Fun for Everyone!
The Town of Assiniboia Recreation and Community Wellness Department curates activities and programs designed for individuals of all ages and abilities. In addition to our diverse programming, we host over 20 events annually for residents to enjoy.
These offerings are provided either free of charge or at a minimal cost. We collaborate with the community to create opportunities year-round across various facilities.

Construction on the Southland Co-op Centre began in April of 2021. Work involved building a two-story, more than 3,900 square metre facility, and associated works. The facility is now fully operational.
The new complex replaces Assiniboia’s existing ice arena built in 1956. The new multi-use facility includes a Teen Centre, NHL size ice rink, Walking Track, Multi-use Sport and Recreation room, Childrens play room, Climbing Walls, Simulator Room, Mini Stick Rink, state of the art concession, dressing rooms and a Lakota First Nation Education display.
Under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, the Government of Canada contributed up to $6,293,010 to the project and the Government of Saskatchewan contributed up to $5,243,651. The remainder of the project was funded by the Town of Assiniboia and through fundraising efforts by the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association, along with support from neighboring communities, rural municipalities, and many generous corporate and personal donors.

“Recreational facilities, especially in small towns become the meeting place for all to gather and create memories. This spectacular new structure rises up to that occasion. Assiniboia welcomes The Southland Co-op Centre as an intricate thread for our community and the surrounding area, weaving one more string into the heart of Assiniboia,” said Her Worship Mayor Sharon Schauenberg, Town of Assiniboia.

THINGS TO DO IN THE SOUTHLAND CO-OP CENTRE
Teen Center: Dive into gaming heaven with 4 PS5s, an Xbox, a gaming console, and a TV perfect for Netflix marathons. Designed for youth in grade 5 and up, this hangout is your after-school paradise for gaming, homework, board games with friends, all with the watchful eye of our friendly staff.
Climbing Walls: Scale our towering 32-foot climbing wall with four sections of adrenalinepumping fun! It's the ultimate challenge for both kids and adults to stretch their limits and conquer new heights.
Walking Track: Stroll or sprint on our second-level track, open and free all day, every day!
Kids Room: Let the little ones loose in this toy wonderland, complete with a TV to keep them entertained and giggling.
Mini Stick Rink: Grab your mini sticks for some pint-sized puck action! It's the ultimate arena for off-ice competitions and friendly rivalries.
Simulator Room: Step into a world of virtual fun with games galore, including golf, hockey, baseball, zombie dodgeball, soccer, and more. Plus, join our fall and winter golf leagues for a swingin' good time!

We are thrilled to provide FREE public skating and shinny throughout the entire season. Skates and helmets are available for borrowing at no charge as well.

We also organize tournaments for all minor age groups, ensuring our rink is always buzzing with activity!
We are home to the Assiniboia Skating Club, this is a talented group of coaches and individuals who dazzle us with their year end performance on ice!
In September, we are honored to host the WHL Moose Jaw Warriors preseason game and run a 3-on-3 hockey program for five weeks, offering kids an early chance to hit the ice. Additionally, we welcome numerous city teams that enjoy playing in our facility.
Events on the ice include, Twinkle Skate, Telemiracle Skate-A-Thon and paint the ice!
The Town of Assiniboia oversees nine ball diamonds located as follows: Fairgrounds: 4 diamonds, High School: 2 diamonds, AES: 2 diamonds, 7th Avenue School: 1 diamond
Assiniboia Minor Ball features players of all ages participating in both baseball and softball. Over the last three years, we have proudly secured provincial titles!
In 2025, we hosted the Senior Men's Provincials, where our Assiniboia Aces triumphed as the Provincial Champions.

The Assiniboia Aquatic Centre is the ultimate spot to enjoy during the summer months!
We offer swimming lessons for all ages, Advanced Aquatics classes, and endless hours of fun!

Join us for late-night swims every second Friday, celebrate Christmas in July, and enjoy a lively pool party featuring a foam party and DJ!
