Earlier this year, Derek and his mother Jani Meyers, who serves as a vice president of mortgage lending, made the move to Guaranteed Rate. Both had years of experience working at banks, but Derek notes they were ready for a change. “The transition offered both of us a lot of potential for growth,” he says. “The tools and support the company has are fantastic, and it is doing progressive and innovative work in the lending world.” Jani says they wanted to be part of the company’s growth. “It also was important for us to be able to work with the latest technology and programs,” she adds.

With more than three decades of experience in the field, Jani understands the importance of putting people first. “Through the mortgage process, my clients become family, and that’s one of my biggest advantages,” she says. “I make sure I ask the right questions so I understand their needs and dreams and can ensure they get what they want.”
While some people may be thrown off by the idea of working with family, that’s not the case for this mother-son duo. Both Derek and Jani note that not only has working together fostered professional growth, it has allowed them to become closer as well. “I love to come to work, and it’s been fun to grow professionally with my oldest child,” she says. “We learn from each other every day. While we bring different strengths and resources to the table, our mission statement is the same: Treat people like you would want to be treated.”
The Meyers both live in Chesterfield, and they are excited to help grow the community they’ve worked in and enjoyed for years. “St. Louis is a big little town,” Jani notes. “It’s a very connected community, and everybody is important. That’s the approach we take at Guaranteed Rate. We are committed to helping you, whether you’re looking for a $50,000 loan or a $5 million one.”
While the Guaranteed Rate’s local branch is dedicated to helping St. Louisians, Derek says the support goes both ways. “We are blessed to have wonderful referral partners and clients,” he explains. “I can’t stress enough how supportive they’ve been, especially during personal hardships our family has faced. That’s one of the things that makes St. Louis unique. It’s more than a business relationship. The people we work with become friends and family.” &
