Message from the Town Council
Spring and summer in Danville are seasons built for community, when longer days, warmer weather, and vibrant local events bring neighbors together to enjoy everything our beautiful town has to offer.
Behind the scenes, the Town has been hard at work preparing for the months ahead. Important infrastructure projects are making it easier and safer for residents to get around, including newly completed safety crossings along the Iron Horse Regional Trail and continued progress on the Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail (Page 2). Roadway improvements taking place throughout town are also helping ensure that Danville’s streets remain safe, accessible, and well maintained for everyone (Page 4).
As always, recreation plays a central role in the Danville experience. This issue highlights the incredible lineup of activities, camps, and enrichment programs available through the Town (page 6). From youth sports and summer camps to fitness classes and lifelong learning opportunities for adults, there are countless ways for residents of all ages to stay active, learn something new, and connect with others in the community. We are also proud to offer opportunities for teens to get involved, build leadership skills, and make a positive impact locally (Page 8).
With a full calendar of events, programs, and community gatherings ahead, we look forward to another memorable season. Danville continues to be a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place to live, work, and visit. We are excited to share the season with you.

In 1998, Claudia Ray joined the Town of Danville as a Senior Center volunteer, eager to serve the community. More than two decades later, that same people-first mindset still defines her work and earned her the honor of Danville’s 2025 Employee of the Year.
Today, she serves as the Town’s Maintenance Services Coordinator, a role she describes as one where “no two days are the same.” Known for her customer-oriented approach, her ability to build trust and rapport isn’t just a professional skill, but a part of who she is.
Claudia believes that gift for connection was shaped by a childhood spent living abroad. “Living abroad taught me to appreciate different perspectives, cultures, and ways of life. I think that helps me connect with people in my job today.”
Employee of the Year is a fitting recognition for someone whose career has centered on building connections across departments and the community she serves.
On the Right Path: Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail Takes Shape
Asspring arrives, construction on the long-anticipated Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail Project is back underway. In March, the Town completed tree removal along the route, marking the first stage of this new phase of work. The project will deliver a new 0.9-mile paved, multimodal trail connecting Diablo Road to existing trail networks leading toward Mount Diablo State Park. It also includes installation of a pedestrian-activated HAWK signal at Fairway Drive to enhance safety for those crossing the roadway.
Work will continue through the summer, and residents will begin to see the trail take shape in the months ahead, with the most visible construction activity occurring through summer and fall 2026. Bike to Wherever Day 2026
Even one bike ride can make a positive impact on personal wellness and the environment. That’s the idea behind Bike to Wherever Day, which in Contra Costa County takes place on Thursday, May 14. On this day, people are encouraged to swap a car trip for a bike ride to work, school, errands, or appointments. The event is part of May’s National Bike Month, and you can find out more about Bike to Wherever Day at 511contracosta.org.
Here in Danville, there are plenty of great options for getting out for a ride. The Town continues to invest in bicycle infrastructure through its Bicycle Master Plan, supporting safer and more accessible routes for riders of all ages and abilities. If the Iron Horse Regional Trail is your path through Town, you’ll notice upgraded crossings through Danville (see Page 5). As we celebrate this month, we invite everyone to ride safely, explore local routes, and experience how Danville is building a more connected, bike-friendly community.

Town Talks with the Mayor has returned with an all-new format for 2026. Mayor Newell Arnerich will host a monthly video podcast covering what’s happening around Danville, including upcoming Town projects, events, and other timely topics. SPRING IS SPLASH TIME
If you’re looking for an easy way to cool off and let the kids burn some energy, Danville’s water play features are back on for the season at Hap Magee Ranch and Sycamore Valley Parks. These child-friendly water features are user-activated and run from noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. The Town’s water play features typically remain operational until October 1 when they close for the season. However, weather conditions, including inclement weather or drought, may mean the Town will need to temporarily turn off these features during the season. Please check danville.ca.gov/waterfeatures before planning a visit.
