In 2018, then Commodore Sean Schotthoefer and Strategic Planning Chairman (and Past Commodore) Jim Morrow instituted the idea of an offsite retreat for the Board to discuss the Strategic Plan. This trip is completely funded by the Board Members themselves and the participation has been almost 100% every year since. The Strategic Plan is intended to be a document that guides the Board of Directors and Management through capital renovations, capital maintenance, as well as aspects of Club culture and current trends in society. It guards against any one Board, Manager, Committee going down the proverbial rabbit hole and keeps the Club on track to fulfill its mission of being one of the finest clubs in North America.

The 2021 Retreat took place in Charlevoix, Michigan and was based out of the newly built Earl Hotel, owned and operated by GPYC Member Paul Silva. The Meetings were led by newly appointed Strategic Planning Chairman (and Director) Rick Lueders. The Board worked on and completed the VISION 2026, a five year plan derived from the Strategic Plan and Member Feedback to improve the Clubhouse, Grounds, and Harbor. All projects within Vision 2026 are generously funded by member donations. If you’re interested in donating, please contact Jim DeMasse at jdemasse@gpyc.org.
The Board enjoyed great food paired with unique wines at Chandlers – a restaurant in downtown Petoskey.
