Jergensen The April Dashboard shows the first full month of COVID-19 impact on the industry.

Bed Tax Collection – For the month of April 2020 collected in May 2020 was at $1M a (81%) decrease over the prior year. Budget for the month was $5.6M or 4% above last year. March Tax Exempt rental receipts of $2.1M, decreased (60%) from prior April.

The Total FYTD’20 collections were at $36.1M, lower than last fiscal year’s $41.9M by (14%) reflecting the first full impact of COVID-19 on the fiscal year. Total Fiscal Year 2020 Budgeted Growth at 4%, current projections estimate a (33%) decline in bed tax collections for the fiscal year. The Rooms sold for April were 88,858 or (77%) lower than the previous year. Rooms available for April 442,080 which is up 13%. Hotel Rooms active in the County, 14,736 with The Breakers, Boca Resort, Eat, BEN closed.

Occupancy for April 2020 was 20%, down (74%) over PY. Occupancy April 2019 was 76.9%. Occupancy April CYTD was 59.9%, down (26%) over past year. Average daily rate for April was at $135.34, (37%) lower than previous year, CYTD down (0.9%). The revenue/available room was at $27.14 lower by (84%) in April, CYTD decrease (27%).

Hotel Room sales in April decreased (87%) at $10.8M. Non-hotel room sales decreased (30%) at $4.1M. Non-Hotel Room Net Sales FY20 Year to Date decreased by (18%) at $504M. Non-Hotel Room Sales FY20 Year to Date increased by 16% at $84M. FYTD 2020 Taxable Revenues Fiscal Year decreased (14%) at $587M. Airport activities for the month of April, 23,842 passengers (97%) lower and estimated seat capacity was down (10%) over last year with 180,122 seats. Passenger rolling average went down (1.5%) 6,667,585 over last year.

Leisure & Hospitality Employment for April 51,300 decrease (45%) the same month 2019. Accommodations went down (42%). F & B was down (61%). Arts & Entertainment down (3%).

Mayer Requested that during future meetings a prediction of future tax collections be made based on latest occupancy information.

Jergensen Said he would be happy to include those projections next month.

Mayer Also asked for a comparison to other municipalities around the State.

Pesquera Reported that he would be happy to include that information.

Beebe Reported on PBI business. April was the lowest month in history regarding number of visitors. May looks a little better but not by much. The good news is that PBI has not lost any destinations and airlines have said they are looking forward to being back soon.

Even with this information a full recovery is not expected until 2023.

Boca Raton Bowl Funding Approval*

Bronstein Requested to reorder this discussion so the Board could discuss the financial checkpoint numbers before they discuss funding anything new.

Motion is made by Jim Bronstein to table Boca Bowl discussion until after the financial checkpoint report. Motion is seconded by Commissioner Christina Romelus, motion carries 7-0 with Davicka Thompson and John Tolbert absent.

NEW BUSINESS – DISCUSSION ITEMS A.

TDC- PBCCCC Expansion CSL Study John Kaatz- Receive & File*

Kaatz Presented the Convention Center study. This presentation was well received by the Board.

Dufresne Discussed insuring quality control if we begin to bring in local vendors to setup an operation, like a local brewery.

Anderson Explained that local vendors would be brought in by the Convention Centers Food & Beverage operations. Dave also reported that these kinds of operations have been very successful in other cities and help to drive the local economy.

Shoaf Asked about policies for small and minority businesses.

Baker The County has set goals to hire small/minority/women owned businesses and the Convention Center is trying to meet these goals.

McPhail Reported that he has worked closely with four small/minority/women owned business to become certified under the County system.

Shoaf Offered assistance with discussions involving the City of West Palm Beach when it comes to a partnership for funding a crossover pedestrian bridge.

She and Commissioner Berger will work on coordinating these discussions.

Motion was made to move this study to the Board of County Commissioners by Commissioner Christina Romelus and seconded by Commissioner Kelly Shoaf. Motion carries 7-0 with Davicka Thompson and John Tolbert absent.

TDC- Financial Audits of all Agencies Approved by Finance Committee* Receive and File

Motion is made to approve for receive and file the agency financial audits by Jim Bronstein and seconded by Commissioner Kelly Shoaf. Motion carries 7-0 with Davicka Thompson and John Tolbert absent.

C.

FY2021 Budget Checkpoint Update/Phase Discussion*- Glenn J.

Glenn Jergensen reported on the current state of bed taxes.

Mostad Commented that April was better than expected and predicts that the trend will continue through the summer, hopefully the year will not be as bleak as expected.

Jergensen Cautioned that summer tends to bring in high numbers of sport travelers as teams come to various competitions and they are all being cancelled for June and we will see about July.

