theTownofAssiniboiawas incorporatedin1912, foundedonthearrivalof theRailway

Long before Assiniboia became a town, the land was a meeting place - open prairie where Indigenous peoples, including the Assiniboine, travelled, gathered, and traded The wide sky, the rolling grasslands, and the natural routes across the south‐central plains made this a place where people connected long before roads or rail lines existed.
The modern story of Assiniboia begins with a burst of prairie ambition On October 12, 1912, the Canadian Pacific Railway opened 980 town lots for sale People lined up through the night, and by morning the quiet prairie had transformed into a bustling new settlement Within a year, Assiniboia was incorporated as a town, its population swelling as farmers, tradespeople, and entrepreneurs arrived to build a life around the promise of fertile land and a growing rail network.
Agriculture quickly became the town’s backbone Grain elevators rose along the tracks, and the rhythm of seeding and harvest shaped daily life Even during the hardships of the 1930s, the community’s determination never wavered. When jobs were scarce, local leaders hired residents to build the town’s sewer system an act of both necessity and compassion that showed how Assiniboia has always cared for its own.
As the decades passed, Assiniboia grew into a regional hub Families from a variety of backgrounds made their homes here, weaving together a community defined by hard work, generosity, and neighbourliness. The town’s location at the junction of Highways 2 and 13 strengthened its role as a gathering place a spot where people came to shop, learn, celebrate, and connect.
Today, Assiniboia is home to 2,333 residents who carry forward the same spirit that built the town more than a century ago. Its agricultural roots remain strong, but so does its commitment to recreation, arts, safety, and regional leadership. Volunteers continue to be the heartbeat of the community, stepping forward to coach, build, organize, and support one another in ways that make the town feel both safe and welcoming
Assiniboia’s story is still unfolding written by longtime residents who have shaped the town for generations and newcomers who bring fresh energy and ideas. Together, they create a community that is inclusive, vibrant, and proud of the place they call home.

Property taxes don’t have to feel confusing and we’re here to make the process as simple, friendly, and stress‐free as possible Here’s a fun, easy guide to the most common questions we hear at the Town Office
1. What’s a Prepayment Property Tax Notice?
It’s your chance to save money by paying early! Prepayment discounts apply if you pay within the listed deadlines.
2. How Are Prepayment Notices Sent?
You choose! Regular Mail or E‐Notice (email) and we highly encourage signing up for this quick, eco‐friendly option
3. Why Do Mailed Notices Go to Regina First?
Canada Post sorts large batches at their Regina centre before sending them back to Assiniboia for delivery. It’s all part of the system.
4. When Do Official Property Tax Notices Come Out?
They’re mailed in May, after Town Council approves the annual operating budget and taxes are officially levied
5. If Official Notices Come Out in May, How Are Prepayment Notices Calculated?
Easy they’re a duplicate of the previous year’s official tax notice.
6. What Discounts Are Offered? Discounts apply to the municipal portion only
Payment received by the following dates will receive these discounts
January 31 - 3.0% | February 28 - 2.5%
March 31 - 2.0% | April 30 - 1.5%
A little early planning = real savings.
7. Where Do I Find My Discount Amounts?

Did you know? It takes 2-3 days for your online payment to reach our office.

Look at the lower section of your prepayment notice corresponding to the deadline month

. 8. How Can I Pay My Property Taxes? Lots of options: At your financial institution Online via web banking In person at the Town Office (cash, cheque, debit) Drop‐off box at the Asaskan Complex (131 3rd Ave W)

9. Paying Through Your Bank? Allow Extra Time! Online or in‐branch payments take 2–3 business days to reach us. Pay early to make sure you don’t miss your discount.
10. Can I Pay by Credit Card?
Not at this time. Credit card fees would have to be passed on to all residents and we want to keep costs fair
11. Any Helpful Tips?
Yes! If paying by debit, check your daily limit property taxes can exceed standard debit limits
Your early payments, your questions, and your attention to detail help keep our community running smoothly. We’re always here to help just give us a call or stop by anytime.

You don’t have to wait for a bill to land in your mailbox you can make Property Tax or Utility payments anytime throughout the year Property tax prepayments simply sit on your account as credits until taxes are levied, and for utilities, a little goes a long way Since water bills go out every two months, lots of residents make small payments every payday to keep things easy, predictable, and stress‐free. It’s budgeting… the Assiniboia way.

Assiniboia is full of animal lovers, and that’s something to celebrate We hear from many residents who want to help keep our neighbourhoods safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone pets included.
To support that shared goal, here are a few friendly reminders from our Animal Bylaw that help keep our community running smoothly:
All dogs and cats must wear a collar and a current pet license Licenses for the current year are available at the Town Office during regular hours They’re inexpensive, easy to get, and they help us return lost pets home quickly and safely.
Dogs and cats are not permitted to roam at large. Dogs must be leashed when off your property. Cats must be safely tethered or contained. It’s a simple way to be a great neighbour and prevent unwanted surprises in gardens, yards, and public spaces
Picking up after your pet keeps our parks and walkways clean and prevents the spread of disease A few seconds of care makes a big difference for everyone who shares our beautiful community spaces.
We all love our pets but it’s good to remember that one person’s beloved companion may be another person’s unexpected visitor. By following these basic guidelines, we help ensure Assinibo ng, and enjoyable place for all

