I am happy to report Harbor construction is complete and boats have filled the Harbor. What a wonderful way to kick off Summer 2022 at the GPYC. I think you will agree that summer is the best time here at the club. The pool is open, and the Gazebo Bar, Harborside Grill and Binnacle Terrace are in full swing. There is plenty of action on our pickleball and tennis courts as well. In addition to all of this you will find a full agenda of activities coming up this month. June 17, In Harbor Rendezvous and Movie Night; June 19, Father’s Day Brunch; June 30, Old Club Dinner Cruise, all great events for boating and social members alike.

NOTES FROM THE MANAGER Renovations and Innovations in Action Welcome to the most exciting summer in the Club's recent history! Not only are we excited to operate the Club without any restrictions due to covid regulations, but we are also debuting some of the most exciting renovations and innovations for our members to enjoy. Over the winter months the Club saw record numbers in a la carte dining thanks to the newly renovated MDR. Members now have a fun and casual venue to visit year-round featuring a lively bar and an upscale, but fast, casual menu. Look for all new furniture arriving the first week of July including new dining chairs and some handsome varnished wood tables to complete the theme in the MDR. During the summer months the Club will be featuring the MDR for casual dining on Wednesdays-Sundays. With a full focus on the breathtaking views of the lake, the Binnacle and Binnacle Terrace will also be available to you. With activity levels at an all-time high, please don’t forget to make reservations whenever possible. The Club is now on OpenTable for a la carte reservations, which makes making reservations only a few clicks away! I am also happy to announce that the Harborside Grill received some upgrades in that we have all new furniture for dining as well as the pool deck areas. The HSG menu will refresh monthly and include a schedule of fun themes and satellite grill stations to allow for the most efficient service. Without a doubt our most prized renovation is our Harbor. Our new state of the art floating dock systems has completely changed the aesthetics, maintenance, and member service of our facility. The aesthetics are obvious, but the fact that the docks are floating means that we will not need to adjust the dock setups with the rise and fall of the water levels to accommodate members getting on and off boats. The docks will always be adjusting. The Floating Docks will also make for less maintenance due to winter damage. The Harbor changes are not just physical this year though. The Club has introduced a new way to communicate. Our new Concierge Service through texting will revolutionize our services. Have you ever visited a hotel and had them text you asking how you experience is going? The text service comes from their front desk and allows you to order room service and maintain a direct connection with their team. The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club has launched this for you at the Club! Simply save the following number in your mobile phone and text any needs during operational hours. You will get an immediate response from our team. The number is (313) 306-2437. Save it as “GPYC Concierge” in your phone and start texting! You may want to order a bag of ice to be delivered to your boat or a carry out order. Don’t have the carry out menu to reference? Request the menu via text and our team will send it to you. Have a question about an upcoming event? You can text that to our team as well. Welcome back to our NEW Great Harbor!

Boat Rental Program:

As you can see our harbor is filling up fast and excitement is in the air for the 2022 boating season.

Entrance Buoys: The entrance buoys have been installed for the season outside of the entrance to the Harbor. Alex has had a few inquiries regarding the proper procedure when entering and leaving the Harbor. Please keep the following in mind: • When leaving or entering the harbor please stay between the Red and Green buoys. • The area between the outer buoys and the harbor entrance is a no wake zone. • Boats leaving the harbor have the right a way. • Cutting between the buoys is not permitted by any type of vessel! • Vessels have “right of way” at the East Swing bridge and the West Swing Bridge. Vessels are to hail the Harbor office via V.H.F. Channel 9 or call 313-640-7000 to open or close either swing bridges. • Please remember to advise the harbor office of when you are expected to bring your vessel into the club for the season.

Harbormaster Alex Turner will have completed staff training by the time this is released, and the “A” team is prepared to help you in any way they can to make your time in the Harbor an enjoyable experience. Rebuilding of the Harbor is completed, Maintenance around the harbor is still on going. If there are any issues or concerns, please contact the harbor office as most items on our check list are completed. Alex and the “A” team have pulled more than 190 ice eaters out of the water, cleaned, repaired, and stored them for the next winter season and are doing an exceptional job getting the Harbor ready for memberships 2022 boating season. Harbor posting are going well as most of our wells are occupied. Check the App or website for the latest posting. Remember to include the GPYC as an additional insured on your insurance policy and have a copy sent to Alex Turner at aturner@gpyc.org. Concierge Service: To use the NEW GPYC Member Concierge Service simply text your request to 313-306-2437 and one of our staff will text you back to confirm.

Some boating phrases and Cliché’s back in the day!! Scuttlebutt - To discourage workers idle chit-chat at the ship’s water barrel, the drinking ladle had little holes in it so the water would leak if the sailor didn’t drink it up fast. The holes were called scuttles. Passed with Flying Colors - Refers to a sailing ship that distinguished itself by flying all of its pennants and flags (called "colors") when passing other vessels. Kicking off the Swim Team Season

The GPYC Sailfish Swim Team kicked off their season with a Cinco De Mayo Bowling and Meet the Coaches Party. New and returning swimmers enjoyed glow bowling, a taco bar, and a silent auction. Head Coach Jim Singelyn is returning for a second season to lead the Sailfish. Coach Jim has excelled in swimming through age group and into high school, where he was a four-time All-State and three-time All American, 12-time All Catholic, and 12-time All Macomb County. He continued his swimming career at the University of Kansas and then Eastern Michigan University. Assistant Coaches Elizabeth Bourke and Bill Thompson support Coach Jim. Coach Elizabeth started swimming at the age of four for the Country Club of Detroit and through high school at Grosse Pointe South. Coach Bill started swimming with the Grosse Pointe Park Mutants around the age of six. He also swam for Grosse Pointe South and then the University of Pennsylvania. He has been part of the coaching staff for the past 35 years in Grosse Pointe, including Pierce Middle School, Grosse Pointe South, and GPYC. Also returning this year is Nicole Sceglio. And joining the coaching staff are Brennan Rogowski and Genevieve Boutrous. Our first home swim meet is Tuesday, June 21, against Lochmoor. Come up and cheer on our Sailfish!