Shoaf Also cautioned that a second wave of virus could hit.

Bronstein Asked Jim Mostad how far out he is booking. Jim Mostad responded that currently it is short term and a drive market especially with the tri-state area being shut down. Jeffrey Mayer reported they are seeing the same.

Romelus Asked what contingency plans are in place for the future. Glenn Jergensen explained the TDC three phased approach to marketing.

C.

Boca Raton Bowl Funding Approval*

-Glenn J.

Motion to Approve

Meeting resumed with the Boca Bowl presentation.

Shoaf Expressed concern that agreement still reflects pre-covid situation and maybe we should be more conservative and look at a streamlined budget if activities surrounding the bowl change.

Jergensen Explained that if the Bowl does not take place, we would not be paying anything.

Linley Stated that if the Bowl becomes a TV event only, with no spectators our two commercial spots are even more valuable. He also stated that based on discussions he has had; college football is planning to be back.

Mostad Believes the key to the Bowl’s success is getting it scheduled for the right date, which is before Christmas. He stated that between December 15 – 21, hotels are empty, and this event helps out a great deal.

Jergensen Suggested modifying the agreement to state the event must take place before Christmas.

Bronstein Commented that he is uncomfortable with the six-year contract given the economic uncertainties of the time.

Shoaf Proposed renegotiating a three-year agreement with a one-time, three-year renewal.

Board agreed to table to a future meeting.

D.

Marketing Recovery & Stimulus Process to the BCC*- Glenn J.

Bronstein It occurs to me that we pulled an extra $500,000 from Special Projects for stimulus at our last meeting, but we were trying to build this account up to help pay for the pedestrian bridge at the Convention Center. Should we rethink our stimulus allotment?

Baker Commented that she was nervous when the Board added the extra $500,000 to stimulus and that when the City of West Palm Beach is ready to build the bridge, we will have to be ready to move on this project.

Mayer Suggested moving forward with taking the originally proposed $1.5 million from Special Projects and revisit if needed the additional $500,000.

Dufresne I think we should prioritize the pedestrian bridge stating that we cannot guess as how much the bridge will cost. It will have to go out for bid and the cost will be determined by those numbers.

Mostad Thinks we need to keep the entire $2 million in marketing.

Pesquera Believes that if we put all we can into marketing now, maybe we can get occupancy back to 75% and we can make up the money taken from Special Projects.

Jergensen Explained that he must take a budget back to the BOCC. His plan is to hold back 18% of beach funding and deposit it into Special Projects for contingency. The rest of the stimulus will be divided by ordinance between agencies. This allows the agencies to move nimbly now and still leaves us the 18% of beach funding to be used as needs arise.

Jim Bronstein leaves at 10:50 am Motion is made to approve the plan to allow for the 18% hold back in Special Projects and the rest of the stimulus to be divided per ordinance between agencies by Jeffrey Mayer and seconded by Jim Mostad. Motion carries 6-0 with Davicka Thompson Jim Bronstein and John Tolbert absent.

Coffman Expressed concern as whether the TDC has the authority to utilize the money set aside for the beaches in this manner.

Jergensen Explained that the plan and recommendation to utilize the beach money will now be taken to the BOCC for approval.

Baker Stated that once approved by the BOCC a one-time amendment to the ordinance will have to be made.

SPORTS COMMISSION 1.

Two Minute Update- George Linley

Linley There were two made for TV events which took place in Palm Beach County, one was tennis the other golf and bowling is looking at a possible televised event.

The CDC has come out with guidelines for youth sport recovery.

First Responder Games people are in town doing site visits for a Fall event.

CONVENTION CENTER 1.

Spectra Venue Management a. Two Minute Update- Dave Anderson

Anderson Convention Center study is spot on, we need a hotel to grow.

Construction on the new Sky Room has begun in the courtyard area and is expected to be completed in September.

We should be GBAC (Global Biorisk Advisory Council) certified in sixty days.

Spectra Hospitality a.

Two Minute Update- Vincent McPhail

McPhail Reviewing policies for ways to maintain quality and hot food while maintaining social distancing. We are looking forward to having events return.

Mayer Asked if Dave A. knows his percentage of bookings for Q4? Dave responded that it is between 30-50%. But they look different. Events are looking to come back but with smaller numbers and a larger virtual footprint.

DISCOVER 1.

Two Minute Update- Jorge Pesquera

Pesquera We started last week with our phase 1 rollout and hope by the end of the month to begin with tv and radio ads and resident specials on our website.

We have launched the GBAC certification program and are working with our hotels to become certified. George Linley is working with the ballparks to have them certified.

We will be the first destination in Florida to have this certification throughout our industry.

We have completed five townhalls with our partners.

FILM & TV 1.

