Table of Contents Fall 2021

Dear Danville, As I look upon the upcoming season, I cannot help but be inspired by this community and how it responded to the worldwide pandemic. Thank you for playing your part and doing what needed to be done to help us get through it all. I sincerely hope that you all are feeling as if we are on the road to recovery.

We are now strolling into fall, the season that I think best exemplifies change. Fall brings transitions. We see it as we move from summer camps to in-person school, from vacations to the office, from t-shirts to sweatshirts and all the way to bare streets now covered with fallen leaves signifying change, transitions, and cycles of life.

Our biggest upcoming change is that we are re-opening our doors and working towards providing programs and services as we did in pre-COVID times and hopefully better than before. It will be so nice to have you all back in our buildings and participating in what the Town has to offer.

This fall we also welcome a new member to our Recreation, Arts and Community Services team, Auggie the Acorn.

Auggie is our new mascot who is a descendant of our grand old oak tree. Make sure to say hi when you meet Auggie at our events or programs!

MONSTER MOVIE NIGHT: A HALLOWEEN DOUBLE FEATURE October 29 Coming to the Village Theatre this October, start off the Halloween weekend right with a double feature movie event!

Attention all teens: make your opinions count at the Danville Library! Applications available online or at the library beginning August 9th.

The Danville Library is pleased to announce that we’ll be accepting applications for the 2020-21 Teen Advisory Board beginning in the fall of 2021. We’re looking for creative and energetic volunteers, ages of 13-18, who want to make a difference! TAB members plan special events, help build the teen collection and assist the library in improving teen services. Applications are due back no later than Sept. 25 and students must be available to attend TAB meetings once a month and volunteer for a library program during the academic year.

THE PUPPET COMPANY: THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW

Wednesday, October 27 at 4 PM Join us for a (not too) spooky show suitable for all ages based on Washington Irving’s classic tale featuring Ichabod Crane, his love Katrina Van Tassel, the local bully Brom Bones, and of course, the Headless Horseman! The show is currently planned as a prerecorded virtual performance to be shown on the Contra Costa County Library YouTube channel and Facebook Page. No registration is required. In the event that we are able to have a live, in-library event the performance will be held in the Children’s Reading Room at the Danville Library in lieu of the virtual show.

It’s never too early to give your baby a musical start! This semester, we’ll enhance your loving bond as we teach your baby bird to sing in our “Bluebird, Bluebird” mini session. HAUNTING HALLOWEEN ART!

Be a part of the a community, uniting young Danville artists, singers, and actors! Open to 3rd through 5th graders and mentored by local high school students, participants will meet twice monthly. Each group will meet separately to work on projects specific to their particular interest. The DYAL was designed to provide artistically inclined young people with a creative outlet in a fun environment that encourages friendships and a sense of community with other like-minded individuals. This class is designed for beginners and starts off with introducing you to the basics of using, holding and writing with brush pens.

Students will learn the fundamental strokes, alphabets, letter connections and do final word compositions. Students will also learn to do background and embellishments. Introduce your child to the elegant, centuries-old game of Chess! Studies have shown clear academic, social and cognitive benefits for chess-playing children, but most importantly, it's fun!

This class focuses on teaching seniors important principles of self-defense. It includes ways that a cane can be effectively used for self-defense. This is not a martial arts class. The class will inform you of the many ways to protect yourself and remain safe.

Use of a cane for self-defense is not mandatory. Jim Donnelly, is a certified Senior Cane Self Defense instructor and holds a black belt in Shotokan Karate. He will be assisted by senior level cane self-defense practitioners.

Free "Welcome to Medicare" classes are for those who are new to or soon will enroll in Medicare, as well as family members or caregivers. Learn how, when and where to enroll, what Medicare covers, what it costs and how it coordinates with other coverage.

The class will also review how to find and select prescription drug and Medigap supplemental plans as well as Medicare Advantage plans. Materials are provided. These classes are presented by Contra Costa County Healther Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) volunteers and staff. HICAP is a volunteer-based program sponsored by Medicare, the California Department of Aging and Contra Costa County. Volunteers are registered with the California Department of Aging. Class registration form may be sent ahead of registration date. All class registrations submitted prior to the first day of registration will be entered on the appropriate registration date, with no priority given.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Town of Danville encourages those with disabilities to participate in our programs. If you have any special needs that require specific accommodations so you can fully enjoy our classes and programs, call (925) 314-3400.

COURSE CANCELLATION When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a class or program. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund. Check refunds may take 4–6 weeks.

Whenever possible, make-ups will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be cancelled. See instructor at next scheduled meeting for make-up date.

No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student.

WAITLISTS Waitlists will be created once a class has reached maximum enrollment. If space becomes available, you will be called.

WITHDRAWALS (CREDITS/REFUNDS) Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than seven business days prior to the first day of class. There will be a $5 withdrawal fee assessed for each activity.

Requests made less than seven business days prior to the first day of class must be submitted in writing and will be considered on an individual basis.

A $20 processing fee will be charged for processing refunds made by check. We do not provide cash refunds.

Withdrawals for sports leagues may be approved if a team can be replaced before the first game.

RESIDENCY STATUS CLARIFICATION Those living outside the Danville Town limits include residents of the communities of Alamo and Diablo, and Alamo Creek, Bettencourt Ranch, Blackhawk, Bryan Ranch, Monterosso, Shadow Creek and Whitegate housing developments.

The program and facility fees cover a large portion of the actual costs, though Town of Danville residents also partially support the classes, events and facilities through their property tax assessments. Because of this, those program participants and individuals reserving Town facilities who live outside of Danville pay an additional non-resident charge. Special Notice to Alamo Residents living in the Alamo County Service Area R-7A: all R-7A residents are eligible to register for Town-sponsored programs scheduled at Hap Magee Ranch Park during the resident registration period.
