Mayor 's Message

After Blackfalds transitioned from the beautiful colors of fall leaves to a sudden blast of snowy winter, with our community enjoying various Halloween and holiday seasonal celebrations, I'm excited as I look ahead to 2024 and all the winter events and activities awaiting us. 2024 in Blackfalds kicks off with the New Year's Eve skate with the Bulldogs. It's a great way to warm up those muscles before the more dedicated skaters continue to enjoy the outdoor rinks. Our dedicated Snow Angels volunteers will be busy supporting friends and neighbours in need, while residents can relish the Christmas lights display at Tayles Park, where the Town hosted the 17th Annual Light Up Blackfalds!

2

|

For those who prefer indoor activities, the Abbey Centre will offer numerous fitness classes, try-it sports, and a bustling indoor running/walking track. There'll be a wide range of programming for both our young and vibrant living (50+) community members. Additionally, later in the winter months, the Town will host its annual Volunteer Appreciation event, Best of Blackfalds, and the ever-popular Easter Event. I encourage everyone to make the most of the various programs, events, and facilities we're fortunate to have in Blackfalds. Get out there and enjoy a Minor Hockey or AJHL Bulldogs game, and explore the new businesses that have opened in town this year.

Winter 2024 Program & Activity Guide

As always, you can stay updated on all activities, initiatives, and more on the town's website at www.blackfalds.ca or connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using #myblackfalds and #visitblackfalds. For a comprehensive list of events, check out the town's online events calendar at blackfalds.ca/events. Stay safe, warm, and active, and I'm looking forward to seeing you out and about this winter!

Mayor Jamie Hoover

ADULT WELLNESS Restorative & Nidra Yoga 45 minutes of Restorative Yoga helps to open facia, prevent injury, and increase mobility. It passively stretches the body without tension or strain on the muscles, ligaments, and tendons to promote flexibility, improve range of movement and create space in the joints. Restorative Yoga promotes well being, helps with insomnia, blood pressure regulation, circulation, stress management, weight loss, letting go of doing and just being. 30 minutes of Nidra works well with Restorative as it works on the central nervous system to help relax the body from the inside out. It is suggested that 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra is the equivalent of 3-4 hours of sleep. Small pillow, light blanket, mat and water bottle.

Stretch for Health Enjoy this gentle class to increase mobility, flexibility, and balance within the body. In this class you will develop overall posture and unwind the body with breath and movement.