Two Minute Update- Chuck Elderd

Elderd Film and TV launched the first Facebook Watch Party on June 9, the next is June 16 and will focus on the Best 18 holes in Palm Beach County.

Destination America is airing a new show, Drive the Palm Beaches.

WXEL will air the Perfect Week in Sports on June 27 South Florida PBS will air Art Adventures on June 21.

New shows airing - the Sunset Lounge which highlights African American music in Palm Beach County and Muck City which highlights the rivalry between Glades Central and Pahokee High Schools.

Lawrence Amendments to the Category “B� grants have gone out.

We are working with our partners on recovery efforts and providing virtual programming.

Two Minute Update- Deb Drum

Drum Beach restoration continues and seven beaches have been completed.

Beach survey strike teams are out assessing the beaches pre-hurricanes.

We are halfway through turtle season.

We have a new natural area open at the Loxahatchee Slew, there is parking, trails, and a tower overlooking the marsh.

PUBLIC COMMENTS Dr. Mami Kishner Introduced herself, stating that she is a past TDC Board Member, and is currently a Film Commission Board Member and a longtime member of the tourism industry, having worked for the airline industry and is now in public relations and marketing.

She wants to thank the TDC Board for bringing the agencies together and how nice it is to see them working and cooperating with one another.

However, I am concerned with the lack of diversity shown in marketing materials. Most representations are only of white people, when every piece should show the diversity of our community. I am available to work with agencies if they like to ensure a diverse representation of people in our advertising and promoting how welcoming our community is for all.

Discover The Palm Beaches Monthly Activity Report June 2020

The following is a summary of TDC Performance measures for the month of June 2020. This report demonstrates trends relative to owned visitor digital footprint, advertising impressions, social media engagement, and booked room nights for the Month of June. We continue to be negatively affected by the COVID-19 crisis, particularly, with the recent increase in cases and negative publicity about FL. May 2020 Hotel Performance • Total supply totaled 16,973 for May. There were 12 hotels temporarily closed in April removing nearly 3,000 rooms out of inventory. In June, the Public Relations department issued three press releases, where two of which were distributed on the national newswire. These two press releases included the GBAC STAR Accreditation announcement and another announcing more than 70 deals at our destination hotels and attractions. The team secured 37 quality earned media opportunities to promote The Palm Beaches across print, broadcast and online news outlets, including articles in Conde Nast Traveler, Forbes, Travel Pulse, PCMA’s Convene, Meetings Today and the Palm Beach Post.

KEY INSIGHTS

Impressions have skyrocketed due to our boost strategy being back on.

We didn't post for the first week of June to support the BLM movement. Even though missing a week of posts can sometimes be detrimental to performance, we were able to recover with extremely engaging content for the rest of the month. While our IG engagement rate is slightly down, total engagements and impressions weren't effected.

The top performing image on Instagram was actually accompanied by copy launching our participation with GBAC - yay!

The Pride messaging and Rosemary Square tree engaged extremely well on Twitter - very exciting and noteworthy as we look to Pride Month messaging In 2021.

Love to see the Groups team featured as the most engaged Linkedin Post!

HIGHLIGHTS ADVERTISING The Cultural Council restarted a small portion of its paid advertising efforts in June by updating Google search ad copy with recovery messaging. This approach reaches those proactively searching for cultural destinations and activities in the area.

PR & SOCIAL MEDIA In June, the Council launched a "Virtual Arts & Culture in The Palm Beaches" Facebook Group in an effort to serve as a community resource for families looking for virtual arts experiences this summer. The Council continues to grow the group and encourage local cultural organization representatives to share virtual experiences.

On June 20, the Council launched its first ever free Virtual Summer Performing Arts Series as well as virtual summer exhibitions. This programming helps keep local creative professionals working through COVID-19 and provides them a platform for creativity and exposure to new audiences – while giving the public an opportunity to enjoy the arts from the comfort of home. As such, the Council is using its social platforms to highlight these performances and exhibitions, including special Facebook and Instagram Live interviews of each featured artist, special announcements, teaser content and more.

INDUSTRY RELATIONS Art Adventures of The Palm Beaches: The Cultural Council worked with the Film & Television Commission in promotion of the second episode of Art Adventures of The Palm Beaches, which premiered on South Florida PBS on June 21. This co-sponsored production highlighted 'eco-fashion' in The Palm Beaches with local artists and designers, and highlighted cultural destinations including Old School Square in Delray Beach. The two organizations will continue to regularly discuss upcoming episodes, with episode 3 being planned for FY2021.

The Perfect Place: Discover The Palm Beaches: The Council also promoted and actively participated in the Film & Television Commission’s Facebook Watch Party for The Palm Beaches TV on June 9.