From quiet evenings to well‐kept yards and safe backyard fires, these simple guidelines make a big difference Here’s a cheerful snapshot of what the bylaw covers:
A little quiet time helps everyone recharge.
Weekdays: Please keep noise down between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Sundays & Holidays: Quiet hours extend to 9 a.m. Your neighbours (and their pets!) appreciate it.
A tidy yard makes the whole community shine
Keep grass under 20 cm (8 inches)

Spring and summer in Assiniboia are pure magic green lawns, colourful gardens, and neighbours out enjoying the sunshine. To help us all make the most of our water system and keep our community looking its best, here’s a cheerful reminder of our watering guidelines under Bylaw 04/09.
To make sure everyone gets the water they need (and to help conserve it!), watering is allowed during the coolest, most efficient times of day:
5 am – 9 am
6 pm – 10 pm
Your plants will love you for it.
We keep things simple and fair by watering based on your civic address:
ODD-numbered homes = ODD days
EVEN-numbered homes = EVEN days
It’s an easy way to share the system and keep our neighbourhood thriving. New Lawn? We’ve Got You!
If you’ve just planted a new lawn, you can apply for a watering exemption permit completely FREE at the Town Office We’re happy to help your fresh grass get off to a great start
Your care, cooperation, and pride in your yards help make our community shine Together, we’re creating a town that’s vibrant, welcoming, and beautiful all season long dutch elm disease
The Town of Assiniboia has been working closely with Lee’s Tree Service, trained arborists, to help identify and safely remove trees affected by Dutch elm disease in our community and the surrounding area Their expertise is helping us protect one of our community’s greatest assets our beautiful urban forest
We all play a part in keeping Assiniboia’s trees healthy Here’s what you can do:
Check your yard and back alleys for any stored elm firewood
Remove and dispose of elm firewood immediately it is illegal to store or transport elm wood in Saskatchewan, and fines are significant
If you’re unsure whether a tree or firewood pile contains elm, give us a call at the Town Office: 306‐642‐3382 We’re happy to help verify
Learn more about Dutch elm disease, including symptoms and prevention tips, by visiting: saskatchewanca/ /forest /dutch-elm-disease
Reduce the risk of spreading the disease, pruning elm trees is prohibited from April 1 to August 31 under provincial regulation.
This seasonal pause helps protect our trees during the time they’re most vulnerable. Your vigilance and care make a real difference.

Welcome to Winter in Assiniboia Here’s How We Keep Our Community Snow‐Ready!
If you’re new to Assiniboia, here’s a friendly winter tip: around here, everyone helps keep our community safe by clearing their sidewalks after a snowfall When you shovel your driveway or walkway, please place the snow on your own property not on neighbouring yards or Town property and remember to clear the full width of your sidewalk within 24–48 hours of a weather event It’s a small act that makes a big difference for kids walking to school, seniors out for fresh air, and anyone navigating our winter wonderland
Thank you to all the residents and business owners who take the time to shovel and to the neighbours who lend a hand when someone needs it Whether you’ve lived here forever or just arrived this year, we appreciate you helping keep Assiniboia safe, welcoming, and wonderfully winter‐ready
And of course a special shout‐out to our Public Works Crew, who are widely known (and proudly believed) to be the best snow‐removal team in all the land When the storm hits, they’re already out there making magic
During the time of year when meltwater starts moving and our Public Works crew is out steaming catch basins to keep everything flowing smoothly. You’ll see them making their way around town give them a wave when you can! See a Blocked Catch Basin? Let Us Know!
If you notice a catch basin that needs attention, just give the Town Office a call at 306‐642‐3382. All we need is the location a street address or the nearest intersection works perfectly. With 200 catch basins in our community, your extra set of eyes makes a big difference.
Help Us Help You!
A little neighbourhood teamwork goes a long way. Keeping the area around catch basins clear of: Snow | Ice | Debris
…helps meltwater flow where it’s supposed to go and keeps sidewalks and streets safer for everyone.
Your patience, your calls, and your care for your neighbourhood help keep our community running smoothly. Together, we make spring melt a whole lot easier

We all rely on our sanitary sewer system every single day and when it’s working well, nobody even notices it. A little teamwork from all of us keeps everything running beautifully. Here’s how we can help protect our system (and avoid costly backups!):
Our sewer system is designed for water, human waste, and toilet paper only. Everything else belongs in the trash or proper disposal.
Please keep these items OUT of toilets and drains:
Cloth rags or towels including blue shop towels
Baby wipes, toilet wipes, disinfecting wipes, or any type of wipe (even if labeled “flushable”)
Medications of any kind
Feminine hygiene products
Grease especially cooking grease
Garden chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers)
Paint, varnish, paint remover
Motor oil, gasoline, or any flammable/explosive materials
Even small amounts of these items can cause big problems in the sewer system.
All of the items above should be thrown in the trash or disposed of through proper recycling or hazardous‐waste programs. Sharing this info with everyone in your home or business helps keep our system healthy.
Your care and cooperation help prevent blockages, protect infrastructure, and keep our community running smoothly. When we all do our part, everyone benefits.
