Hotel Del Coronado Coronado, CA The Hotel del Coronado has a wonderful history starting over 130 years ago - having hosted celebrities, royalty, U.S. Presidents, and beach-lovers; it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977 and is a famous icon of San Diego, CA. During a remodeling project last year, 74 of our Wilshire Collection rectangular planters were specified for three specific areas of the property including the famous hotel Sun Deck. Read more…

Wilshire Planter Collection The Wilshire Collection is our most popular planter with straight walls and a slight reveal. Put several of them together and it creates a highly effective way to configure space using live plants. The elegant straight lines disappear, emphasizing the plant, as it should be. Wilshire planters are also available as a Wilshire Screen Planter with the trellis system, which creates an upright privacy screen, privacy panel or wind screen that can be used to hide unsightly views. Available in FRP fiberglass, lightweight GFRC concrete, and steel in a huge range of sizes.

Metro Crossing Fremont, CA Metro Crossing in Fremont, CA, is a contemporary multiresidential community with luxurious condos. The focus of this project was to provide outdoor space and walkability, so people can take advantage of the Transit Oriented Development design. This successful project was based on a strong partnership and collaboration with the architect, knowing that we could manufacture their requests (Wilshire Weathering Steel Planters and custom laser-cut screens) and work within their budget. Wilshire Screens and Laser Cut Panels For our Wilshire Screen, combine our Wilshire Collection planter or Boulevard Collection planters and VertiGreen modular 3D trellis to create attractive, easy-to-install solutions for screening off unsightly views. Modera Rincon Hill San Francisco, CA Modera Rincon Hill apartments in the East Cut area of San Francisco is becoming one of SF’s most desirable places to live, with four expansive rooftop terraces viewing the Bay and downtown. For these terraces, over 90 of Tournesol’s Wilshire Collection rectangular steel and GRFC lightweight concrete planters were installed and contained matching sizes of CWM Modular Container Irrigation Systems. Wilshire Steel Collection Tournesol’s best-selling Wilshire planters feature fully welded corners and stud-welded bulkhead construction for durability and rigidity; fully engineered in 12 ga. material, designed to keep weight down and walls rigid. They are available in stunning, standard metal materials including weathering steel (Corten), a steel that rusts but maintains its structural strength, and powder-coated mild steel with a zinc-rich primer and stainless-steel base. All weathering steel planters have a rustic, untreated finish with drain holes pre-installed.

Power + Light Building Portland, OR The Power + Light Building in Portland, Oregon, is an Italian Renaissancestyle architectural structure built in 1928. Landscape architects created an outdoor roof deck space honoring the historic character while modernizing the functionality of the entire office building. Tournesol’s Wilshire Collection lightweight FRP fiberglass, rectangular planters were installed containing cast-in-accessory lighting pockets, enabling lighting for socially distanced evening gatherings or events. CWM Modular Container Irrigation Systems CWM Modular is a versatile self-watering system designed for use in any large planter, freestanding or otherwise. Reservoir modules are linked together and buried within the pot. The hand-filled reservoir utilizes Tournesol Sitework’s vacuumsensor system to precisely monitor the soil moisture in the container, giving plants exactly the amount of water needed. The CWM Modular provides optimal flexibility for use in virtually any shape planter, will not interfere with lighting or other electrical connections, and requires no plumbing.

Container Irrigation: Modular Style How Container Irrigation Works Connect as many as five modules together and plant in the pot to store incredible amounts of water and reduce maintenance. The CWM™ Modular System includes all parts required for installation, including the modules, connecting tubing, a drainage overflow adapter, and BioGuard root barrier. 1. The key to the system – A micro-porous sensor tube acts as a simple valve. It allows air to pass when the soil is dry, closes when soil is moist. 2. Reservoir modules are filled through a hole at the top of a fill pipe, which extends above the soil – the amount of water is dependent on the size and number of the modules. Water flows from the fill module to the others via a tube connecting them at the bottom. 3. Once the modules are full, the fill pipe is closed with a tamper-resistant stopper, which creates an airtight seal (and prevents curious fingers from removing it). 4. When the soil is moist (the plant has water), the sensor tube is closed, and a vacuum is created above the water, preventing it from flowing. The vacuum is shared by a tube connecting the tops of the modules. 5. When the soil dries, air is allowed through the sensor tube and breaks the vacuum. Water flows into the soil from holes in the bottom of each module, and wicks up into the soil like a sponge. 6. When the roots become moist, the sensor closes, and the vacuum is created – stopping the flow until the plant uses the water and the process starts again. 7. When it rains, excess water builds up in the bottom of the container. The modular system includes an overflow drain adapter to be glued in place over the drain hole. Excess water flows out, preventing oversaturation.

LaGuardia Airport Central Pocket Park New York, NY As part of the state-of-the-art renovation of LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B, in New York, NY, they wanted to create a natural environment - as if the airport patrons were in a park setting, inside the terminal. Inspired by Central Park in NY, a “Pocket Park” design created eight large custom planters formed by irregular sections of lightweight GFRC concrete. The 77 different discrete planter shapes in over 200 pieces, needed to be assembled onsite and then topped with unique curved backed and backless steel benches. Read more…