Marketing Meeting of the Minds: The Council hosted this virtual meeting on June 18 for key central Palm Beach County government, non-profit, business and tourism leaders. The call focused on COVID-19 reopening updates and provided a forum to discuss partnership opportunities amongst the groups to further maximize recovery efforts.

HIGHLIGHTS Virtual Cultural Sector Marketing Meeting: On June 18, the Council organized a virtual meeting with cultural marketing leaders to provide an update on the Council’s COVID-19 recovery planning and provided a forum for cultural organizations to share feedback on tracking virtual audiences and advertising plans among other topics.

Participated in the Hospitality + Events Fight Back Coalition’s HEFB-20 Hackathon with events professionals from around the country as a lead-generation tactic. Tasked to develop a scalable public-private partnership that addressed COVID-19-related health and economic challenges; worked intensely with events professionals from Detroit, MI, Washington DC and Philadelphia, PA. Throughout the week, promoted the destination and captured contact info for 19 event planners.

Selected and engaged a musical soloist for a promotional video shoot in the courtyard of the Brazilian Court Hotel, called “Socially Distanced Naturally at the Brazilian Court Hotel.”

This video was presented as example of Cultural Concierge services during a “Discovering Unique Rewarding Experiences in The Palm Beaches” sales presentation for the incentives market.

Produced slides and presented cultural venues and services for events planners, an extended feature of “Servicing with Success with Discover The Palm Beaches.”

Gathered list of public art sites and cultural venues for walking map of the West Palm Beach Art & Entertainment and Convention Center district that the Council will produce later this summer.

Attended three meetings of the Boynton Beach Tourism Task Force; provided recommendations to build cultural tourism.

Subject: Planning for Sports Commission Events, June - November & Lost Business Reports _____________________________________________________________________________________ Event Portfolio (June 1 – November 30, 2020): Attached you will the list of Palm Beach County Sports Commission supported events for this summer into the upcoming fall (June 1 – November 30, 2020). Our Sports Commission has been focused on management and contingency planning of these events during the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 89 events, which would create nearly 105,000 hotel room nights, are scheduled during this timeframe.

However, a total of 33 of these events and 33,070 room nights have been canceled or relocated during this period. These cancelations and relocations were solely due to the pandemic. These 33 events were responsible for an estimated $23 million of visitor spending.

Lost Business Report, FY 20 (March - September 2020) The impact to sports tourism is more severe since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

Sports travel is the most vulnerable tourism product during this pandemic and 67 sports events, that belong under the patronage of our Sports Commission, were canceled, or relocated during FY 20. These 67 events were scheduled to take place from March through the end of September. The lost business in FY 20 amounts to 75,381 room nights and $59 million of visitor spending. Regrettably, this number will continue to grow.

Sports-Development Sports Development Executive Summary In FY 20, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission (PBCSC) is deploying an aggressive sales and sports development effort to grow the number of sports tourisms generating events taking place in The Palm Beaches. The PBCSC continues to cultivate relationships with event owners, as well as identify, solicit, secure and retain sports events to grow room night actualization. Below is a recap of sports development efforts that have taken place during the month of June in FY 20.

Event Bids & Development A primary mechanism for event solicitation is through the Event Bid and Development process. To recognize potential bid opportunities, the PBCSC will be at the forefront of the industry and engage with event owners.

Bid submission is a highly effective tool to recruit sporting events. Attached is a comprehensive list of the bids that have been submitted in FY 20, and below is a breakdown of the development efforts over the past month: 









Event Site Visits When trying to bring events to Palm Beach County, engaging event rights holders to conduct a site visit or familiarization tour is one of the most beneficial event development strategies. Site visits allow for an event owner to explore potential sports venues while experiencing Palm Beach County’s tourism assets, such as hotels, restaurants, and attractions. Attached is a comprehensive list of the site visits that have been conducted in FY 20, and below is a breakdown of site visits conducted over the past month:  

Esports Coming to palm beach county Misfits Gaming Group, one of the world’s leading esports companies, will consolidate its North American presence to a new, $1.3M headquarters in Boca Raton, FL. South Florida is an emerging market for the thriving esports industry, and gaming became one of the few growth opportunities during the pandemic.

Each esports game has its own professional league run similarly to a traditional sports league like the NFL. Misfits and other gaming groups buy regional franchises and assemble teams of professionals who make salaries of six figures or more to compete in regional and global playoffs. There are team trades, and there are even play-by-play personalities. As for the Misfits, its two Florida based teams are in the Call of Duty League, the Florida Mutineers, and the Overwatch League, the Florida Mayhem. The Florida Mutineers have currently won back to back Call of Duty championships, so they are considered one of the best Call of Duty teams in the world.