Sailing into Summer The GPYC Marine Activity Center would like to welcome back Christina Noland. Christina has over 8 years of coaching experience with GPYC and has recently returned this season after a short leave of absence. We are excited to have Christina as our "Tripple Threat" addition to the team: • GPYC Junior Sailing Director/Head Coach • Grosse Pointe South Sailing Head Coach • Mother to all kids on the water and at home Christina is highly dedicated and excited to be back out on the water coaching. We'll our end of the season has come to an amazing end. We finalize the season with the end of the year Team Club Championship. I am happy to report that the Thursday Night Mixed League was the overall champions. The Team consisted of Valentina Izzi – Marilyn Stephenson – Joe Schmitt – Ellen Starks, and John Seago. They will receive their awards at the annual awards banquet. Other award winners are; Most improved bowlers – Dianna Smith +10 pins and Scott Turnbull +16 pins Club High Average: Julie Granger 163 and Charles Molnar 230 Men's Club Champion: Scott Turnbull Ladies Club Champion: Barbara Alcorn Our 2022 Bowler of the year is awarded to Julie Storen. Julie bowls in the Thursday Morning Ladies league and has been bowling for the past 10 years. When Julie started bowling, she was a right-handed bowler averaging in the 90s. A few years ago, she came to me and said that she had arm trouble and could no longer bowl using her right arm. Determine to stay active, she said she wanted to try bowling left-handed. When she started, she was having trouble but stuck it out. This past season ended with an 81 average. Julie is well-deserving of this award. We will again have Friday Night Open Bowling during the 1st part of the summer. Starting June 3 and running for six weeks, members can purchase a lane for $240. Members are guaranteed a lane every Friday Night. If you would like to purchase a lane, email me at gwoods@gpyc.org. We also are still offering bowling parties during our summer months. This year, I want to welcome a new addition to our tennis staff in PTR Certified professional Jordan Andrews! Hello GPYC members, I am super excited to be transitioning into the Membership Director position, and summer at the perfect time! My knowledge and experience at the GPYC include two key management roles that have prepared me for this position. I pride myself on the relationships I have built with both members and staff, and I am eager to take the proverbial torch and run with it. As Membership Director, I look forward to meeting and contributing to the Club's success.

As we roll into beautiful weather at the Club and "get our feet wet" for an always busy summer season. I am excited for members, new and seasoned, to enjoy all the fun GPYC has to offer this summer. The In Harbor Rendezvous is an event you will not want to miss. Morning Bloody Mary's and Mimosas are always a member favorite and daytime and evening activities for the whole family, including the 1st of the season "Dive In" movie. Harbor Hours

The Harbor will be staffed from 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. until October every day. The Fuel Dock will be open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. every day. A La Carte Dinner Not Available on Event Days

A la carte dinner service will not be available on major GPYC event days. We will notify membership through The Weekly Buzz when dinner service is unavailable. For future reference, dinner service will be unavailable during these events: Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Fleet Review, Labor Day, Annual Meeting, Tree Lighting, Commodore’s Ball, Winter Blast, Easter, and Back to the Club.

Online Dining Reservations

You can now make reservations for our dining rooms through OpenTable! Simply visit our website or phone app, log in, and go to the “Reservations” tab. There, you will see an Open Table widget where you can select the day and time to dine with us. Parties of 9 or more in the Spinnaker or 11 or more in the Main Dining Room will need to call the Front Desk to make a reservation.

Have you or a member of your immediate family made a special accomplishment? Run a marathon, received a scholarship, traveled to an interesting place, or done charity work? We would love to feature you in the Member Snaps section of the Grosse Pointer. Our readers love to see what great things their fellow members are up to. The GPYC app is the best way to get the most up-to-date information about everything happening at the Club. Check out information about events, dining specials, Harbor postings and more. OpenTable is also available through our app to make dining reservations. To download the app, search Grosse Pointe Yacht Club in your app store, and login with your member ID and password.

Cancellation Policy

Members canceling a reservation for Clubsponsored functions with less than 24 hours’ notice or not attending the function without giving notice will be charged the established price for each person involved. Thank you. July 2022 MAST Deadline Submissions for THE MAST can be sent to Heather Shock at hshock@gpyc.org. The July MAST deadline is Monday, June 6.

She offers a variety of flavors (including gluten-free options), fillings, and icing. Cakes range in size from six inches to a full sheet. Standard wedding cakes are available in 3 or 5 tiers. SUMMER ATTIRE POLICY (Memorial Day – October 31)

The Main Dining Room / Binnacle Family casual; attire in keeping with the character of the Club in a casual environment is appropriate. Dress length shorts, denim, and modest athleisure wear are acceptable. Cut-offs are not allowed. Tee shirts are not permitted for adults. Denim may not be worn in dining areas for Sunday Brunch.