DOG PARK UPDATE
The Canine Corral Dog Park at Hap Magee Ranch Park has reopened for the season with a refreshed makeover. The 1.5-acre dog park offers hours of leash-free fun and includes separate play areas for large and small dogs. The dog park closes every Tuesday morning until noon for regular upkeep, including mowing, irrigation repairs, and weed abatement. This weekly closure helps extend the turf’s lifespan and keeps the park operational throughout the season. For more information, visit danville.ca.gov/dogpark.
REPAIR CAFÉ
The Danville Community Center will host a Repair Café on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. At this free community event, residents can bring broken items such as clothing or small household appliances and work with volunteer repair coaches to fix them. Repair cafés help extend the life of everyday items, reducing waste while saving valuable resources and money.
SENIOR TRIPS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
Spring is bringing a few special senior favorites you won’t want to miss. Dress to impress at the Black and White Senior Ball on April 14, featuring a special dance performance, a photo booth opportunity, a best-dressed couple contest, and light refreshments. Then come hungry for National Pizza Party Day on May 15 with a pizza party and cookie decorating. Wrap up the season with a relaxing day trip to Sausalito on May 27 and spend a carefree day by the bay with scenic beach walks, great shopping, and dining at a local restaurant. Keeping Roads Safe in Danville
Danville consistently ranks among communities with some of the safest roads in the state, and 2026 is a major year for building on that strong foundation. The Town is making targeted investments in technology and infrastructure to keep Danville safe to navigate by car, bike, on foot, and other modes, while adding design features like physical separation that improve accessibility for everyone.
Danville continues annual investments in pavement management to keep roads in good condition and address maintenance needs before they become costly repairs. The Town tracks street quality using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), an industry-standard rating that helps staff identify where maintenance will have the biggest impact. Through routine maintenance and timely resurfacing each year, the Town extends the life of its streets and
improves day-to-day driving comfort and safety. A major example of this work is the Sycamore Valley Road Improvements Project. Sycamore Valley Road is one of Danville’s most important corridors, and this year the Town will deliver a new pavement surface from Camino Ramon to Camino Tassajara. Construction is scheduled to start and be completed this year, improving ride quality, enhancing safety, and keeping this key route reliable for the community.
Another high-impact 2026 improvement is the Town-wide Traffic Signal Modernization Project, which brings next-generation video detection and adaptive traffic coordination to key intersections throughout Danville. These upgrades help signals respond to real-time conditions, improving safety and traffic flow while reducing delays. This project will focus on key corridors including San Ramon Valley Boulevard,
Danville Boulevard, El Cerro Boulevard, and Sycamore Valley Road.
Keeping roads safe also includes shaping policies and securing resources that directly affect how residents travel every day. Through the Tri-Valley Mayors’ Advocacy group, local leaders are advancing e-bike safety and state reforms, including reclassifying high-powered e-bikes as e-motos and requiring safety education to better protect youth and other road users. The group also advocates for increased federal funding for local traffic safety improvements, which helps communities like Danville deliver projects that make streets safer.
Together, these efforts help protect what makes Danville special, a community where safety supports an active lifestyle and makes it easier to live locally, connect with neighbors, and enjoy all the Town has to offer.
Safety Spotlight: RRFBs in Action
Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon
ARectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) is a traffic safety feature that alerts drivers when someone is crossing the street by using bright, rapidly flashing LED lights at marked crosswalks. Construction was recently completed on seven intersections that now feature these devices to improve visibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists, including five at Iron Horse Regional Trail crossings throughout Town and two near San Ramon Valley High School and Monte Vista High School.

PCI: A Data-Driven Approach to Street Maintenance
Each year, the Town uses a data-driven approach to decide which residential streets to repair first. Danville’s street network includes approximately 27 million square feet of pavement, making it one of the Town’s most valuable and essential public assets. Streets are rated using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), a standard score from 0 to 100 based on visible wear such as cracking, raveling, and potholes, with higher scores indicating better pavement condition. These ratings allow the Town to track street conditions over time and identify the most cost-effective repairs.