The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is working with Misfits Gaming Group to help promote esports not only nationally but in Palm Beach County. They are already working with FAU and Keiser University, which have esports programs in the universities, as well as looking to build grassroots initiatives with our local youth. Also, the Misfits will be a tremendous resource to host events in Palm Beach County, not only at their new facility, but at major venues like the Palm Beach County Convention Center and Kravis Center.

COVID-19 The Covid-19 outbreak has greatly impacted the sports/entertainment and tourism industry, as well as all business sectors. Nearly 30 sports events that were projected to generate over 40,000 room nights have been postponed for March through June. Starting a few weeks ago, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission has assisted the Tourist Development Council and Discover the Palm Beaches with understanding the full extent of the impact/closure on our local tourism partners including our hotels and sports venues. The information received of the impact of this outbreak on our community in a very short time frame was very shocking.

Over the past couple weeks, we have been in constant communication with our event partners with events coming up July through December to check-in and see how they are doing through all of this, as well as provide local information as they are looking to make decisions on possible postponement, etc.

Lastly, the Sports Development department has been full steam ahead as it looks to garner and generate new event opportunities for 2021 and beyond. For our 2020 events, much of the work of winning that business was completed 2 to 4 years ago, so it is imperative we continue to be aggressive on the new event front to help Palm Beach County recover from this epidemic.

PGA TOUR Champions have announced that the 2020 Boca Raton Championship will feature an expanded field of 81 players returning to The Old Course at Broken Sound the week of October 26 – November 1.

The Boca Raton Championship has been a staple of the South Florida golf scene since its inception in 2007. The 81-player field marks an increase from the tournament’s typical 78-player field. Due to the circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic, eight PGA TOUR Champions tournaments have been canceled from the original 27-tournament schedule. Several other events have been rescheduled to later in the calendar year. The PGA TOUR Champions will combine the 2020 and 2021 seasons and form a singular 2020-21 season.

The Boca Raton Championship will proceed as planned with spectators onsite; however, the tournament team will work closely with the PGA TOUR to monitor the COVID-19 situation and follow the recommendations of local and state authorities in order to determine the most appropriate on-site access. Further updates on fan attendance will be dependent on available protocols that could be implemented to ensure the health and well-being for all involved.

The Palm Beach County Sports Commission (PBCSC) has won the bid to host the inaugural Eye of the Hurricane, which is a national lacrosse tournament produced by Legendary Sports Group (LSG). The event will take place January 16-17 at Gardens North County District Park in Palm Beach Gardens.

The tournament will feature elite lacrosse clubs from across the country with over 80 teams expected to participate. The event is open to boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams, from fifth grade through high school, with more than 1,400 players and coaches and 3,800 spectators projected to attend. Over the two-day event, a coaches’ clinic will be held for local youth and high school lacrosse coaches.

The state-of-the-art Gardens North County District Park opened in summer 2019 on 82 acres of land in the immaculate and inviting city of Palm Beach Gardens. The site features 10 lighted Bermuda grass multipurpose fields and the award-winning Palm Beach Gardens Tennis & Pickleball Center, which contains 18 Har-Tru

“Some of the best tournaments in the country are hosted at destinations. Four South Florida organizations are partnering to provide much needed relief to a Palm Beach community hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020, The Orange Bowl Committee, 2021 CFPNCG Host Committee, McCraney Property Company, and Feeding South Florida, will come together to provide more than 700 meals to residents of the Belle Glade area.

“The Orange Bowl has always been responsive to the community’s needs, whether it be hurricane relief, park renovations or back to school supplies,” said Jeff E. Rubin, President and Chair of the Orange Bowl Committee, formed in 1935. “Charitable giving and community outreach, along with economic development are central to our mission.

We are pleased to play a small part in helping those in need throughout South Florida and are extremely grateful to Orange Bowl Committee Member Stephen McCraney, and McCraney Property Company for their generous support of this endeavor.”

Three top-10 Americans will compete, as Tennis Channel’s 2020 (Re)Open Tour returns live tennis to fans around the world. The star-studded tennis event follows TaylorMade Driving Relief, a charity golf event on Sunday, May 17 at Juno Beach’s Seminole Golf Club, as the second made-for-television sports program to take place in Palm Beach County in the last week.

The competition will follow enhanced safety precautions, with screening, cleaning and social distancing for everyone involved. The games are being held at a private court without spectators or public access, and contain only singles matches. Players will provide their own drinks and towels, and each will be given their own set of marked balls for use during the match.

“Sports will always serve as a beacon of hope in trying times and this premier tennis showcase is a great beacon for sports in our community,” said George Linley, PBCSC Executive Director. “We are excited to welcome the world’s best tennis players to The Palm Beaches and are supporting their efforts to take the right steps to ensure a safe return to live sports.”

