Town of Brownsburg

Recognizes Employees of the Year

The Town of Brownsburg recognized two outstanding team members as part of its annual Employee of the Year Awards, honoring individuals who exemplify dedication, teamwork, and exceptional service to the community. This year’s honorees are Dave Albertson, named Ignitor of the Year, and Jamilah Vanholten, named Rookie of the Year.

Ignitor of the Year: Dave Albertson

Dave Albertson, Maintenance Technician III who has worked for the Town since 2010, was selected as the Ignitor of the Year for his exceptional work ethic and unwavering commitment to ensuring that Town facilities and events operate smoothly.

One of Dave’s most notable contributions was his leadership over the Brownsburg’s first Field of Honor event. From concept to execution, Dave took full ownership of the project, coordinating the layout and installation of 250 flags, preparing each component, mapping placements, and driving stakes. His countless hours of preparation allowed staff and volunteers to install the display smoothly and safely.

Beyond the Field of Honor, Dave’s dedication is evident yearround. He works to ensure Town operations continue without

interruption, handling snow removal, building preparation, system maintenance, and event support. He has also stepped in to manage critical contracts across multiple Town facilities, and regularly supports the Parks and Police Departments.

Rookie of the Year: Jamilah

Vanholten Jamilah Vanholten, Youth Services Manager, was named Rookie of the Year in recognition of her positive energy and immediate impact as a new team member. Since joining the Town of Brownsburg in February, Jamilah quickly became known for her preparedness, creativity, and ability to engage others with enthusiasm and professionalism.

During summer camp operations, returning staff praised Jamilah’s onboarding and communication as the best they had experienced, contributing to one of the most successful camp seasons to date. She demonstrates a strong understanding of cost recovery

and program goals, ensuring that planning is both creative and fiscally responsible.

“The Town of Brownsburg is fortunate to have employees like Dave and Jamilah who excel in their roles and elevate those around them,” said Town Council President Ben Lacey.

The Town congratulates both honorees and thanks them for their continued service.

College Ave. and Main St. Utility Improvements Project Named State Finalist for Engineering Excellence Award

The College Ave. and Main St. Utility Improvements Project has been recognized as a State Finalist in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Engineering Indiana Excellence Awards, honoring projects that demonstrate exceptional innovation, complexity, and community impact.

Designed in partnership with Wessler Engineering, the downtown infrastructure project addressed critical and aging water, sewer, and stormwater needs. The project included sewer separation to reduce combined sewer overflows, construction of a new stormwater outfall to White Lick Creek, replacement of aging water lines, 4,700 linear feet of storm sewer lines, and street and utility improvements coordinated with INDOT. By aligning these efforts through collaborative planning, the Town achieved significant cost and time savings while minimizing disruption to the public.

A key feature of the project was the use of innovative engineering solutions, including a stormwater siphon system that allowed crews to work around existing sewer interceptors while reducing excavation depth and protecting the surrounding floodplain. These solutions improved constructability and long-term system performance while preserving natural features near White Lick Creek.

This is the second consecutive year that a Brownsburg project has received State Finalist recognition from ACEC, following the Virgil Park project. Together, these honors reflect Brownsburg’s ongoing commitment to thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and high-quality investments that enhance the quality of life for residents.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LINCOLNWOOD PARK

The Town of Brownsburg purchased Lincolnwood Park, a 46-acre property from the Tague family, in June 2018. Located at 325 W. Main St., just west of the intersection of Green and Main Street, the expansive acreage has the potential for many community amenities.

In 2025, the Park Authority introduced the Lincolnwood Park Master Plan Process. The main goal of the Master Plan process was to explore potential quality of life development opportunities available at Lincolnwood Park. A major focus of the effort was to

Updates to Parks and Recreation Strategic Master Plan

In January, the Park Authority reviewed the Parks and Recreation Strategic Master Plan. This comprehensive plan will guide the development, management, and investment in parks and recreational facilities over the next five years.

The updated plan reflects extensive community input

address needs and deficiencies identified by previous public engagement efforts undertaken by the Town of Brownsburg.

The Master Plan for the park property includes walking and biking trails, natural drainage and floodplains, parking areas, an amphitheater, indoor and outdoor aquatics, and a recreation center.

After public meetings hosted throughout the summer, the Town Council approved the Lincolnwood Park Master Plan in August, along with baseline improvements for the property. Today, the Master Plan serves as an outline for the property,

gathered through public engagement events, stakeholder interviews, online surveys, and a statistically valid community survey.

Key priorities identified through this process include:

· Park Safety

· Sustainability

· Accessibility

· Infrastructure

· Maintenance

· Funding

· Public Engagement

but future phases of the park will undergo standard council approvals.

The approved baseline improvements include drainage, trails and updated parking. Work has started and is expected to be completed in the fall.

Looking ahead, the White Lick Creek Greenway, a 1-mile trail currently connecting Brownsburg’s business district to Arbuckle Acres Park, will extend from Arbuckle Acres Park to Lincolnwood Park. Design on the trail has not been completed at this time.

This updated Strategic Master Plan is a critical step in ensuring Brownsburg’s parks and recreation system continues to reflect the values, priorities, and vision of our community.

Report a pothole

It is common to see potholes pop up this time of year, as a result of the freeze and thaw cycles we experienced during the winter.

Our Street Department is consistently monitoring for potholes and patching them as they appear. If you see a pothole that hasn’t been repaired, please report it through the QR code.

Honoring the Retirement of K9 Caro and K9 Drago

After years of dedicated service to the Brownsburg community, K9 Caro and K9 Drago retired from the Brownsburg Police Department in January. Following nine years of extensive training, long hours, and demanding work alongside their handlers, both K9s are now enjoying well-earned retirement with their families.

Officer Dave Marcum and K9 Caro, along with Corporal David Shedrow and K9 Drago, were recognized with retirement plaques at the January Police Commission Meeting. We extend our sincere gratitude to K9 Caro and K9 Drago for their loyal service and lasting contributions to public safety in Brownsburg.

Dedicate a Flag in the 2026 Field of Honor

The Town of Brownsburg is excited to announce that flag sales for the Brownsburg Field of Honor will begin on Tuesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. This inspiring display of red, white, and blue invites community members to dedicate flags to honor veterans and active-duty military personnel, celebrating their service and sacrifice.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in a powerful tribute to our veterans,” said Town Council President Ben

Lacey. “Every flag carries the spirit of someone special and the meaningful story behind their service.”

This year, as America celebrates 250 years of freedom, Brownsburg’s Field of Honor will feature 26 official American flag designs, accompanied by a tag containing historical facts about that flag’s origin. In addition, visitors will witness 500 flags, 250 more than the previous year, on Town Hall Green. The display will be open to the public on Wednesday, October 29, through Wednesday, November 11.

A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10 a.m.

Proceeds from the flag sales will benefit a local fundraiser for veteran services and their families.

Flag dedications are $50 per dedication and include a tag on the flag, inclusion in the program guide, inclusion on field signage, a certificate, and an American flag at the end of the program.

“This field is a powerful way for our community to honor and remember the sacrifices of our heroes,” said Town Manager Deb Cook.

Dedicate your flag, beginning on June 23, at brownsburg.org/FieldofHonor.
