Headteachers’ Welcome It is a real pleasure to welcome you to Elizabeth Woodville School. Elizabeth Woodville is an inclusive comprehensive school with approximately 1100 students. Our school is located on two sites, Roade and Deanshanger. We operate as one school with staff working across both sites. There are many benefits to being on two sites, including access to excellent sporting facilities, a broad and balanced curriculum with a range of pathways to choose in Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 with passionate subject specialists and good quality staff. The most important benefit for our students is that each site has excellent pastoral systems, which means that all students are known, and no one becomes just a number. (Only our 6th form students travel between sites).

We are immensely proud of our inclusive ethos and of the positive relationships that we build with parents and the local community.

In addition, we encourage our students to participate in extra-curricular activities so that they develop a wide range of skills and experiences that they can apply both in and beyond school.

It is our belief that all students can achieve their potential and here at EWS we will support them in their journey to success.

Our ambition is to create an exciting and vibrant learning community for students on their seven year journey with us from Key Stage 3, through to Post 16. We want students to enjoy successes in and outside of the classroom.

At Elizabeth Woodville we have a strong focus on academic achievement throughout the school and develop our young people to be independent and resilient learners.

Our School & Values Our values are an integral part of our school and linked to the rewards system. We work with student voice across all year groups to develop meaningful and motivating rewards that are valued across the school.

We ensure that high standards are upheld throughout the Academy.

We expect our students to be smart, proud and confident. This means that they should be dressed in the correct uniform, worn in the correct way.

The uniform consists of a black EWS blazer, black trousers for all students, white shirt and an EWS tie. All of our uniform and PE kit can be obtained through local providers.

As a school, we are ‘team EWS’. We strive to learn and work together effectively. We set high expectations of staff and students alike and develop respect for each other so that every person feels valued.

Attendance and punctuality are central to organisation skills along with having the correct equipment everyday.

Tutor time begins at 8.40am and we expect students to be on site before the first bell at 8.35am.

Our student care and pastoral systems are exceptional. We have trained mental health leads and first aiders. We have support from our Ethos team who will guide students with 1:1 and group interventions building resilience, self esteem and confidence.

Curriculum Elizabeth Woodville School is committed to providing a curriculum that is broad, balanced, challenging and fosters a love of learning.

We match our curriculum to the abilities, interests and aspirations of our students, to give every child the opportunity to strive for personal excellence.

Throughout all key stages, we have a comprehensive personal development, social and health education programme which encompasses careers guidance as well as relationship and sex education.

At Key Stage 3 students study English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Religious Studies, French, Spanish, Music, Drama, Games, PHSE/Careers, IT, Art, Design Technology and Food.

At EWS, we provide children and young adults with a world of opportunity.

We guide students towards taking ownership of their futures as they make decisions about their curriculum.

Our Sixth Form is a vibrant, friendly and aspirational community, where we develop the whole pupil in preparation for life beyond the school.

The majority of subjects are taught in mixed ability classes; however, English and Maths will set students during Year 7. Setting is continually monitored and updated as required during the five years through KS3 and 4.

In Years 10 and 11, students study a core provision of English, Maths, combined Science (single sciences for some students) and Games.

A love of reading and the understanding of literacy are a vital component of the development of young people; therefore, in Years 7 and 8, we run the EWS reads programme in our tutor sessions and have our on site Library to develop these skills.

In addition to this, students choose options from a range of both traditionally academic subjects (e.g. History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages) alongside more vocational subjects such as Enterprise and Health and Social Care.

Students travel between the two campuses, which allows us to provide a range of Level 3 options both academic and vocational.

Students choose three subjects to study over the two-year course from option blocks, which not only take into consideration the choices of our student community, but also the requirements for further study.

Extra-Curricular and Enrichment Outside of formal lessons, we offer a range of enrichment opportunities for students to develop their skills and confidence as well as meet and work with other students and staff as they learn from new experiences.

Activities take place during lunchtimes and after school with the provision updated every half term so students can experience a wide range of activities.

Trips and experiences:

Research has shown that students who regularly participate in activities improve attainment of the subjects they study at Key Stage 3 and 4. Participation in an activity also has a positive influence on improved attitude to learning and impacts on attendance at school.

We offer sports, music, drama, languages, art, DT, homework club and Duke of Edinburgh to name a few.

EWS is equipt with extensive facilities to cater for all aspects of the P.E. curriculum. Both schools are blessed vast grounds, astro turf, dance studio, gymnasium and even a pool.

Pupils enjoy taking part in extra-curricular sports activities. One particular sport that pupils are enthusiastic about is water polo.

Pastoral Care Pastoral care at EWS offers extensive support, guidance and care for all students.

Each student at EWS is assigned to a Form Tutor whose priority is the general well-being of the students in their care.

Tutors are the first line of contact and support our students as they take a holistic approach to the progress of each young person in their group. On a regular basis tutors receive reports about the achievements of each student and they know their students well.

We strive to promote student’s personal development, academic success and overall wellbeing by providing a designated tutor, who students see every morning, a Head of Year and a passionate Pastoral team who work with students from Year 7 - 13.

At EWS, students receive support from the Ethos team, a dedicated group that helps with personal development.

All students at EWS have designated time to follow a clear career path program, which aims to provide knowledge and insight about their next steps.

At EWS, students in Year 10 and 12 participate in work experience and receive visits from external speakers to gain insight into the world of work.

Preparation for the future Students are motivated and encouraged to reach their greatest potential at EWS. They are supported and prepared to assume their role in society as responsible, compassionate, and knowledgeable citizens.

Careers education and guidance is integral to our personal development programme from Years 7 to 13.
