Touro Colleges in Europe
TOURO COLLEGE BERLIN
As one of the few select European institutions to confer degrees that are fully recognized in both Germany and the U.S., Touro College Berlin (TCB) attracts students from all over the world—the United States, Israel, Germany, the Middle East, Asia and Eastern Europe.
AREAS OF STUDY Undergraduate classes in psychology, business management and marketing are taught in English by award-winning faculty. TCB students are accepted into competitive graduate programs at highly respected universities in Europe and the U.S. The MBA program in general management offers advanced business education through interdisciplinary curricula and work-study programs, and graduates are highly sought after by multinational companies in Germany.
HOLOCAUST STUDIES The Lander Institute for Communication and Tolerance, established by Touro’s founder and first president, Dr. Bernard Lander, analyzes Holocaust history and examines the range of its consequences. The program is affiliated with the Free University of Berlin and students in the Holocaust studies bachelor’s program participate in field trips, study archives of original Nazi documents and visit memorial sites.
AWARD-WINNING ADMINISTRATORS, STUDENTS Executives and students alike are continually recognized for their extraordinary dedication and accomplishments. Sara Nachama, TCB’s vice president and rector, was awarded the “Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany” in recognition of her longtime commitment to education and Jewish life in Germany. The Deutschland Stipendium— “Germany Scholarship”—was recently awarded to three outstanding students for their academic achievements, exceptional social commitment and leadership skills.
LANDER INSTITUTE MOSCOW
Lander Institute Moscow affords students in Russia the opportunity to earn a degree and gain a well-rounded education, while strengthening their commitment to Jewish heritage and acquiring the knowledge to serve as qualified educators in Jewish secondary schools and organizations. This program is in partnership with the Federation of Jewish Communities.
Built on Touro’s mission to support Jewish continuity, in 1991 Touro became the first American institution of higher education to establish a program of Jewish studies in Moscow. One of the hallmark offerings is the Teachers Training Program. The program currently offers a variety of courses in Jewish studies, mathematics, computer science and other disciplines. Students may earn an accredited bachelor’s degree in Jewish studies, management/ marketing, digital and multimedia design or economics. Most students travel from Russia and other neighboring

countries to attend school in a Jewish environment and build their knowledge of Jewish history and tradition.
The Lander Institute campus is equipped with ample classrooms, staff and student facilities and a modern computer laboratory to support academic work, as well as a kosher dining room. The Institute’s hallmark is the atmosphere of warmth and collaboration. This friendly environment enables students to fully realize their potential and fulfill their deep commitment to Jewish tradition and heritage.
Carrie Toptan, M.S.
Autism Researcher
Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. When Carrie Toptan first laid eyes on Touro College Berlin, she was bedazzled by the 1930 Bauhaus building. What she discovered inside those walls was even more impressive: “Awesome professors, small classes, Touro is like a family!”
Toptan, now 28, graduated from Touro Berlin with both an American and German Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. “I’m from Berlin and having both degrees will give me more job opportunities and open the whole world.”
She was right. After leaving Touro, Toptan moved to the U.K., where she earned two Master of Science degrees from King’s College London, in clinical neurodevelopmental sciences and neuroimaging.
For both degrees, Toptan was part of EU-AIMS, the largest autism study in the world. Now she’s working on her Ph.D. in computing at the University of Portsmouth and is the only psychologist on the laboratory interdisciplinary team. “I am specializing in autism, which I’ve been fascinated with since I saw a documentary about it as a child. At Touro, I was excited by the topic even more because I learned the psychological aspects and about diagnostics and therapies.”
An only child, Toptan, who was elected as Touro Berlin’s student government president, is mulling a plan for her future. She hopes to become a professor, a researcher and work in a clinic setting with children who have autism. “I would love to come back to teach at Touro,” she says. “Back to my roots, back to the Touro family!”
