As your new Commodore, I am excited about establishing the GPYC committees for 2022. Committees provide the Board of Directors and management valuable input for programs and services. They also bring forward new ideas that can be implemented to improve the member experience. Before the 2022 GPYC Committees begin their work, I want you to know about changes to our committee system and invite your participation in a Club committee.

The first change is the implementation of a Club Communication Team. All messaging to the membership will be reviewed by this team prior to distribution. This will help us strive toward a standard of improvement and excellence in GPYC communications. Another change is organizing our eighteen regular committees into three groups: Athletics, Member Experience, and Operations. In addition to regular monthly committee meetings, these “sister” committee chairs and staff liaisons will meet monthly with the Communication Team to establish priorities and coordinate communication plans. New committees have also been established. They are Fitness, GPYC Merchandise, Culinary Excellence, Entertainment Programming, Information Technology and Grounds & Gardens. These new and exciting committees are all designed to significantly increase member engagement and membership value at the Club. These committees need members that have specific skills and experiences related to that subject. Please contact the committee chair if you feel you can contribute to the mission. All committee chair emails are listed on both the website and the app on the “Member Committees” page. Finally, we are putting renewed emphasis on member experience through the committees for Member Programs and Social Activities. These two committees are each responsible for planning multiple programs, events and activities. They represent an ideal opportunity for members looking to get involved in the Club as well as new members wanting to meet new people. As we look forward to 2022, I invite you to consider putting your interest or professional expertise to work for the benefit of the GPYC. Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to join with other members to benefit our Club community and give back to a place many of us call our second home. Sincerely,
Jason J. Grobbel GPYC Commodore

NOTES FROM THE MANAGER FOMO – Snowbird Edition We have all heard the acronym FOMO used in pop culture, which stands for “Fear of Missing Out.” Traditionally, the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club would have a period of time in the winter months where it would shut down completely or partially, but we are going full steam ahead and have a schedule of activities that will keep you engaged and create FOMO for all the snowbirds! Engagement begins with great leadership, and I am pleased to say that our committees have never been so pumped up to deliver fantastic member experiences in athletics, social activities, facilities, and other areas. If you are interested in joining a committee, please visit our website at gpyc.org and click on “Member Committees” under the Member Central Tab. There, you will be able to submit your name for consideration in joining a committee. For some real winter fun, make plans to attend the annual Winter Blast on Saturday, January 22, featuring indoor and outdoor activities as well as amazing themed food, beverages and shenanigans! Speaking of outdoor activities, the Club will feature an ice rink in January and February as well as Trap Shooting now through March in the Harbor. We have also reinvented our dining options based on feedback we received from you, our members. I hope you have had a chance to visit the new Spinnaker, our upscale dining venue featuring an ever-changing menu that rivals the finest in the area while maintaining a lesser price point to deliver value to our membership. Our new Executive Chef, Eric Voigt, and his team are constantly offering new and exciting items on this menu making it the perfect place to entertain friends, family, and clients. The Spinnaker is open every week Thursday Saturday for dinner. Reservations are encouraged and the attire policy is strictly enforced. Jacket is required for men and is to be worn with a collared dress shirt or sweater/knit shirt. Dress slacks or tasteful dress denims are allowed. Tee shirts are not allowed. Women should wear comparable attire. We are also on the verge of opening our new casual dining venue in the renovated Main Dining Room, featuring a fast and friendly menu with an amazing bar where you can watch the game on TV, relax with friends, and enjoy panoramic views of Lake St. Clair. The MDR will be open Wednesday - Sunday for lunch and dinner will feature our amazing Sunday Brunch. The MDR is casual in every way. Attire in keeping with the character of the Club in a casual environment is appropriate. Dress denims and modest athleisure wear are acceptable. Tee shirts are not permitted for adults. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at the Club. Smooth Sailing

STAFF

SPOTLIGHT
After a thorough search and vetting process, the Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Chef Eric Voigt as its new Executive Chef. The Club's search came down to three very talented individuals and in the end, Chef Eric set himself apart and was chosen as our next Executive Chef based on his positive attitude, culinary talents and accomplished resume. Chef Eric is currently the Executive Chef at Big Rock Chophouse in Birmingham, Michigan. He oversees the restaurant operations and a separate event venue called The Reserve that hosts large scale functions. The owners of these properties are retiring and have decided to sell to commercial developers who will be building condominiums in that location. Chef Eric is going to see it through to the last day of operation on December 23 and then transition over to the GPYC on January 1. Chef Eric is an extremely committed individual that promotes positive culture and leads by example. He spent the last 10 years at Big Rock Chophouse and prior to that he spent almost 7 years at Tribute Restaurant, which was considered one of the finest restaurants in the region. When Chef Eric isn’t at work, he enjoys cooking big dinners for his family and is an avid runner. He is always looking for marathons to participate in and enjoys a healthy, active lifestyle.
Top left clockwise: Chef Eric Voigt, Chef Christina Wood, Deborah Saint Amand.
Chef Eric has been featured in Michigan Blue Magazine, Hour Magazine, Style Magazine, Dessert Professional, The Detroit Free Press, and a book called Plating for Gold. He also has appeared on many local Detroit television stations performing special demonstrations including WDIV-TV Channel 4 (NBC) and WXYZ-TV Channel 7 (ABC). He currently resides in Birmingham, Michigan with his wife, Laura, and three children.
Live LIFE fully COVERED
Chef Eric will be reigniting our pastry program as well by bringing his award-winning Pastry Chef Christina Wood on board. Chef Christina will be making wedding cakes, birthday cakes, fresh breads, and dessert creations. Please stay tuned as the Club plans on hosting several events to allow Chef Eric and Chef Christina to meet the membership and get to know everyone.

