Lander College for Women

A center of academic excellence, Lander College for Women—The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School (LCW) is a magnet for young women from across the country and around the world who seek a rigorous academic program in a vibrant Torah-imbued environment. Just steps from Lincoln Center on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the location offers ample opportunity for students to take full advantage of New York City’s cultural offerings.
FOUNDATIONS OF ACADEMIC AND CAREER SUCCESS LCW’s student-focused faculty and career-oriented curriculum produce graduates who are prepared for success in the contemporary workplace and global economy. Exciting opportunities such as the annual Hackathon for computer science majors and the bioethics trip to Thailand for biology majors who are pre-med or pursuing the health sciences to expand students’ knowledge, skills and perspective. The innovative Career Service team helps match students with meaningful internships at top employers in the fields of finance, accounting, law, medicine, research and other academic disciplines. Graduates are accepted to the most competitive graduate and professional schools and hold corporate and communal leadership positions nationwide.
HONORS PROGRAM AND PATHWAYS TO CAREERS IN MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES
LCW’s Honors Program attracts students with superior academic abilities. At LCW, they pursue a rigorous curriculum and develop complex written, oral and
technological skills. Additionally, in collaboration with the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and The School of Health Sciences of Touro College, LCW and the other Lander Colleges introduced the Integrated Honors Tracks for students who have decided on careers as doctors of osteopathic medicine, physician assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists or speech-language pathologists.
The three Lander Colleges also partner with New York Medical College (NYMC), a member of the Touro University System, to create the Medical Honors Pathway which offers the opportunity for qualified applicants to continue their studies at NYMC after completing their undergraduate education.
This year, LCW expanded the partnership with The School of Health Sciences and launched the Nursing Pathway Program. Students who qualify can be accepted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program even before they begin LCW. Students take the nursing prerequisite courses at LCW and then transition seamlessly into the nursing program.
ADVOCATING FOR ISRAEL The Vera Greenblatt Israel Advocacy Scholars Program at the Lander College for Women is a new opportunity for LCW students who want to acquire the knowledge and direct skill set to be advocates for Israel. Established by Jason and Naomi Greenblatt and family, the program will enable a select cohort of students to gain real-world experience in advocacy, government and policy through meetings with key stakeholders, thought leadership, campus event planning and summer internships.
INTRODUCING LCW FLEX In response to changing needs of students in an ever-evolving world, LCW has launched a new program that enables students to complete their bachelor’s degrees in psychology, business management or computer science completely online. Classes are given on Zoom one day a week and the rest of the coursework is completed asynchronously—online and on the student’s own schedule. Students can join LCW from anywhere in the world, yet benefit from small classes, flexible schedules and mentoring from world-class faculty. Students can also pursue their degrees from Jerusalem with courses at Touro College Israel in Jerusalem and remotely through LCW in NY.
Tova Bram
Software Engineer, Facebook (Meta)
Tova Bram was always strong in math and science, excelled in high school sports and suffered zero fools. “I had three brothers and was small, so I had to be serious,” she says.
At college, she was ready to work hard. One major was not enough. Nor was one internship at a time. Bram headed toward a computer science degree and pursued finance as well. One of her professors urged her to incorporate finance into her career, and Bram became a member of the Economics Honor Society, made the Dean’s List and graduated with a computer science major and a finance minor.
One of her internships was at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, where she got to use her talents in both finance and software design and was hired full time upon graduation. She rose to senior software engineer. While there, she contracted a serious case of pneumonia. Her idea of resting was to teach herself all about e-commerce, so she founded LoveSylvester, which sold clothing and accessories. “I couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t breathe,” she explains, matter-of-factly, “so, I started a business.”
After four years at BlackRock, Bram received an offer from Facebook. She is a member of the Facebook Live Team, where users livestream events from a phone, computer or connected TV. Says Bram, “It’s a pretty cool job.”
Bram remains close with her finance professor. She speaks to students and works through her career network to offer internships and professional positions to Touro students and graduates. “Touro helped me reach my full potential,” she says. “I believe in paying it forward and helping other students, especially women, succeed in tech.”