Using the PCI data, the Town focuses on streets in the poorest condition and those likely to deteriorate quickly if not addressed. The goal is to make repairs at the right time, extending pavement life and helping avoid more expensive reconstruction later on. The final list is also shaped by practical considerations such as coordinating with planned utility work, construction scheduling, and available funding so the Town can deliver the greatest overall benefit each year.
What’s Ahead in Danville This Spring and Summer
As the days grow longer and the weather warms, Danville is stepping into one of its most vibrant seasons of the year. Spring and summer are about more than sunshine and blue skies. They are a time to get outside, explore the Town, and come together for the events and experiences that make Danville such a special place to live. This year, the stage is truly set for one of the most active and exciting seasons yet, with thoughtful preparation happening behind the scenes to help everyone get out, get around, and enjoy all the fun ahead.
In anticipation of more outdoor activity, Danville continues to invest in safer, more convenient ways to move through Town. Enhanced Iron Horse Regional Trail crossings, construction of the Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail, newly installed raised crosswalks, and continued progress on the Bicycle Master Plan are projects that help strengthen connections across the community. All roads and trails lead to fun as spring kicks off Danville’s busiest events season with opportunities for the community to laugh, dance, create and play together. In the heart of Danville, Prospect Park Plaza will have regularly scheduled activities through the spring and summer, continuing the “@ the Plaza” series. From themed craft activities to family games to live music, there will be plenty of reasons to visit Downtown.
While you’re there, you’ll also see the Town’s first permanent outdoor public art installation, Acorns of the Old Oak. Ten little bronze acorns were named through a public contest this year, and in addition to their own stories, they will soon have their own coloring book. For the littlest artists, Art in the Park brings creativity to Oak Hill Park May 16, inviting kids and families to enjoy hands-on, take-home crafts in a relaxed outdoor setting.
When music fills the Town Green, summer has officially begun in Danville. Music in the Park launches June 13, bringing free
Saturday night concerts, picnic dinners, and warm evenings under the stars. The series runs along with Moonlight Movies, creating spaces to gather, unwind, and enjoy summertime with your neighbors in Danville.
And as summer settles in, Danville’s renowned enrichment and traditional camps return with a full lineup of handson programs for kids and families. These subject-focused camps give participants the chance to explore new interests, build skills, and try something different in a fun, supportive setting. Many camps kick off right as school gets out, offering everything from film and video production to cooking, performing arts, science and technology, and a wide selection of sports.
Families can also count on Camp Danville for classic summer fun and Teen Day Trips for exciting outings that help teens stay active and connected. Together, these programs create an engaging summer experience where kids can learn, make friends, and stay inspired all season long.

As the school year comes to a close, teens have plenty of ways to stay involved in their community while building confidence, developing new skills, and staying connected locally. Danville offers opportunities throughout the season, from leadership and service experiences to fun, teen-focused events.
Lead the Way: Join the Danville Youth Council
For teens interested in leadership and community involvement, the Danville Youth Council offers a meaningful way to build real-world experience while making an impact. Members help shape programs and events for local teens, collaborate with peers, and learn how local government and community planning work in practice.

The Town of Danville is looking for young voices to help shape the future of Danville through service and creative leadership. Danville Citizens Police Academy
Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes of local law enforcement? From crime prevention strategies and patrol procedures to investigations and crime scene processing, the Danville Police Department is inviting the public to find out and learn through the Spring Citizens Police Academy.
The Spring Citizens Police Academy is an interactive, six-week program designed to give residents a firsthand look at how the department operates on a daily basis. Beginning April 15, participants will meet in person on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., with an additional Saturday session scheduled for April 25. Throughout the academy, attendees will learn directly from Danville Police Department staff and gain insight into the responsibilities and decision-making that support public safety in Danville. Along the way, participants will explore how the department approaches
safety efforts to what happens during a traffic stop, how cases move from initial response to followup investigation, and how evidence is documented and processed. The academy also offers a window into specialized areas such as impaired driving enforcement, the criminal prosecution process, and driver training, giving attendees a fuller understanding of the many roles involved in modern policing.