January. There are 27 boat wells available for the upcoming boating season. I am confident the Harbor will be full again this year. If you happen to know a boater who is a perfect candidate for membership, I encourage you to refer them while there are boat wells available. For those of you who will be traveling South in the winter and spring to get away from the chilly temperatures, please be reminded that I am happy to arrange for reciprocal dining privileges at private yacht clubs. SPORTS Fitness Center
Exciting Times Ahead
Despite the last two years being everything short of normal, the Fitness Center and its programs had a fantastic 2021. The gym is being used by more than 1/3 of our members on a consistent basis, which led to the addition of a couple new staff members: Taytum Myers, our personal trainer, and Kathleen Wolney, our yoga instructor. If you haven’t had the chance to train with Taytum or practice with Kathleen, I highly recommend it! Both women bring a lot of health and wellness expertise to the Club. I am excited to have them on board. The high demand of the Fitness Center has also led us to form the Fitness Committee, led by member Anthony Ventimiglia. Ventimiglia is a regular at the Fitness Center, and he is helping plan a few exciting offerings in the new year. “In 2022, we will continue to satisfy our members’ fitness needs by adding more events, classes, and competitions to make our fitness community grow,” Ventimiglia said. “Starting with a new ‘Back to Basics’ course for new or past gym goers who want to get started on their strength training. This will cover basic movements, exercises, and workouts,” Ventimiglia added. “Additionally, to maintain the level of prestige that the GPYC represents, we will regularly be sharing gym etiquette tips. These will show you how to maintain a healthy, safe, and friendly environment in the Fitness Center,” Ventimiglia also said. “Along with our already successful yoga program, we are going to introduce a ‘Rest and Relaxation’ program, starting with massage sessions by a professional masseuse in the Tower "Spa". Keep an eye out for our first Spa Day coming soon!” Ventimiglia concluded.
Saturday Open Bowling
in the Wednesday and Thursday Night leagues along with the Thursday Morning Ladies. If you are interested in bowling in our GPYC Bowling program, send me an email for more information. Our leagues are geared towards members having fun. You do not need to be an established bowler to participate. The night leagues start at 6:30 p.m. and the Thursday Morning Ladies start at 10 a.m. Bowling in the winter is a great way to enjoy your Club. The leagues end in April just in time to put the boat in the water and enjoy the summer. Open bowling during winter months is on Friday and Saturday nights, as long as the BRC isn't booked for a private event. We are looking to expand the hours on Saturday and Sunday’s starting in January. Look for details in the Weekly Buzz. On January 8, we will have an interclub bowling tournament with the County Club of Detroit, and on February 5, we will have one against the Detroit Golf Club. On January 22, the Club hosts Winter Blast. Bowling will be available that day from 6 p.m. to midnight. Hosting a bowling party is a great way to entertain any guests you have in town. If you are interested in hosting a bowling party, contact our talented catering office and schedule your event. Thank you for supporting GPYC bowling. Gordy Wood Director of Bowling Operations

HARBOR
By: Harbor Chairman Chris Izzi
Commodore Grobbel has asked the 2021 Harbor Committee to remain the same as the 2022 Harbor Committee. We are looking forward to the opportunity to serve another year. As committee chair, I have established a core group of members to serve on the committee. The 2022 Harbor Committee will be working close with Harbormaster Alex Turner and his team to continue to provide an unparalleled Harbor experience. By this time, the Harbor will be secured for winter. Alex and the Harbor team have been hard at work winterizing the Harbor with the installation of the ice eaters. Ice eaters will help reduce winter ice damage to the docks that we have witnessed in past years. They have also relocated dock boxes and trash cans so the winter wrath does not wash them overboard as in the previous years due to high water. Now that winter has settled in and the holidays are behind us, our Harbor is in the process of much-needed, extensive improvements. New wells on Tee, Hickory, Gas, Moby and Bridge Dock will have

floating docks much like we see in most state Harbors. The pedestals on the new floating docks will have GFI protection as required. Harbor Master Alex Turner and the Harbor Committee are asking membership not to add any additional hardware, cleats, hooks or posts to the new floating docks unless approved. You can view the updated Harbor diagram on the website as well as the GPYC App. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at the email below to discuss. We also have a live feed of Harbor improvements via the cameras we have set up in the Harbor. Log into the website or app to see what construction is going on every day. If you are looking for a well at the GPYC or relocating within the Harbor, be sure to check out the Harbor postings on the website and the app for available wells. Slip lease agreements for the 2022 boating season have been mailed out – be sure to complete the form and return it to the Harbor Office. If you did not receive a renewal, please advise the Harbor Office at

313-640-7000. Slips are at a premium, and we will do our best to be accommodating to all our members’ needs. Regarding insurance for your vessel moored at the Club: the GPYC needs to be listed as an additional insured on your policy and Alex will need a copy for Harbor records. There is no additional cost to add the GPYC to your policy. January and February are the time we start thinking of spring, warm weather and checking off that list of things to do on our boats to ready her for spring launch. We will do our best to ensure all members have a problem-free boating season. Communication from members is key to accomplishing a clean, safe Harbor. Members’ thoughts and comments are always welcome. We hope we hear from you. You can email me at cizzi@utsitech.com. Christopher Izzi Harbor Chairman 2022 Harbor Committee
