Runners and Supporters Come Together Once Again to Help Others On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary Club will offer a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning with the 45th Annual Grosse Pointe Run. This event is Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary’s primary fundraiser. 100% of the money raised allows the Club to help those in need and provide college and trade school scholarships to high school students in our community and surrounding areas.

The Run is for everyone of any age! For the serious runners, the racecourse is USA Track & Field certified and uses a professionally managed chip system which automatically registers each runner’s finish time.

Participants just wanting to have fun and enjoy the surroundings can choose the One-Mile Fun Run or the 5K Leisure Walk. Sunrise Rotarians will be there to welcome you with a smile, snacks, and beverages at the Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park.

In 2024, we: • granted $27,500 in College Scholarships to 17 students in our community and surrounding areas • offered local support to Kids on the Go, One Voice, St. Charles Soup Kitchen, The Pope Francis Center, St. Vincent DePaul & Sarah Fisher Center, SOAR Detroit-Children’s Literacy Program, Full Circle, The Family Center, Gianna House, HART, and Peace Lutheran Church Food Pantry • supported Rotary Hurricane Ida Relief, Building Up, Vets Returning Home and the Rotary International Program to eradicate polio throughout the world.

75 Years of Patriotism, Culture, and Community

The year was 1949. Gas was about $0.27 a gallon, a new home could be purchased for less than $8,000, a new car sold for under $1,500, and on the shores of Lake St. Clair in Grosse Pointe Farms, a priceless community asset — the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Association — was established.

For three-quarters of a century, The War Memorial has proudly stood as a symbol of unity, celebrating the rich tapestry of our community and enhancing the lives of those who visit our campus. From honoring our veterans to providing educational and enriching activities, our mission has been to strengthen the bonds that tie our community together.

With new programming and innovative leadership, we strive to be a dynamic, forward-thinking hub for patriotism, culture, and connection for southeast Michigan. The War Memorial is a contemporary and inspired gathering place that anchors a healthy community on the shores of beautiful Lake St. Clair where art and music live, memories are made, and the community and its

Dedicated Scholarships an Exciting Initiative to Benefit Area Students A new opportunity was launched in 2021 to generate funding for college and trade scholarships for our area students. This is an ongoing fundraising effort throughout the year.

With a $2500 tax deductible donation, donors can dedicate a scholarship in their name and designate the scholarship be given to a student in one of the following schools: Grosse Pointe North High School, Grosse Pointe South High School, Harper Woods High School, University Liggett High School, DeLaSalle Collegiate High School, U of D Jesuit High School and Academy, Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Loyola Detroit High School or Regina High School. Donations in smaller amounts are also gratefully accepted.
