, wine tasting, and raffles. For more than 20 years, this event has raised funds in support of Parkinson’s research and patient care, making it a fun day out for an important cause.