Most recently, BBC Studios reached out to LMC to document the Center's nesting season activities during the two-month closure of South Florida's beaches. The project will examine how different species have been impacted during COVID-19 closures. “The documentary will highlight LMC's work to monitor and protect one of the most densely populated sea turtle nesting beaches in the world,” said Amanda Moore, LMC Senior Manager of Integrated Marketing & Partnerships.

Looking into the future, LMC is working with L.A. based filmmaker Marco Raggozino who was born and raised in West Palm Beach.

After working in the film industry and focusing on fantasy films, including Marvel films, Marco wanted to give back to his hometown, and places like LMC where he visited as a child. This year, Marco and LMC are working together to produce a feature-length Facility Entrance (Credit: LMC) documentary that underscores LMC and ocean conservation. ESPN FILMS SPECIAL IN DELRAY Delray Beach native Coco Gauff sat down with ESPN’s Chris Fowler for a one-hour special highlighting her explosive rise in the world of tennis. The interview was filmed at the Delray Beach Tennis Center Gauff at Wimbledon and is part of ESPN’s multi-platform initiative honoring women in sports. Gauff catapulted to tennis stardom last year after defeating five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams. The special, titled Coco Gauff: The Lines Are the Same, premiered June 22 on ESPN2. The one-hour feature was part of ESPN’s three-day programing celebrating 48-years since the passing of Title IX, a federal civil rights law that protects people from discrimination based on sex in educational programs.

In total, the cable sports network owned by Disney aired more than 125 hours of female-focused programming across ESPN2, ESPNU, ACC Network, SEC Network and Longhorn Network.

FOCUS ON FILM PROJECT (-) DOC INSPIRES Saul Mishkin came to the U.S. from Lima, Peru in 2006 as an adventurous child, which led to his entrepreneurial spirit as an adult. In 2017, Saul reached out to South Florida Media Group (SFMG) in Boynton Beach with an idea of telling his story while facing a new life challenge—a 50 mile, ultra-marathon to the Florida Keys with just five months to train.

Two years later, the documentary Project (-) was born.

According to Mishkin, “When you see a headstone, you see two dates, with only a little dash in between. That dash is really what that persons’ entire life consisted of. Project (-) is a reminder to live every day with a purpose and, to make [your] time on earth really count. APEX KEEPS THE CAMERAS ROLLIN’ Apex Productions out of West Palm Beach has continued to keep busy with a number of recent projects.

Andy Cope was one of the Directors of Photography for most of the Florida Dyna Yachts scenes included in the popular Netflix docuseries, Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich. The Apex team has also created a promotional video for Dyna Yachts 63’ yacht, and have been out using their drone to create video content for the City of West Palm Beach highlighting improvements on Spruce Avenue.

MORE SPOTLIGHT FOR PAHOKEE DOC As the Coronavirus pandemic has made festivals veer towards virtual content, Realscreen is partnering with filmmaker and executive producer Chuck Braverman and his Westdoc Online video series to bring his interviews with acclaimed documentarians and non-fiction content industry figures to its readership. PRO BOWLING BROADCASTS FROM THE PALM BEACHES Bowlero, a retro-inspired bowling alley and entertainment complex in Jupiter, hosted the first-ever PBA Strike Derby on June 6. FOX televised the event, which kicked off a series of games organized by the Professional Bowlers Association. All of the games throughout June and July will be televised from Bowlero, featuring some of the best players in the sport. The Association’s CEO Colie Edison is excited to bring back live sports to broadcast television and believes “this dynamic series of events will showcase the immense talent of our elite bowlers to a wide audience,” adding that the PBA looks forward to “welcoming new fans to the Professional Bowlers Association." In the meantime, regularly scheduled PBA Tour events that were postponed due to COVID-19 are being rescheduled for the fall and winter. Lake Worth resident Philip Paritsky has been photographing the east coast of America for over five decades. Paritsky worked as a professional photographer in the advertising world of Madison Paritsky Image Avenue. In recent years he’s returned to his original passion being a fine art photographer.

Paritsky loved the Kodachrome film that he used years ago when working in advertising in NYC. Kodak long since discontinued the film, but the results he gets on his iPhone evoke what he loved about Kodachrome. This summer, online viewers can guess for themselves which is which in his virtual exhibition Philip Paritsky: Kodachrome or iPhone?

The show is part of the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s free Virtual Summer Series, providing engaging and thoughtprovoking content to audiences from the safety of their homes.

