We are committed to investing in professional opportunities for people in our community and beyond. That’s why we helped bring the Stand Up Rural America conference to Somerset in 2022, which attracted 200 participants from across the country and showcased our community and the best ideas in economic development.

Solving the workforce crisis through innovation

SPEDA is dedicated to growing a strong workforce, and education is a crucial component. We introduced a new program in 2022 that allows teachers to learn first-hand from local industries what their workforce needs are, in hopes educators can build a curriculum to match them.

Want to know if you are exposed to RADON in your home?

Researchers at the University of Kentucky are conducting a research study to learn more about how environmental conditions affect radon levels inside homes. Participants are invited to take a brief survey and test their home for radon. In addition, participants will help promote a radon detector kit library loan program and work with others to encourage radon testing and mitigation in their community.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

• Live in Pulaski County, Kentucky

• Are age 21 or older and own your home

• Are not planning to move in the next 1 year

• Are willing to test your home for radon

• Have access to a mobile smart phone

• Have ready access to the internet

• Are able to read and speak English

Research participants will be compensated for taking part in the study.