The Danville Police Department typically offers two Citizens Police Academy sessions each year, one in the spring and one in the fall, making it easier for community members to participate. Space is limited, and those interested are encouraged to apply early or join the interest list for future sessions.

OFFICER OF THE YEAR:
ALEJANDRO OLIVERA TRAFFIC OFFICER
Since joining the Danville Police Department, Officer Alejandro Olivera has become a familiar and approachable presence in Danville, often seen patrolling the streets on his police motorcycle. In 2025, Alejandro was named Danville’s Officer of the Year in recognition of his hard work, professionalism, and commitment to public service.
Alejandro’s path to law enforcement wasn’t a traditional one. Before becoming a police officer, he worked as a carpenter. One day, while swinging a hammer, Alejandro found himself thinking about how he could switch careers and spend his days on a motorcycle. That moment sparked a new goal of becoming a police motorcycle officer. Today, he’s proud to say he’s achieved it.
“I genuinely love being on a police motorcycle,” Alejandro shares. “Riding gives me a unique perspective of the Town and allows me to be more engaged with the community.”
Alejandro’s efforts have a direct and lasting impact on the community, helping create safer streets for families, students, e-bikers, and commuters. Together, that professionalism, approachability, and steady commitment to public safety make him a trusted presence in Town and a truly deserving Officer of the Year.
Spring Brings New Art to the Village Theatre Art Gallery
The hills and trees throughout Danville aren’t the only things blossoming this spring. An all-new art exhibition is bringing a fresh burst of energy and creativity to the Village Theatre Art Gallery. Aligned Again is a unique show featuring six women artists whose distinct approaches create an engaging blend of mediums, from bold, expressive pieces to more delicate, detail-driven works. The result is a dynamic, feelgood exhibition full of surprises that invites viewers to discover something new around every corner.
At its heart, Aligned Again explores the “invisible threads” that connect us through themes of connection, contrast, and creativity. Visitors will see how harmony can emerge from differences, and how art can tell stories, stir emotions, and reflect the shared experiences that make us human.
The Village Theatre Art Gallery’s spring exhibition opens with a reception on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to noon, offering a fun chance to be among the first to experience the show and celebrate the artists and the community. It is also a great moment to meet the artists, hear what inspired their work, and learn more about the ideas and hidden meanings woven throughout the exhibition. After opening day, Aligned Again will remain on view from through June 19, giving everyone plenty of time to stop by, take it in, and return for a second look.
Lend a Hand Day: Helping Seniors, Strengthening Community
The Town of Danville is calling on volunteers to roll up their sleeves and make a difference at the Lend a Hand Day Saturday, April 25. This annual tradition brings the community together to assist local seniors with yard work, helping them maintain their homes while fostering connections across generations.
For many seniors, keeping up with outdoor maintenance can be a challenge. By lending a hand, volunteers provide much-needed support while brightening the day of older residents who appreciate both the assistance and the friendly conversation. Tasks include raking leaves, weeding, spreading mulch, and other essential outdoor upkeep.
Volunteers aged 16 and older are encouraged to sign up, while those aged 12 and up can participate if accompanied by an adult. Participants can choose between a partial shift from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. or a full day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Whether you stay for a few hours or the entire event, your efforts will make a meaningful impact for many in our community. Another sure sign of spring? The reopening of the Canine Corral at Hap Magee Ranch Park. After the annual winter moratorium, the dog park is ready to welcome wagging tails once again. During the off-season, Town maintenance crews take advantage of the closure to reseed and nurture the lawn, improve turf health, and allow the grass to recover from heavy use. This behind-the-scenes care helps ensure a greener, safer, and more enjoyable space for dogs to run and socialize all season long.