Featured on the council’s Instagram Live and Facebook Live pages, the exhibition runs through July 18, and 14 photos span pictures he shot while in art school in the 1970s to images he captured just last year. Paritsky doesn’t identify whether the images are film or iPhone, preferring that viewers puzzle it out for themselves. “In many ways, the iPhone is better than film,” he said. The exhibition challenges young photographers to see it as an educational tool. For example, Paritsky took full advantage of his digital options with an iPhone photo taken on a dreary day in the country. At first glance, it looks like a picture of trees reflected in water at sunset. It’s actually an image of a tree farm.

“There was no color in the picture at all,” he said. “I added the color so it Paritsky Image looks like reflections in a lake.”

Production Activity Report For May 2020 Variance Explanations Percentage change variances of ± 10% in performance statistics are typically explained in this section.

However, due to the widespread impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the entertainment production industry, this page will serve as an overall update on data collection and reporting measures across multiple categories.

Following a rapid increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases and public awareness in the United States in mid-March, a massive social distancing effort effectively shut down production sets across the country.

Many of the locations that fall under the FTC’s One-Stop Permitting process closed to public access amidst Governor DeSantis’ Stay At Home order, which went into effect March 26, 2020. As businesses were urged to begin working remotely from home whenever possible, studio projects and on-location productions alike were either postponed or cancelled in the interest of prioritizing public health. The Stay At Home order was not lifted in Palm Beach County until May 11, at which point Phase One of Governor DeSantis’ reopening plan was enacted. While the FTC’s services have continued uninterrupted and permit requests have been accepted and reviewed on a case-by-case basis, State of Florida Executive Orders made on-location production all but impossible during half of March, the entire month of April, and half of May 2020. This impact will be reflected in year-to-date percentages through the end of the 2020 calendar year.

Prior to the outbreak, production in Palm Beach County was experiencing an increase year-over-year.

The total number of permits issued from January 1-March 15, 2020 (just before the shutdown) was 85, compared to 71 for January 1-March 15, 2019, a 19% increase.

The year-to-date production data through May 2020 correlates with nationwide trends in production business impacts as President Trump initiated the “30 Days to Slow the Spread” program on April 2, leading to Stay At Home orders across the nation. In order to report data as accurately as possible and reflect the full-scale effect on our Palm Beach County production community, direct contact was made with each entity included in the monthly Production Companies & Support Services section (via an industry-wide survey) for estimated percentage adjustments to their average monthly production days, employees, freelancers, hotel room nights and production revenue. As a result of these data collection efforts, percentage change variances of ± 10% are as follows: • • • •

June 2020 Project Status Report Department of Environmental Resources Management Tarpon Cove: Placement of sand from the Town of Palm Beach Marina expansion began in late May and is estimated to be 10% complete. This beneficially reused material will fill a dredge hole to create additional islands and seagrass and mangrove habitat.

LOXAHATCHEE SLOUGH OBSERVATION TOWER

Artificial Reef Deployment: The County deployed 645 tons of limestone boulders 1 mile south of the Lake Worth Inlet in 40 ft. of water. The boulders were placed near an existing reef comprised of reused concrete and mermaid statues. Each pile consists of 323 tons of limestone with approximately 10ft. of relief. The material and deployment was funded in part by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Artificial Reef Grant. These reefs provide great fish habitat and easy access for shallow-water dives.

Loxahatchee Slough Grand Opening: The latest public use facilities for the Loxahatchee Slough, Palm Beach County’s largest natural area (12,957 acres), have officially been opened. The entrance is located at 11855 Beeline Highway, 1.6 miles north of PGA Blvd in the City of Palm Beach Gardens. A 0.25 mile paved walking trail leads from the parking lot to an observation platform overlooking a wetland. Amenities include an educational kiosk, fishing pier, picnic tables, miles of natural surface hiking trails and an observation tower. The new facilities encourage passive activities like wildlife viewing and photography, which will protect historic native habitats and biological diversity by increasing environmental awareness.

Lake Worth Lagoon Volunteers: Half a dozen volunteers from the Lake Worth Waterkeeper group put in quite a bit of effort to clean up the shoreline along the Jewell-Steinhardt Cove Living Shoreline. They gathered over 200 lbs. of trash and debris, including a heavy piece of wood piling, and dismantled a makeshift shelter that had been built near the beach.

STORYWALK INSTALLATION

Mechanical Fuel Reduction: ERM has begun work at Royal Palm Beach Pines Natural Area to reduce the risk of wildfire activity and improve the health of the ecosystem by using mechanical equipment to clear vegetation. Less vegetation means that less fuel will be available to a wildfire, should one occur. With less fuel, fires burn at a lower intensity and for a shorter duration, making them more easily controllable. There’s a benefit to the ecosystem as well: clearing overgrown vegetation allows threatened Florida native species such as gopher tortoise, milkweed, rosemary, and pinweed to thrive.

Pondhawk StoryWalk Installation: ERM staff is working with the City of Boca Raton Recreation Services Department, Adopt-A-Natural-Area Adopter for Pondhawk Natural Area, to install 18 “StoryWalk” boards. Visitors to the Boca Raton Public Library and Pondhawk will be able to read the pages of a children’s storybook as they walk along the hiking trail. This fun, educational activity provides a way to help build children’s interest in reading while encouraging a healthy activity for all.

OYSTERCATCHER BANDING

Banding American Oystercatchers: Four Lake Worth Lagoon restoration projects provided nesting habitat for state-designated threatened American oystercatchers this season: Snook Islands Natural Area, Bryant Park Islands, Grassy Flats, and Tarpon Cove Islands. Of the four nests observed, three eggs successfully hatched.

In partnership with FWC, all three chicks received identification bands, which allow biologists to better manage the species by documenting sightings of individuals.

Marketing Plan: In order to promote the First Responder Games, direct mailings and an e-marketing campaign will be targeted to many, if not all, police and fire departments in the country. The First Responder Games, Inc., also maintains a large database of firefighters that routinely participated in the Florida Firefighter Games, as well as those national organizations that have participated in the First Responder Games.

The First Responder Games has also taken over the databases from the Florida Police and Fire Games, significantly increasing the direct marketing opportunities.

About First Responder Sports, Inc.: First Responder Sports, Inc. promotes several events for the professional firefighters and first responding personnel. The First Responders Games is their primary national event, which offers a multisport event festival for police, fire, military, federal agents, EMTs, paramedics, and others that serve and protect the United States.

First Responder Sports has taken over many of the assets of the United States Firefighter Games and Florida Police and Fire Games, which trace back more than 30 years and attracted nearly 5,000 participants. Due to this partnership and the loss of the Florida Police and Fire Games, the First Responder Games have grown significantly since their inaugural event, which took place in Tampa during the summer of 2012. Between USFFG’s history hosting the National and Florida Firefighter Games, and the partnership with the Florida Police and Fire Games (formerly the Florida Law Games and originally the Police Olympics), the First Responder Games has continued to grow into the premier national event for our nation’s heroes.

Perfect Game World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) World Championship Weekend Over 3,000 athletes participating on more than 150 elite travel baseball teams will visit Palm Beach County to compete in one of the most competitive high school age baseball tournaments in the world. Perfect Game World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) World Championship Weekend will be returning for the 19th time in 20 years. This event, which has experienced tremendous growth in team and player participation, is conducted under Perfect Game USA and will take place at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, FL, FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, and the Santaluces Athletic Complex in Lake Worth from October 8-12, 2020.

The Perfect Game WWBA World Championship is known simply as “Jupiter” amongst the amateur baseball community, and provides a showcase for more than 2,000 prospects (88 teams) while they perform in front of nearly 1,000 professional scouts and college recruiters over the course of five days.

The Perfect Game WWBA Freshman World Championship is another event held simultaneously featuring more than 1,000 athletes (70 teams) of 14u travel teams. By combining the two events on one weekend, Perfect Game can benefit from operational efficiencies, and players get the opportunity to be scouted at one time. This even was relocated to The Palm Beaches in 2017.

Perfect Game USA is the largest amateur baseball scouting service, hosting more than 100 showcases and tournaments each year. Perfect Game attracts the most talented amateur players in the nation and the proof is in the results. A total of 10,228 of Perfect Game’s alumni have been selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft since 2003. The number of MLB draft picks for Perfect Game leads all other baseball organizations.

teams and nearly 600 athletes from across the nation. This is an invitation-only tournament allowing only wood bat play. Each team is guaranteed 4 games. Only a single champion will be crowned.

Unlike, the Perfect Game WWBA World Championship and Freshman World Series, this tournament will not attract professional and collegiate scouts. The third week of October is a “dead period” for recruiting.

However, Perfect Game will use this weekend to crown world champion in this rising age group.

The Perfect 14U World Championship will feature over 1,500 visitors, which includes players, coaches, and spectators. The event is expected to generate approximately 1,100 hotel room nights and $770,000 of economic impact. Combined with

Event History: The inaugural Perfect Game 14U World Championship was held in The Palm Beaches in 2019. This event generated 890 room nights. In addition to this event, Perfect Game annually hosts their Perfect Game WWBA World Championships and Freshman World Championships in October, which draw more than 6,000 room nights per year.

Marketing & Media: Perfect Game’s reputation as a baseball scouting service is unsurpassed. The Perfect Game WWBA World Championships and Freshman World Series will receive significant media exposure in baseball publications, especially the renowned “Baseball America” and “Baseball Weekly”.
